College Football Pick Of The Day – Texas Tech @ Oklahoma – Who Covers The Spread
Who covers the spread in tonight’s game between the Texas Tech Red Raiders and the Oklahoma Sooners? Why not let FiveStarPick.com help you with the answer today? Aren’t you tired of getting cold called by services that tell you about their 750,000 star play that’s a guaranteed winner? Here is a bit of advice…NOTHING is guaranteed when you are betting on sports! These so called “handicappers” will call 500 people today and give them all a free play; 250 people will get Oklahoma -7 and 250 will get Texas Tech +7. After the game ends, they call back the 250 people who won and pitch them on charging thousands of dollars to their credit cards for more guaranteed winners. FiveStarPick.com is not your typical sports handicapping service. We care about our members and we live and die on every play. Why? Because we are moving thousands of dollars of our own money on the same plays we give you. Gambling on sports is how we make our living. Do we win every play? Absolutely not and we will never pretend to. Our plays are always posted for the world to see, including our losing streaks. But by the end of the year we always seem to have a few hundred thousand dollars of the sportsbook’s money in our casino account. Let us try and do the same for you. Read below for our breakdown of tonight’s Big 12 showdown.
As impressive their two wins were over Texas and Oklahoma St., Texas Tech is still only ranked #2 in the eyes of the pollsters and BCS computers. Las Vegas sportsbooks have listed the Sooners as 7-point home favorites with the total set at 76. Bettors can take advantage of a +210 money line wager (risk $100 to win $210) if the Red Raiders can pull off a road upset in Oklahoma’s Memorial Stadium. In fact, we are surprised that Vegas has given Texas Tech so much value on the money line this week.
The Texas Tech Red Raiders (10-0 Straight Up, 5-3 Against the Spread) are known for their dynamic passing offense under Leach. Texas Tech leads the nation averaging 433.7 yards per game through air and over the last 10 games heisman hopeful QB Graham Harrell has compiled 407.2 YPG by himself. Hopefully Harrell is taking his offensive line out for steaks and hummers every week because without one of the most complete offensive lines in the country, Harrell would just be an average QB. The Red Raiders brought back all five starters from the 2007 season to the O-line, two of which are still Juniors. Harrell has only been sacked five times all season long.
Harrell’s favorite target is another Heisman hopeful and a future first round draft pick, Michael Crabtree. The sophomore Wide Out from Dallas averages 7.8 receptions per game and 101.0 YPG…oh by the way he has 18 touchdowns too. If Crabtree wasn’t enough to worry about, then you have to pay attention to little Eric Morris. At 5′8″ tall, Morris averages 5 catches per game, 59.5 YPG and has 5 TDs. He’s like a Wes Welker and keeps opponent’s secondaries honest.
The Red Raiders also look good on defense. Tech returned its entire defensive line along with two starting linebackers. Their rush defense is ranked 20th in the nation, allowing just 107.4 YPG on the ground.
The Oklahoma Sooners (9-1 SU, 7-2 ATS) rarely lose games at home and that’s what sportbooks are hanging their hats on in this game. In addition, the Sooners have QB Sam Bradford who is 2nd in the nation in passing efficiency with a 188.9 rating for the season. Bradford has completed 58.7 percent of his passes for 886 yards and 12 touchdowns in his last 3 games. Bradford also has one of the more potent rushing attacks in the country as well. RB DeMarco Murray is averaging 80.4 YPG on the ground in 2008, while RB Chris Brown gaines around 80.4 YPG. A tandem threat that the Red Raiders LB’s will have to account for.
Now let’s talk about the Sooner defense. First they allow just 23.6 points per game and have 13 picks this year. That total is more than the 11 touchdowns they have allowed this season. What’s more, the Sooner D-line is averaging 3.4 sacks per game, 3rd best in the country.
