College Football Pick Of The Day – Baylor Bears @ UConn Huskies – Who Covers The Spread

Friday, September 19th, 2008

As Johnny Gill says, “It’s Friday night and I just got paid” and FiveStarPick.com is looking to get all of its members paid tonight.  Baylor (2-1 SU, 1-1 ATS) is listed as a 12 point dog against UConn tonight and money line bettors should find the line at +380 (risk $100 to win $380.)  UConn (3-0 SU, 1-1 ATS) will try to keep its perfect season together as a -480 home money line favorite (risk $480 to win $100.)

After getting stomped by Wake Forest in their home opener as a 12-point dog, Baylor has won back-to-back games against Northwestern St. (51-6) and Washington St. (45-17) as a 6-point home favorite. Their last two wins had a lot to do with true freshman quarterback Robert Griffin. Griffin was a 4-star recruit from Copperas Cove, TX., has been given the nod as the future of Baylor Bear football.

In Griffin’s second start last week against Washington State, he ran for a school-record 217 yards and 2 TDs on 11 carries. Griffin threw for 129 yards, 1 TD and had no interceptions. The Bears finished with 555 yards of total offense and scored 40 points in two consecutive games for the first time since 1994.  Griffin has completed 62.3 percent of his passes for 548 yards with a 4-0 touchdown to interception ratio.

Connecticut last week crushed Virginia (45-10) as an 11-point home favorite. RB Don Brown paced rushed for 206 yards and 3 TDs; Tyler Lorenzen went 13-15 for 129 yards with 1 TD and no interceptions.

Since 2003, the Huskies have been solid as a double-digit favorite going 9-4 against the spread. Since 2002, the Huskies are 14-7-1 ATS as a home chaulk.  Baylor on the other hand is 3-11 against the spread as a double-digit underdog since 2006.

College Football Pick Of The Day – West Virginia @ Colorado – Who Covers The Spread

Thursday, September 18th, 2008

FiveStarPick.com is hot on another Thursday night college football game.  Tonight’s ESPN action features a powerhouse on the road against a fiesty, scrappy, gnat of a football team.  West Virginia (1-1 SU, 0-1 ATS) will travel a few thousand miles on the ground and a mile in the air to play the Big 12’s Colorado (2-0 SU, 1-0 ATS.)

This is coach Dan Hawkins’ 3rd year in Boulder and things seem to be shaping up for the Buffaloes.  Hawkins arrived on the scene after doing an incredible job at Boise State where he took it to old Bob Stoops and Oklahoma in one of the best college football games ever played.

This year the Buffaloes are off to a perfect 2-0 start, but it hasn’t been easy getting there. In the Buffaloes last outing they faced Division 1-AA Eastern Washington.  They were down 21-7 at the half, but Hawkins and his son, starting QB Cody Hawkins, got the offense moving and the Buffaloes rallied to a 31-24 win. Colorado cannot afford a slow start this week against West Virginia and QB Heisman candidate Pat White.

Most handicappers assumed the Mountaineers would continue their winning ways after beating Oklahoma in last year’s Fiesta Bowl, but Coach Stewart has been trying to change his former boss’ game plan a bit going to more of a pro-style offense. That all seemed like a good idea after WVA crushed Villanova in week one and White threw 5 touchdown passes in a 48-21 route. Then East Carolina (a really good football team) kept the Mountaineers from scoring a touchdown the entire game.  East Carolina coasted to a 24-3 win and the Mountaineers went back to the drawing board.

So who covers the spread in tonight’s game?  Look no further for the answer.  FiveStarPick.com loves to handicap college football.  It is our specialty and we have been steadily getting more proficient every year since we got into the business in 1990.  Was that really 18 years ago?  Time flies when you’re making money.  Our membership has jumped from 600 off-season members to over 1900 this football season and it’s for one reason and one reason only…we win!  We are the most accurate sports handicapping service on the net and we will never give you a play that we are not heavily on ourselves.  As a matter of fact, our NFL Picks are so strong that they can move the line up to a full point within seconds of being published to our members.  It’s time to come down off the fence and join for 1 year.  A one year membership is only $99.00 and it will pay for itself in the 1st week.  We are nearly 65% against the spread in 2008 and our forte, College and NFL Football Picks, are just beginning.  You owe it to yourself to discover the benefits of membership.  Join today and start winning tonight.

College Football Pick Of The Day – Kansas State @ Louisville – Who Covers The Spread

Wednesday, September 17th, 2008

FiveStarPick.com has handicapped tonight’s matchup between the Kansas State Wildcats and the Louisville Cardinals and we feel strongly about advising our members to bet on the total.  Vegas sportsbooks have listed the Wildcats as 4-point favorites with the total set at 56.  The action will start on ESPN 2 tonight at 8pm.

