MLB Pick Of The Day – Chicago White Sox @ Minnesota Twins – Look At The Totals

Wednesday, September 24th, 2008
FiveStarPick.com is hot on the run total in tonight’s game between the Chicago White Sox and the Minnesota Twins.  The White Sox are trying to widen the gap between the 2nd place Twins in the AL Central, but the Twins have had the Sox’s number recently going 8-1 in thier last 9 outings.

Chicago (86-70) and Minnesota (85-72) have been battling for 1st place in the AL Central all season long and this three game series could determine the division champion.  Minnesota, seeking its fifth division title in seven years, is coming home after a 10 game road trip in which they finished 4-6.

Mark Buehrle (14-11, 3.87 ERA) will get the start tonight for the Sox.  In his last 9 starts, Buehrle is 6-1 with a 3.36 ERA. In his last outing against the Royals, he gave up 3 runs on 6 hits and got his 14th victory of the year.  Buehrle is 21-12 with a 3.85 ERA in 36 career games against the Twins.

Nick Blackburn (10-10, 4.15 ERA) will get the nod for the Twins.  The right-hander is coming off two terrible outings posting a 20.25 ERA in his last two starts. In his last start against the Rays he was ripped for 6 runs on 6 hits in 1 and a third innings.  The Twins eventually lost to Tampa Bay in that outing 11-1.

MLB Pick Of The Day – Marlins @ Nationals – Who Covers The Spread

Tuesday, September 23rd, 2008
The Florida Marlins are starting to worry about their chances of making playoff run.  After losing the last 2 games of their 3-game weekend, their chances of capturing the wild card got a little harder.  And after losing their makeup game against the Reds on Monday, it’s become nearly impossible.

If there is a silver lining in this it’s that the Marlins get to play the Nationals over the next 3 games who are nearing their 100th loss of the season.  On September 9th, Florida (81-75) was 10 games out of the wild card.  The Marlins then won 9 straight to pull within 4.5 games of the Phillies. The Marlins went to Philadelphia and lost 2 of 3…not good.  Philadelphia’s wins vaulted them ahead of New York in the NL East and brought the Brewers and the Astros further into the chase.

The Marlins start a 3-game series against the league-worst Nationals (58-98) tonight before heading to take on the Mets for their final 3 regular-season games at Shea Stadium.  As bad as Washington has been this season, they have been their worst against the Marlins.  They are 2-13 against the Marlins this year and have been outscored 47-21 at Nationals Park.

Scott Olsen (8-10, 4.20 ERA) will get the start for Florida tonight.  Olsen has won his last 2 starts after going 0-6 with a 5.74 ERA in his last 9 outings.  Olsen is 3-0 with a 3.04 ERA in 4 starts against Washington this season.

Rookie Shairon Martis (0-3, 6.23) will get the start tonight for the Nationals. Martis gave up 6 runs in 3 innings Wednesday losing to the Mets 9-7.

So who covers the spread in tonight’s game?  It’s real easy to get the answer.  At www.fivestarpick.com you can monitor our daily plays from our homepage and see for yourself if our talent for picking MLB winners exceeds your expectations.  MLB picks are not easy, but FiveStarPick.com’s proprietary sports handicapping software program coupled with two of the top sports handicappers in the business have proven a winning combination at nearly 65% against the spread.  You owe it to yourself to become a member of our family.  Join today and start winning tonight.

NFL Monday Night Football Pick Of The Day – Jets @ Chargers – Who Covers The Spread

Monday, September 22nd, 2008

Are you ready for some football…a Monday Night Party…man we hate that song.  But we love Monday Night Football.  FiveStarPick.com is giving its members the game and the total in tonight’s matchup between the New York Jets and the San Diego Chargers.

San Diego is in must-win mode after back-to-back losses to Carolina and Denver, each on the last play of the game.  Not to mention, who knows if this is the last MNF game for Brett Favre who seems to thrive in front of a nationally televised audience.

