NFL Pick Of The Day – Falcons @ Chargers – Who Covers The Spread

Sunday, November 30th, 2008

Las Vegas sportsbooks opened San Diego (4-7 straight up, 4-6-1 against the spread) as a 4-point favorite with the total set at 48. As of early this morning, the Chargers were 4.5 at most books with the total adjusted to 49.

Atlanta (7-4 straight up, 7-4 against the spread) is off one of its best performances of the season, crushing Carolina 45-28 to stay in the NFC South race. The Falcons took the cash as 1-point home favorites, while the 73 combined points went way over the 41-point total. Michael Turner ran for 117 yards and 4-TDs.  Atlanta rookie wide receiver Harry Douglas scored the first two TDs of his career against the Panthers.  Douglas also had four receptions for 92 yards.

Michael Turner has escaped the shadow of LaDainian Tomlinson after signing with the Falcons as a free agent in the off-season. The former Charger has rushed for 1,088 yards and 13 touchdowns, averaging 4.3 yards per carry. As for Tomlinson, his production is down this year.  LT has 770 rushing yards and five TDs, averaging just 3.8 YPC.

San Diego has lost back-to-back games and four of its last five. Nevertheless, the Chargers still have plenty of hope as they trail the AFC West-leading Broncos by just two games. They will meet in San Diego in the regular-season finale for both squads.

Atlanta quarterback Matt Ryan appears to be on his way to earning Rookie of the Year honors. The Boston College product has demonstrated steady improvement on a weekly basis, prompting some to suggest he might be the best rookie QB in NFL history. Ryan has an 11/6 touchdown-interception ratio for the season, but he has only been picked off once in the last four games. He has 220 passing yards or more in each of the last six games.  San Diego QB Philip Rivers has completed 65.8 percent of his passes for 2,801 yards with a 23/10 TD-INT ratio.

So who covers the spread in today’s game?  This game is way too close to call.  But why not let FiveStarPick.com help you make money on other games in the NFL today?  Aren’t you tired of getting cold called by services that tell you about their 750,000 star play that’s a guaranteed winner. Here is a bit of advice…NOTHING is guaranteed when you are betting on sports.  These so called “handicappers” call 500 people on a Saturday morning and give them all a free play; 250 people will get the Chargers -4.5 and 250 will get the Falcons +4.5.  After the game ends, they call back the 250 people who won and pitch them on charging thousands of dollars to their credit cards for more guaranteed winners.   We are not your typical sports handicapping service.  We care about our members and we live and die on every play. Why?  Because we are moving thousands of dollars of our own money on the same plays we give you. Gambling on sports is how we make our living.  Do we win every play?  Absolutely not and we will never pretend to.  Our plays are always posted for all to see, including our losing streaks. But by the end of the year we always seem to have a few hundred thousand dollars of the sportsbook’s money in our casino account.  Let us try and do the same for you.  Join our family of winners today and start your winning streak tonight.

NFL Pick Of The Day – Seahawks @ Cowboys – Who Covers The Spread

Thursday, November 27th, 2008

Happy Thanksgiving to all our members and guests.  Even though many of us are suffering from one of the worst economic downturns on record, we all still have much to be thankful for.  One of the things we are most thankful for is football on TV all day long.  FiveStarPick.com is back on another hot streak winning 6 of our last 7 and we are excited about our two member plays today.  The first of which pairs the Seattle Seahawks with the Dallas Cowboys.  Las Vegas sportsbooks list the Cowboys as 12-point home favorites with the total set at 47.

Dallas (7-4 Straight Up, 5-6 Against The Spread) is an icon on Thanksgiving Day.  In addition, they have a 25-14-1 record with the Turkey dating back to 1966.  What’s more, Dallas has cashed in five straight head-to-head matchups against the Seahawks and in all 5 wins, the Cowboys were an underdog going into every game.

Now, we know what’s on your mind…is Tony Romo healthy?  Romo is back from a broken pinkie and led his team to a much needed win over the Redskins last week.  His return was somewhat shaky throwing for only 198 yards, 1 TD and 2 INT, but on the season Romo has an 18/7 touchdown-interception ratio.  Our contacts in the Cowboy locker room say that Romo looked very sharp in practice and should be 98% come game time.

