Chick-Fil-A Bowl Picks – LSU vs. Georgia Tech – Who Covers The Spread

Wednesday, December 31st, 2008

FiveStarPick.com is on a 10-5 ATS run this week for its members and looks to add a few more W’s to the win column today.  The focus of this preview is the Chick-Fil-A bowl which features the former National and SEC Champion LSU Tigers against a surging ACC running machine in Georgia Tech.  Las Vegas sportsbooks list the Yellow Jackets as 5-point favorites with the total set at 52.5.

Georgia Tech (9-3 straight up, 7-2-1 against the spread) showed the SEC what the triple option was all about as they gained 409 rushing yards and came from behind to beat Georgia 45-42.  Then went down south and pounced on Miami.

LSU (7-5 SU, 2-9 ATS), on the other hand, has lost back-to-back games, three of its last four and five of its last eight. Even worse, the Tigers have burned up the pockets of their backers with six consecutive ATS defeats. The Tigers were handed a 31-30 loss at Arkansas as 7-point favorites; and their defense has looked terrible.  LSU gave up a last-second game-winning score to the Razorbacks on the second fourth-down conversion of that drive. In addition, the unit has surrendered 31 points in each of the last three games.

LSU’s offense was somewhat productive with true freshman quarterback Jordon Jefferson running the show against the Hogs. Jefferson, who will get the starting nod against Ga. Tech, ran for 57 yards and threw for 143 at Arkansas.

So who covers the spread in tonight’s game?  FiveStarPick.com is here to help. Aren’t you tired of getting cold called by services that tell you about their 750,000 star play that’s a guaranteed winner. Here is a bit of advice…NOTHING is guaranteed when you are betting on sports.  These so called “handicappers” call 500 people a day and give them all a free play; 250 people will get LSU+5 and 250 will get Ga Tech -5.  After the game ends, they call back the 250 people who won and pitch them on charging thousands of dollars to their credit cards for more guaranteed winners.   We are not your typical sports handicapping service.  We care about our members and we live and die on every play. Why?  Because we are moving thousands of dollars of our own money on the same plays we give you. Gambling on sports is how we make our living.  Do we win every play?  Absolutely not and we will never pretend to.  Our plays are always posted for all to see, including our losing streaks. But by the end of the year we always seem to have a few hundred thousand dollars of the sportsbook’s money in our casino account.  Let us try and do the same for you.  Join our family of winners today and start your winning streak tonight.

Holiday Bowl Picks – Oklahoma State vs. Oregon – Who Covers The Spread

Tuesday, December 30th, 2008

FiveStarPick.com is coming off a 50/50 day yesterday, but looks for more wins as we give our members the winner of 3 plays in the bowl lineup tonight.  The focus of this preview is tonight’s Holiday Bowl which features the Cowboys of Oklahoma State and the Ducks of Oregon.  Las Vegas sportsbooks list the Cowboys as 2.5-point favorites with the total listed at 77.

Oregon (9-3 straight up, 6-6 against the spread) has been beating opponents with their ground game that has racked up 3,334 yards on the season.  Oregon is 5-1 ATS in their last 6 bowl games as an underdog and Oklahoma State is 4-0 ATS its last four non-conference games.  Oregon won its last three games SU and ATS. The Ducks ended Oregon State’s dreams of a Rose Bowl by beating the Beavers November 29 as a three-point road underdog, 65-38. The combined 103 points soared ‘over’ the 58 ½-point closing total.

Oklahoma State (9-3 SU, 8-3 ATS) is looking forward to a school-record tying 10th win.  This is the first time these schools have met.  The Cowboys have alternated SU wins and losses the past six games after falling to rival Oklahoma November 29 as a 9 ½-point home underdog, 61-41. The combined 102 points went ‘over’ the 75-point closing total.

Alamo Bowl Picks – Northwestern vs. Missouri – Who Covers The Spread

Monday, December 29th, 2008

FiveStarPick.com looks to continue its college bowl dominance as we give our members the winner of today’s 2 bowl games.  The focus our our preview is the Alamo bowl which matches up the Missouri Tigers with the Northwestern Wildcats.  Las Vegas sportsbooks are listing the Tigers as 12 ½-point favorites with the total set at 66.

The Missouri Tiger Senior Chase Daniel is ranked 7th in the nation in passing efficiency with a rating of 164.8 in 2008 and his offense is 6th in the country with 497.5 yards per game. Daniel’s favorite targets are wide receiver Jeremy Maclin and tight end Chase Coffman.  Maclin boasts 95 catches for 1,221 yards and 12 touchdowns and Coffman has 83 catches this year for 920 yards and another 10 scores.

Those two receivers will be facing up against a Northwestern secondary that ranks 74th in the country giving up 215.3 YPG though the air.  But the Wildcats haven’t faced an attack this powerful all year.  The Wildcats will probably move out their linebackers to help cover Mizzou’s third and fourth receivers at the line, which will benefit Missouri’s RB Derrick Washington. The sophomore is averaging 76.3 YPG this season and 6.1 yards per carry.

This is actually the first time these two schools have met since splitting a home-and-home series, both straight up and against the spread, during the 1985 and 1987 seasons. Northwestern has seemingly forgotten how to win a bowl game, losing its last five postseason appearances since winning the 1948 Rose Bowl over California.