Las Vegas Sportsbooks have San Diego as a 9.5-point home favorite over New York, with the total set at 44.  New York (1-1 SU, 1-1 ATS) lost to New England 19-10 as a 1-point home favorite. The combined 29 points failed to exceed the 37-point closing total.  The under is 2-0 in the last two Jets games.  In the Jets last outing, Brett Favre went 18-26 for 181 yards with 1 TD and 1 INT. RB Thomas Jones ran for 70 yards on 18 carries, while WR Laveranues Coles caught 3 passes for 72 yards.

San Diego (0-2 SU, 0-1 ATS) lost to Denver last week as a 1-point road dog, 39-38. The combined 77 points cashed over bettors as the total went way over 46 points.  San Diego’s totals are now a perfect 2-0.  Against the Broncos, Starting QB Philip Rivers went 21-33 for 377 yards, 3 TDs and an 1 INT.  WR Chris Chambers caught 4 passes for 83 yards and 2 TDs. RB LaDainian Tomlinson had 10 carries for 26 yards. (Not normal LT form)

Here are some interesting trends…The road team has won straight up in each of the last 3 games between New York and San Diego.  In those 3 games, the Jets have gone 2-1 SU and 3-0 ATS.  The Jets won in overtime back in the 2005 post-season as a 7-point road dog, 20-17.  New York lost as a 6.5-point home dog, 31-26 during the 2005 regual season. The over has gone 2-1 in their last three outings.

NFL Pick Of The Day – Steelers @ Eagles – Who Covers The Spread

Saturday, September 20th, 2008

It’s any given Sunday in the NFL and FiveStarPick.com has been crunching stats, trends and injury reports since last Monday night.  The pros at FiveStarPick.com formulate their own point spreads and we believe there are 4 games today that Vegas has dead wrong.  The focus of our preview today is the Sunday afternoon game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Eagles now have a healthy Donovan McNabb and their offense is firing on all cylinders. The Pittsburgh Steelers, on the other hand, are hoping Ben Roethlisberger will even be able to play.  In addition, the Steelers haven’t won on the road in Philadelphia in 43 years.

In 2008, McNabb has had incredible numbers.  He is 46-70 for 642 yards, 4 TDs, 0 INTs and has a passer rating of 114.  He threw for 281 yards and a TD Monday night at Dallas, but a crucial turnover led to a Cowboys touchdown and a 41-37 loss.

Rookie WR DeSean Jackson had 6 catches for 106 yards against the Rams, then had 6 more catches for 110 yards against Dallas.  Jackson could have had a touchdown if he hadn’t acted like such a punk and dropped the ball at the 1 yard line during a premature end-zone celebration.  Dude…  Despite the rookie mistake, McNabb feels confident that he has a new weapon in DeSean.

College Football Pick Of The Day – Georgia @ Arizona State – Who Covers The Spread

Saturday, September 20th, 2008

It’s Saturday again and FiveStarPick.com has been studying college football stats and trends all week.  The focus of our preview today is tonight’s matchup between the Georgia Bulldogs and the Arizona State Sun Devils. Georgia opened the season as the #1 team in the nation, but has dropped a few spots in the polls. Arizona State was a top 20 team until last weekend’s uncanny loss to UNLV, but a victory tonight could change that.

Vegas Sportsbooks have Georgia as a 6 ½-point road favorite over Arizona State and the total is set at 50. Georgia (3-0 SU, 0-1 ATS) played its first lined game of the year beating South Carolina as a 7 ½-point road favorite 14-7. The two teams only scored a combined 21 points which was well under the 45-point closing total.

The Bulldogs produced only 252 yards of total offense against the Gamecock defense and QB Matthew Stafford was 15-25 for 146 yards. WR AJ Green caught 3 passes for 61 yards. RB Knowshon Moreno managed only 79 yards on 20 carries and one TD.

Arizona State (2-1 SU, 1-1 ATS) was upset by UNLV 23-20 in overtime last weekend as a 24-point home favorite.  The Sun Devils had a 10-point lead in the fourth quarter, but lost the game when a 35-yard field-goal attempt was blocked.  QB Rudy Carpenter went 13-23 for 242 yards with 2 TDs and an interception, while WR Kyle Williams was the main playmaker with 3 receptions for 115 yards and a TD.

Saturday’s forecast for Tempe, Arizona is sunny with a high of 100 degrees.
