College Football Pick Of The Day – Cincinnati @ Oregon State – Covering The Spread

Saturday, September 19th, 2009
The pros at FiveStarPick.com are coming off another 2-0 night for our members as we gave them Boise State -7.5 and the Over 55.  Today there are 4 games on our radar screen, but the focus of today’s preview is the ‘Total’ in the Cincinnati-Oregon State game.  Las Vegas sportsbooks list the Bearcats as 2-point road favorites with a total of 55.

Cincinnati knew that it would have a great offense this season with quality guys like QB Tony Pike and wide receiver Mardy Gilyard.  The concern for Cincinnati was a defense that had to replace 10 starters. It turns out that might be a strength after allowing only 18 points in their first two games of the season including six (6) INT’s.

The Beavers aren’t nearly as dominant on defense as they’ve been in the past few years. Yet this is still the best defense Cincy has seen this season.  Oregon State will give the Bearcats fits trying to defend RB’s Jacquizz and James Rodgers. The brothers have compiled 548 total yards of offense and six touchdowns in their first two games.

Cincinnati has been the West Coast play for bettors as they’re 3-1 SU and against the spread when traveling West.

College Football Pick Of The Day – Boise State @ Fresno State – Covering The Spread

Friday, September 18th, 2009

The Pros at FiveStarPick.com went 1-1 last night as we gave our members GA Tech +5.5 and the Under 57.  We lost some juice, but plan to get it all back tonight as we handicap the Boise State/Fresno State matchup tonight at 9:00 pm on ESPN.  Las Vegas sportsbooks list the Broncos as 7.5-point road favorites with a total of 54.

Boise State’s program has become the gold standard for non-BCS schools after their 2006 Fiesta Bowl appearance when they put the “hook n’ ladder” and the “statue of liberty” play on the Sooners. Old Bob Stoops didn’t know what hit him after that game.  On Coach Petersen’s watch, Boise State has compiled an incredible 37-4 SU record to go with a 23-15 against the spread mark.

The Broncos started the season by beating Oregon 19-8 as three-point favorites on the blue field.  They didn’t allow the Ducks to get a first down until the third quarter.  That’s a stout defense.  BSU has always been an offensive powerhouse, but now the Broncos are playing outstanding defense.  That was on display last week, dealing Miami (OH.) a shutout in a 48-0 win as 40-point favorites.

Fresno St. started the season by crushing UC Davis 51-0 in a non-lined matchup.  In Week 2, the Bulldogs went to Laverne and Shirleyville and returned home with a very dissapointing loss to Wisconsin, 34-31 in double overtime. Heartbreaking to Bulldog fans, but great for Bulldog bettors as Fresno State did hook up its backers with winning tickets as a nine-point road underdog.

Fresno has lost seven of the last eight head-to-head meetings against Boise St.  These teams were tied at 10-10 late in the second quarter of last year’s encounter, but the Broncos responded with 51 unanswered points en route to an easy cover against the spread.

For the most part, Coach Hill has to like what he’s seeing from junior quarterback Nate Colburn, who came into the year having attempted just five career passes. Colburn has completed 27-of-45 passes for 450 yards and five touchdowns…but 4 interceptions have corrupted his numbers.

College Football Pick Of The Day – Georgia Tech @ Miami – Covering The Spread

Thursday, September 17th, 2009

The pros at FiveStarPick.com are giving our members another against the spread winner tonight as we handicap Thursday Night’s ESPN College Football ACC matchup between the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets and the Miami Hurricanes.  Las Vegas sportsbooks list the Hurricanes as 5.5-point home favorites with a total of 54.

Last week Georgia Tech went up early on Clemson, 21-0, thanks to a couple special teams plays.  But the Tigers came all the way back to tie the game and even take the lead.  In the end however, QB Josh Nesbitt made a couple of timely throws to get The Yellow Jackets into field goal range and Tech won the game 30-27.  The ground game was a huge part of the win, rushing for over 300 yards against Clemson, but bettors laying 5.5 on the Yellow Jackets didn’t care much about the straight up win.

For Georgia Tech to cover the spread tonight, head coach Paul Johnson will need to patch up some holes in his Georgia Tech defense.  Clemson redshirt freshman QB Kyle Parker threw for 261 yards and three (3) touchdowns last Thursday against GA Tech and you can be sure that Hurricanes quarterback Jacory Harris has been studying the film.

Harris, the sophomore signal caller making only his third career start, toppled the Florida State defense for 386 yards and two TDs.  Harris spread the ball around to eight (8) different receivers, but mostly to WRs Travis Benjamin and Leonard Hankerson.

