MLB Winning Baseball Picks – Orioles @ Red Sox – Covering The Spread

Sunday, July 26th, 2009

Another win for the good guys last night as the Dodgers squeaked out a win over the streaking Marlins to maintain the best record in the Bigs.  But regardless of our current win streak, we are only as good as our next win to our membership.  Today we will be giving our members the winner of the Boston Red Sox and Baltimore Orioles.  Las Vegas sportsbooks list the Red Sox as -170 Money Line Favorites with a total set at 10 runs.

The Sox seem to be coming back into form and now they’re hoping John Smoltz can get his old ass arm back into form as well.  The 42-year-old will try to lead Boston to a three-game home sweep of the Orioles today and it may help that the Orioles have lost their last 11 games at Fenway Park.

Boston’s five-game losing streak to close its road trip dropped the club 2.5 games behind the Yankees in the AL East, but the Red Sox (57-39) picked up a game Saturday with their second straight win over the last-place Orioles.  After a lackluster showing from their normally potent starting lineup, Boston’s bats finally showed some life in Saturday’s 7-2 victory.  David Ortiz hit a three-run home run and newbee Adam LaRoche pounded a two-run shot for his first ever hit with the team.  It was the first time the Red Sox had scored more than four runs since their 6-0 win over the Royals on July 12th.

Boston has won five straight at Fenway and got a strong performance from left-hander Jon Lester on Saturday.  Smoltz is 1-3, with a 6.31 ERA in his first five starts with his new club and has often struggled to prevent a big inning since coming off the disabled list June 25th of this year. In his last outing Monday at Texas he allowed one run through the first five innings, then gave up five runs in the sixth.

The Red Sox have won 15 of their last 17 against Baltimore, including the last 11 meetings at Fenway Park.  The Orioles (41-55) has also lost five straight games overall to fall to an AL-worst 15-34 on the road. They will turn to rookie David Hernandez (2-2, 3.55) to try to snap their losing streak.  Hernandez is coming off three straight quality starts.  He gave up one run and three hits in six innings Monday at Yankee Stadium and he retired 16 of the final 17 batters he faced in that game, resulting in a 2-1 Orioles loss.

MLB Winning Baseball Picks – Marlins @ Dodgers – Covering The Spread

Saturday, July 25th, 2009

The pros at FiveStarPick.com are on another hot streak winning 13 of our last 14 MLB Picks and tonight should be no different as we give our members the winner of the NL matchup between the scrappy Florida Marlins and the Major League’s best record Los Angeles Dodgers.  Las Vegas sportsbooks list the Dodgers as -160 Money Line Favorites with the total hovering around 9.5 runs.

A 4-game winning streak will be on the line for the Florida Marlins on Saturday as they give the ball to starter Rick Vanden Hurk.  The right-hander is 1-0 this season with a 3.00 ERA. Vanden Hurk’s opponent is right-hander Hiroki Kuroda who has a 4.37 ERA to go along with a 3-5 record this season.

The Marlins pounded out 14 hits as they cruised past the Dodgers 6-3 on Friday as +140 underdogs. The games nine runs went OVER the closing total (7).  Josh Johnson improved to 9-2 with the victory, and Leo Nunez closed out the ninth with his seventh save.

Wes Helms had three hits and drove in one run for the Dodgers, but James McDonald gave up the winning run in relief to suffer the loss.

A few trends to consider:
Florida is 5-0 SU in its last 5 games on the road
Florida is 4-1 SU in their last 5 games when playing on the road against LA Dodgers
Florida is 4-1 SU in its last 5 games
LA Dodgers are 5-1 SU in their last 6 games at home
LA Dodgers are 5-1 SU in their last 6 games
LA Dodgers are 1-4 SU in their last 5 games when playing at home against Florida

2009 British Open Golf Picks – Westwood vs. Garcia – 1st Round Matchup

Wednesday, July 15th, 2009

The pros at FiveStarPick.com would rather be betting on the golf course than in any sportsbook, so as golf fans, the week of a major championship gets our juices flowing.  Today the sportsbooks have matched up Lee Westwood against Sergio Garcia and we think this is a major mis-match.

This will be the fourth time the Open has been played at Turnberry and the first since 1994 when Nick Price eagled the 17th hole in route to a one-shot victory over Jesper Parnevik.  Many of you will also remember the Open Championship in 1986 when Greg Norman won…and what about Tom Watson’s victory over Nicklaus in 1977?

Turnberry has been lengthened substantially since 1994…big surprise…and the weather at a British Open is always a major factor. The early forecast shows overcast skys with a bit of wind and rain. The wind could be the big catalyst for players who cannot flight the ball and it will certainly dry the course out which will funnel more balls into Turnberry’s deep pot bunkers.

Every Major tournament starts and ends with Tiger Woods (+165). He now has 14 Major championships, but he missed the Open Championship last season.  In addition, this will be his first ever walk around the Turnberry track. He was at Stanford the last time the Open came to Turnberry.  That may not seem like a way to win here but Woods has won five Majors at courses that he was playing competitively for the first time.