Kansas State (2-0 SU, 1-0 ATS) blew out Montana State 69-10 and North Texas 45-6.  In addition, Kansas State has had 11 days to prepare for Louisville (1-1 SU, 0-1 ATS.)  K-State’s QB, Josh Freeman, has looked very poised in his two wins. His 209.3 pass efficiency rating is the best of any QB in the Big 12. Freeman will have to establish the running game with Keithen Valentine tonight if he wants to continue to post rediculous numbers in the passing game.  Having said all of that, turnovers will be the key in tonights game.  The Wildcats produced 4 turnovers against Montana State, including a fumble return for a touchdown.

The Lousiville Cardinals are rebuilding.  After a terrible loss to rival Kentucky to start the season, the Cardinals came back strong with a 51-10 rout of Tennessee Tech last week. Louisville knows that Kansas State will be a much tougher test on both sides of the ball.  Louisville also knows that turnovers will be the key to their chance to win.  The Cards turned the ball over 5 times against Kentucky in their opening game loss.  QB Hunter Cantwell went 15-23 for 203 yards and 2 TDs for the Cards last week.  Running Back Victor Anderson needs a big game tonight. He carried 12 times for 114 yards and one TD last week.

MLB Pick Of The Day – Astros @ Marlins – Who Covers The Spread

Tuesday, September 16th, 2008

FiveStarPick.com is looking hard at tonight’s matchup between the Houston Astros and the Florida Marlins.  Hurricane Ike forced the relocation of their last two games from Chicago to Milwaukee, both of which were lacluster to say the least.  Houston got no-hit by Carlos Zambrano in the opener and lost 5-0, then lost 6-1 on Monday.

The Astros hope to right the ship as hurler Roy Oswalt tries to extend his scoreless innings streak tonight at Dolphin Stadium.  The Astros (80-69) have won 34 of their last 46 games, including 14 of 15 as of last weekend.

Roy Oswalt (15-9, 3.54 ERA) will take the mound tonight for the Stros. The right-hander, who has lasted at least 8 innings in 5 of his last 6 starts, hasn’t allowed a run in 32.33 innings.  Oswalt is 5-3 with a 2.85 ERA in 10 career starts against the Marlins.

The Marlins (77-72) have been on a roller coaster ride most of the second half of the season, but they are still only 5.5 games back in the wild-card race.  Chris Volstad (4-3, 3.31 ERA) will get the start for the Marlins.  In his last outing, the rookie allowed 1 run in 3 innings for a 10-8 win over Philadelphia.  He was hit in the shoulder with a ground ball up the middle and left the game. He has never faced Houston.

So who covers the spread in tonight’s game?  It’s real easy to get the answer.  At www.fivestarpick.com you can monitor our daily plays from our homepage and see for yourself if our talent for picking MLB winners exceeds your expectations.  MLB picks are not easy, but FiveStarPick.com’s proprietary sports handicapping software program coupled with two of the top sports handicappers in the business have proven a winning combination at nearly 65% against the spread.  You owe it to yourself to become a member of our family.  Join today and start winning tonight.

NFL Monday Night Football Pick Of The Day – Eagles @ Cowboys – Who Covers The Spread

Monday, September 15th, 2008

It’s Week 2 in the NFL and everyone is looking forward to the Monday Night Football matchup between two of the NFL’s top teams.  Both the Eagles and the Cowboys are coming off lopsided wins in Week 1, and with all the T.O./Donovan drama leading up to this game, “you betta get yo popcone ready cuz its gonna be sho.”

Las Vegas sportsbooks have opened Dallas (1-0 straight up, 1-0 against the spread) as a 7-point favorite with the total set at 47.5. Philadelphia (1-0 straight up, 1-0 against the spread) crushed the Rams last week 38-3 as a 9-point favorite. Donovan McNabb completed 21-of-33 passes for 361 yards, 3 TDs and 0 INTs. Desean Jackson had 6 catches for 106 yards and Greg Lewis had 5 catches for 104 yards. Hank Baskett had 2 catches that totaled 102 yards, including a 90-yard TD catch in the 2nd Quarter.

In Dallas’ opener, they manhandled Cleveland 28-10 as a 6.5-point favorite. Tony Romo threw for 321 yards and 1 TD; a 35-yard TD pass to Terrell Owens.  Owens had 5 catches for 87 yards, TE Jason Witten had 6 catches for 96 yards and WR Patrick Crayton snagged 6 catches for 82 yards. RB Marion Barber rushed for 80 yards and 2 TDs, while the rookie Felix Jones ran for 62 yards and 1 TD on 9 carries.

Philadelphia was the quintessential road underdog last season, cashing in all 4 outings. The Eagles won 3 of those games outright only losing to the Patriots in a 31-28 Sunday night nail-biter.