Seattle (2-9 SU, 4-6-1 ATS) believes they are getting closer to their third win of the season and many top handicappers are saying that the double-digit points are too many to give a 2-9 team this late in the NFL season.  According to inside sources, tensions are high in the Seahawks locker room.  Their last 3 games have been lost by an average margin of 3.7 PPG, but Seattle’s bigger problem is that they are league worst in many important stat categories. Since Week 5 the Seahawks have been out-gained by their opponents at a staggering 186.8 YPG.

The X Factor in this game will be Seattle Quarterback Matt Hasselbeck.  Hasselbeck is recovering from nerve problems in his back and has looked erratic since his return.  What’s more, his completion percentage since his return is only 54.3% and to add insult to serious injury, he has thrown a whopping 5 interceptions.  Seattle is allowing 401.7 passing YPG and if Romo is sharp, the Cowboys will have us sleeping before the Turkey does.

The 76ers (7-7 straight up, 6-8 against the spread) have won their last 3 games at home straight up, despite averaging only 43% from the field and 51 rebounds per game.  The Magic (10-4 SU, 6-7-1 ATS) did not cover against Milwaukee on Monday as 8.5-point home favorites but won the game straight up 108-101.  Orlando is 4-5 ATS when coming off a day of rest and is 4-1 ATS on the road.

College Football Pick Of The Day – Western Michigan @ Ball State – Who Covers The Spread

Tuesday, November 25th, 2008

FiveStarPick.com is hot on another Tuesday Night Football Game between the Western Michigan Broncos and the Ball State Cardinals.  Las Vegas sportsbooks have listed the Cardinals as 10-point home favorites with the total set at 53.

The Broncos (9-2 Straight Up, 5-5 Against The Spread) won last week 27-17 over as 15.5-point home favorites.  Bronco QB Tim Hiller paced  completed 22 of 36 passes for 225 yards and a touchdown.  Hiller has thrown for 3,382 yards this season with 33 touchdowns and only 6 INTs, but passing is not their only threat…Brandon West has rushed for 909 yards and 7 TDs for the season.

Ball State (11-0 SU, 8-2 ATS) has not had an undefeated season since 1949.  The Cards stepped one step closer to perfection last week when they beat the Chippewas 31-24 as a 7-point road favorites. Cardinal QB Nate Davis connected on 12 of 22 passes for 175 yards and 4 TDs. Davis can do it with his feet as well as he ran seven times for 42 yards.  RB MiQuale Lewis rushed for a career high 177 yards on 28 carries to balance out the Cards offensive attack.

NFL Monday Night Football Picks – Packers @ Saints – Who Covers The Spread

Monday, November 24th, 2008

FiveStarPick.com came back with two victories yesterday afternoon putting a cap on our longest losing streak of the season, 6 games.  It happens…and stay far away from any service that tells you differently.  If a touter only stands behind his wins, he’s a loser and so are his clients.  But we have to move on my friends, so grab a pen.

Las Vegas sportsbooks opened New Orleans (5-5 straight up, 6-4 against the spread) as a 2.5-point home favorites with a total set at 51. As of this morning, most Vegas books had adjusted the Saints to a 1-point favorite and the total remained virtually unchanged.

Both Minnesota and Chicago won yesterday, so Green Bay (5-5 SU, 7-3 ATS) is now a half game back in the NFC North. The Packers have covered the spread in their last five games, including blowing out Chicago 37-3 as 3.5-point home favorites.  Ryan Grant rushed for 145 yards and a touchdown in the win and Pakcer QB Aaron Rodgers went 23-30 for 227 yards and two TDs.

The Saints beat Kansas City 30-20 as 6-point favorites last week as they tried desperately to save their season.  Drew Brees passed for 266 yards and a touchdown in the win, while Pierre Thomas and Deuce McAllister eached rushed for one TD.  Lance Moore had 8 receptions for 102 yards including a 47-yard bomb.

The Saints have been plagued with injuries including WR Marques Colston, TE Jeremy Shockey and RB Reggie Bush.  Colston and Shockey are back on the field, but Bush was downgraded to “doubtful” for tonight’s game.