Two-time defending champion Padraig Harrington (+2200) will be a favorite for mant Europeans this week, but Harrington has missed the cut in eight of his last 14 starts, including five in a row.  Harrington decided to change his swing after winning his 3rd major becasue he felt his position at impact needed improvement.  Yikes…Dude, don’t tinker with your swing.

When will Sergio (+2000) finally break through for a Major championship?  Many thought last season was the year following a win at The Players and Woods missing the final two Majors of the season, but it was not to be. He finished T51 in 2008, which was a big disappointment considering his playoff loss in 2007 and his T5 in 2006.  The loss in 2007 was devistating to the Spanaird and I am sure it will still be at the forefront of his mind as he hits the 1st tee on Thursday morning.  It’s weird how most of us only seem to remember the bad beats in our lives.

The man with the plan this year is Rory McIlroy (+1800) who comes in a surprising second in the odds to Woods. It is surprising not because of his ability, but because of his lack of experience. He played in the 2007 Open Championship as an amateur and had a solid T42 and this year he brought home a T10 at the U.S. Open and a T20 at the Masters, so maybe the experience may not matter.

Who else should you bet on in the 2009 British Open at Turnberry?  FiveStarPick.com is the foremost authority picking winners on the PGA Tour.  We crunch the stats, trends, injury reports and talk to the players to bring our members the most accurate golf picks on the planet.  Join our service for just 2 days and see if our talent for betting on golf exceeds your expectations.  Once you experience the adrenaline rush that goes hand in hand with winning, you will be our client for life.

2009 MLB All Star Game Picks – American League vs. National League – Covering The Spread

Tuesday, July 14th, 2009

FiveStarPick.com looks forward to the MLB All Star Game every year because it means there is only two more months until the start of football season.  But seeing that baseball is America’s pastime, we do what we can to keep your interest through a grueling 160 game season.  Today we give our members another MLB All Star Game winner.  Here is an amazing stat…FiveStarPick.com is 11-0-1 in money line winners for our membership over the last 12 MLB All Star games.  Las Vegas sportsbooks list the American League as -111 money line favorites with the total of 9.5 runs.

It used to be that America really looked forward to the MLB All-Star Game. The best players from the National and American Leagues joined forces to put on a mid summer show.  Today, while we still see top shelf players, the buzz circling the All Star Game has been diminished due to interleague play, free agency and performance enhancing drugs.  Back in 2003 Bud Selig tried to add some meaning to the contest by awarding Wold Series home-field advantage to the winning club. That’s helped to a degree, but something is still not right.

As far as satisfying our gambling problem is concerned, this is always a tough game to handicap.  Should you back the home league? What about riding the side with the league’s best record?  Is it really worth playing the total?

If you’re going to be betting just on what you read in history books, then you’ll be wagering on the National League tonight. In the past 79 installments of the “Midsummer Classic,” the Senior Circuit holds a 40-37-2 edge. But looks can be deceiving.

The majority of the NL’s wins in this game came between 1950 and 1987. During that stretch, the National Leaguers posted a 33-6-1 record. I know you’re thinking my math is a bit off there with 40 games being played in 37 years. But there was a stretch there from 1959 and 1962 that there were two games All-Star Games played (one in each league).

Unfortunately for fans of the Senior Circuit, all they have is the past to look at for glory. The American League has won 11 straight exhibitions, with the tie in 2002.

So does the American League or the National League win the 2009 MLB All Star Game?  Let the pros at FiveStarPick.com analyze the stats and trends and take some of the pressure off you tonight.  This is our life and our living and FiveStarPick.com will take away the guesswork in betting MLB games and provide you with winning MLB Picks that beat the spread and get results.  We are consistently providing over 3000 members with MLB Picks that cover the spread.  If you’re skeptical, monitor our plays from our homepage and see if our talent for picking winners exceeds your expectations.  Or join for two days…it’s only $19.99.  Join our family today and start winning tonight.

MLB Baseball Picks – Athletics @ Red Sox – Covering The Spread

Wednesday, July 8th, 2009

The pros at FiveStarPick.com hit another Money Line winner last night as we gave our members the Yankees over the Twins.  Today we switch gears in the American League handicapping tonight’s matchup between the Oakland Athletics and the Boston Red Sox.  Las Vegas Sportsbooks list the Red Sox as -167 Money Line favorites with a total of 9.

Tim Wakefield will try to help the Boston Red Sox to a victory in the final game of this three-game series with the A’s.  Boston will try to earn back-to-back wins for the first time in nearly two weeks and maintain its slim AL East lead.

In his 17th MLB season and 15th with the Boston Red Sox, Wakefield (10-3, 4.30 ERA) finally is finally an All-Star.  His strong first half of the season has included 10 quality starts. One of those came on April 15, when he took a no-hitter into the eighth inning in Oakland, settling for a complete game in Boston’s 8-2 victory.  Josh Beckett tied him for the team lead in victories in Tuesday’s 5-2 victory, but tonight the knuckleballer will have a chance to become the AL’s first 11-game winner.

Even after a 7-6, 11-inning loss to Seattle on Friday, the Red Sox are still 12-4 when Wakefield pitches. The right-hander allowed five runs in eight innings against the Mariners, but he’s still 8-0 with a 3.34 ERA in his last 11 home starts dating back to September.