NFL Pick Of The Day – Dolphins @ Jets – Who Covers The Spread

Sunday, December 28th, 2008

FiveStarPick.com has analyzed Week 17 in the NFL and will give its members the winner of 4 games in today’s lineup.  The focus of today’s preview is the much anticipated re-match of two teams that absolutely hate each other.  Las Vegas sportsbooks list the New York Jets (9-6 Straight Up, 7-8 Against The Spread) as 3-point favorites with the total set at 43.

The Miami Dolphins (10-5 SU, 7-8 ATS) has won eight of their last nine games, but are just 4-5 ATS.  Miami beat Kansas City last week 38-31 and cashed for bettors as a 3.5-point road favorite.  Pennington completed 26-of-34 through the air for 235 yards and 3 TDs.

The Jets have lost 3 of their last 4 games including a 10-3 loss on the road in Seattle which cost many bettors thousands.  After all, this is the same Jets team that went on a five-game winning streak capped by incredible road wins at New England and at Tennessee.  So, to keep their playoff hopes alive, New York has to beat Miami and hope that Buffalo knocks off New England in order to win the AFC East.

Miami linebacker Channing Crowder (knee) and cornerback Will Allen (groin) missed practice Wednesday and were limited on Thursday. Both are “questionable” and will most likely be game-time decisions. Crowder, who has 105 tackles for the season, missed last week’s win at KC.

Now let’s talk trends…The ‘Fins have been great on the road, going 5-2 both SU and ATS. Likewise, the Jets are 5-2 both SU and ATS at home.  The Jets have dominated this rivalry over the last decade.  New York owns a 20-4-2 spread record against the ‘Fins in their last 26 head-to-head meetings.  When these clubs met in Week 1, the Jets captured a 20-14 win as three-point road favorites.  The ‘under’ is 9-6 overall for Miami, but the ‘over’ is 4-3 in its road assignments. The Jets have watched the ‘over’ go 8-6-1 overall, 5-2 in their home games.

So who covers the spread in today’s game?  This game is way too close to call.  But why not let FiveStarPick.com help you make money on other games in the NFL today?  Aren’t you tired of getting cold called by services that tell you about their 750,000 star play that’s a guaranteed winner. Here is a bit of advice…NOTHING is guaranteed when you are betting on sports.  These so called “handicappers” call 500 people on a Saturday morning and give them all a free play; 250 people will get the Jets -3 and 250 will get the Dolphins +3.  After the game ends, they call back the 250 people who won and pitch them on charging thousands of dollars to their credit cards for more guaranteed winners.   We are not your typical sports handicapping service.  We care about our members and we live and die on every play. Champs Sports Bowl Picks – Wisconsin vs. Florida State – Who Covers The Spread

Saturday, December 27th, 2008

The pros at FiveStarPick.com are starting on another hot streak and there has never been a better time to become a member of our family.  Today we are handicapping the Champs Sports Bowl which features the Wisconsin Badgers and the Florida State Seminoles.  Las Vegas sports books have listed the Seminoles as 6-point favorites with the total settling in around 52.

Wisconsin thought they were on their way back to Big 10 glory after defeating the Volunteers in last season’s Outback Bowl 21-17.  After all, they would be returning 15 starters from a squad that went 9-4 in 2007.  The Badger strategy has always been to run the ball and with RB P.J. Hill in the backfield and a starting offensive line averaging 316.2 pounds, Wisconsin believes they can do it.

Wisconsin currently ranks 14th in the nation on the ground with 212.0 yards per game.  And their 2nd string rusher, redshirt freshman John Clay, ran for 845 yards and 9 touchdowns this year.  But the Badgers can’t run it on every play and that seems to be their biggest problem.  Allan Evridge was benched after the Kansas Statae game because of production problems, so the Badgers enlisted Dustin Sherer under center.  Sherer hasn’t been that much better completing only 54.3 percent of his passes for 1,257 yards and a TD/INT ratio of 5:5.

The Seminoles are one of the best defensive programs in the country.  The defensive unit at FSU has only allowed 291.8 YPG this season, which ranks them 14th in the nation in total defense. And the ‘Noles have the 33rd ranked rush defense in the country, allowing only 126.8 YPG on the ground.  In addition, FSU is 2nd in the nation with an average of 8.6 tackles for loss per game in 2008.

FSU’s offense, however, isn’t the best.  The Seminoles are averaging 368.7 YPG on the attack this year, 55th in the country. While the running (182.8) and passing (185.8) games are about equal, the ‘Noles rely more on the ground game to help them win games.  And that means a lot of Antone Smith. The senior from Pahokee, Florida leads the program with 753 yards and 14 touchdowns on 161 carries this season.  QB Christian Ponder will get the start today for the Noles.  Ponder has thrown more interceptions (13) than touchdowns (12) this year, but he still was named the team’s offensive MVP this year.

Favorites in the Champs Sports Bowl have gone 10-7 straight up and 8-9 against the spread since the bowl was known as the Blockbuster Bowl in 1990.  The Seminoles are 11-5 SU as favorites this year, but 8-8 ATS.