Of course, Randy Shannon and the Miami defense certainly remembers the 2008 meeting between these two programs when the Yellow Jackets ran for 472 yards en route to a 41-23 victory.  The Georgia Tech defense must get effective pressure on Harris and the Hurricanes passing attack to escape South Florida with a win.

Monday Night Football Picks – Bills @ Patriots – Who Covers The Spread

Monday, September 14th, 2009

The pros at FiveStarPick.com will be giving our members the against the spread winner of tonight’s Monday Night Football matchup between the Buffalo Bills and the New England Patriots.  FiveStarPick.com is now 5-0 handicapping the NFL in 2009 and we look forward to another win tonight.  Las Vegas sportsbooks list the Patriots as 11-point home favorites with a total of 47.

The 2008 season is one reigning MVP Tom Brady is ready to forget.  Brady tore his ACL in the first half against the Chiefs and his season was done, so was New England’s. The Pats did manage an 11-5 record behind backup QB Matt Cassell, but didn’t make the postseason, as the Dolphins won the AFC East.  The Bills, meanwhile, decided to tept fate by signing the sometimes destructive Terrell Owens.  Buffalo started last season on fire, going 5-1, but then lost eight of ten games to end the year. The Bills crushed the betting public with a 3-7 against the spread mark to end the season, including a 1-5 against the spread record when laying points.

Buffalo finished 0-6 SU and 1-5 against the spread against division opponents, with the lone pointspread cover coming last December in a 31-27 loss at the Jets as an eight-point dog.  The Bills will be without starting running back Marshawn Lynch on Monday, serving the first game of a league-mandated three-game suspension.

So who covers the spread in tonight’s Monday Night Football debut?  It’s very easy to find out.  Try FiveStarPick.com for a month ($99.99) and see if our talent for picking college and pro football winners exceeds your expectations.  We are the only sports handicapping service in the business who documents wins and losses and displays them on our homepage for all to witness.  It’s because we have nothing to hide…we just win games against the spread.  Join our family today and start your winning streak tonight.

NFL Pick Of The Day – Vikings @ Browns – Cover The Spread

Sunday, September 13th, 2009

FiveStarPick.com is coming off a blistering 3-0 start to the NFL season as we gave our over 3000 members two 1st half against the spread winners and a parlay winner in Thursday night’s opener.  Today we look to continue the trend as we give against the spread winners in two NFL matchups.  The focus of this preview is today’s 1:00pm game between the Minnesota Vikings and the Cleveland Browns.  Las Vegas sportsbooks list the Vikings as 3.5-point road favorites with a total of 40.  THIS LINE IS DEAD WRONG!!!

The Vikings went 10-6 last year to win the NFC North, but quickly bowed out of the playoffs with a Wild Card-round loss to Philadelphia.  With a potent running game led by Adrian Peterson and a solid defense, Minnesota went in search of an upgrade at quarterback this off-season.  First, they traded for Sage Rosenfels, but mid-way through the exhibition season the Vikes talked Favre into coming back, and he is fully expected to be the starter the rest of this year.

In 2006 the Browns went 4-12. Then, with QB Derek Anderson throwing the ball all over the field, Cleveland went 10-6 in ‘07 and nearly made the playoffs. But last year, playing with the expectation of a post-season appearance, Cleveland collapsed, won just four games, and parted ways with head coach Romeo Crennel. They then replaced him with another Belichick disciple, Eric Mangini, who went 23-25 in three years as head man with the Jets, and got canned after going 9-7 and missing the playoffs last year.  And although he tried to keep it a secret, Mangini has supposedly decided that former Golden Domer Brady Quinn will start at QB for the Browns Sunday.

Minnesota went just 6-10 against the spread last season, and 3-5 against the spread on the road.  The Browns went 7-9 against the spread last year and 3-1 against the spread as home dogs.

The Vikes went 3-1 both SU and against the spread during this just-completed exhibition season, beating the Colts, Chiefs and Texans, and losing to the Cowboys. Cleveland, meanwhile, just went 2-2 both SU and against the spread this preseason, beating the Lions and Titans and losing to the Packers and Bears.

So who covers the spread today?  It’s very easy to find out.  Try FiveStarPick.com for a month ($99.99) and see if our talent for picking college and pro football winners exceeds your expectations.  We are the only sports handicapping service in the business who documents wins and losses and displays them on our homepage for all to witness.  It’s because we have nothing to hide…we just win games against the spread.  Join our family today and start your winning streak tonight.
