Florida vs. Georgia – Winning College Football Picks Against The Spread

Saturday, October 31st, 2009

The pros at FiveStarPick.com are back in action today as we give our members the winner of “The World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party.”  The Georgia Bulldogs will travel to Jacksonville to take on the #1 Ranked Florida Gators and Las Vegas sportsbooks list the Gators as 15.5-point favorites with at total of 49.5.

This year Florida (7-0 SU, 2-3 ATS) will try to hold on to their #1 spot and work toward another National Championship, while Georgia (4-3 SU, 2-5 ATS) would love nothing more than to be spoilers in this spot.  A victory for Urban Meyer would lock up a spot in the SEC Championship, his third in the last four seasons.  However, the Gators offense hasn’t been clicking like the 2008 squad, so opposing defenses have been getting a steady dose of Tim Tebow.  The defense is coming off a performance of four sacks and three interceptions against Mississippi State. Florida has won three of the last four meetings between these two teams (2-2 against the spread), including a 49-10 blowout win last year to avenge the 2007 team Georgia end zone dance.

This game is not an easy game to handicap, but the pros at FiveStarPick.com have broken down every stat, trend, injury report and weather forcast on this game to provide our members with a winning play.  Try FiveStarPick.com today for only ($19.99) and see if our talent for picking college and pro football winners exceeds your expectations.  We are the only sports handicapping service in the business that documents our wins and losses, then displays them on our homepage for all to see.  It’s because we have nothing to hide…we just win games against the spread.  Join our family today and start your winning streak tonight.

North Carolina @ Virginia Tech – Winning College Football Picks Against The Spread

Thursday, October 29th, 2009

The pros at FiveStarPick.com are on another 6-0 run against the spread for our members and tonight we will be arming them with another winner in the North Carolina/Virginia Tech game on ESPN.  Las Vegas sportsbooks list the Hokies as 16.5-point home favorites with a total of 43.5.

The Tar Heels and the Seminoles played last Thursday Night on ESPN and had a pretty interesting game, but as 16.5-point dogs, oddsmakers don’t expect another close one tonight. The main reason for this big number is that UNC’s offense sucks big-time.  Heading into last Thursday night against Florida State, the Tar Heels had the 117th ranked offense in the land. There are only 120 schools in Division 1-A!  Helloooo???

After putting up 27 points on FSU, the Heels now are 114th in the nation in total offense.  But the Heels did mangage to bring something positive away from the loss last week as their rushing offense ran for 238 yards.  The bad news for Tar Heel fans, Quarterback T.J. Yates completed just 12-of-25 attempts for 64 yards against the Noles.  Carolina relies mostly on their defense to keep them in games, but FSU QB Christian Ponder lit up the Tar Heels defense for 395 passing yards.

Virginia Tech doesn’t have the offensive weapons of Florida State, so the Heels can expect to see a lot of RB Ryan Williams.  Williams has five 100-yard rushing games in 2009 and has scored 11 touchdowns for the Hokies. The freshman will have his work cut out for him this week against a Carolina D-line anchored by a pair of huge tackles in Marvin Austin (6-3, 305) and Cam Thomas (6-4, 325).

The Hokies have averaged 34 points a game over their last four games, but like Carolina, Tech leans heavily on their defense to keep them in games.

The last time these teams hooked up, Virginia Tech clipped the Tar Heels 20-17 in Chapel Hill. On the season, North Carolina is 1-4 against the spread while Virginia Tech is 3-4 against the spread.

Phillies @ Yankees – Winning Game 1 World Series Picks Against The Spread

Wednesday, October 28th, 2009

The pros at FiveStarPick.com are coming off another huge win for our members as we gave out ECU -4 over Memphis. It was a blowout. Tonight we are focused on Game 1 of the World Series between the Philadephia Phillies and the New York Yankees. Las Vegas sportsbooks list the Yankees as -163 Money Line favorites with a run total of 8.

New York won its first pennant since 2003 and the 40th in franchise history after eliminating the Angels in six games in the ALCS, while the Phillies clinched their second straight pennant last Wednesday against the Dodgers.

The Yankees began the season by picking up three of the top players available in the offseason with pitchers CC Sabathia and AJ Burnett as well as slugger Mark TeixieraSabathia finished the regular season with a 19-9 record and has really stepped up his game in the playoffs, winning all three starts and capturing the ALCS MVP.  Sabathia pitched two eight-inning games against the Angels, allowing nine hits and only two earned runs.

The Phillies are still the defending World Series Champions and have really caught fire in the postseason, winning seven of nine games eliminating the Rockies and Dodgers from the postseason. The Phillies took two of three meetings from the Yankees back in May and all three of those contests finished ‘under’ the total.

Ace Cliff Lee will get the start tonight in Game 1 for the Phillies. The reigning AL Cy Young Award winner is 9-4 with the Phillies, including three postseason starts and has given up just two earned runs, while striking out 20 in three playoff victories.

So who wins Game 1 of the World Series? East Carolina @ Memphis – Winning College Football Picks Against The Spread

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009

The pros at FiveStarPick.com cashed another Monday Night Football ticket last night as we gave our members the Philadelphia Eagles to cover the 7.5-point spread. It’s always amazing to see that as soon as we posted our play at -7.5 the line jumped to -9. Over 3000 members putting dime bets on Philly will do that. Sportsbooks are always looking for an edge, so make sure you get our Five Star plays in as soon as they are released. Tonight we are handicapping the ESPN2 college football game between the East Carolina Pirates and the Memphis Tigers.  Las Vegas sportsbooks list the Pirates as 4-point road favorites with a total of 48.

East Carolina is coming off a 49-13 route of Rice last week, while Memphis suffered a 36-16 loss to Southern Miss. East Carolina has won three straight in this series, including a 30-10 home win as a 9-point favorite last year.

ECU is 11-6 all-time against Memphis and has won six of their last eight road games against Conference USA East opponents.  Last year, Memphis kept up with ECU in the 1st half, but the Pirates scored 23 unanswered points in the second half, and allowed only 49 yards. The Pirates defense is stout as they have held their last two opponents (SMU, Rice) to just 53 rushing yards per game.

Memphis has a strong running back in Curtis Steele, who has rushed for 376 yards in the Tigers last two games. ECU will have to force Memphis to beat them through the air if they want to have any chance to win this game on the road.  They are ranked second in the conference with 10 interceptions and Tiger quarterbacks have thrown 11 picks on the season.

QB Patrick Pinkney and wide receiver Dwayne Harris are the big playmakers for ECU. Pinkney is coming off his 12th career 200-yard passing game and Harris was named C-USA Special Teams Player of the Week after returning a kickoff 92 yards for 6. He finished with 264 all-purpose yards and three touchdowns against Rice. The Pirates are 10-1 against the spread in their last 11 meetings with Memphis.

Eagles @ Redskins – Monday Night Football Picks Against The Spread

Monday, October 26th, 2009

Coming off another 2-0 Sunday in the NFL, the pros at FiveStarPick.com look forward to another winner tonight as we give our members the against the spread winner of tonight’s Monday Night Football game between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Washington Redskins.  Most Las Vegas sportsbooks opened the Eagles as 6-point road favorties with a total of 38.5.  As of this morning, most books have moved the Eagles to a 7-point chalk with the Total coming down to 37.

The Redskins have had their fair share of problems this year under headcoach Jim Zorn.  After spending mega millions on All-Pro Albert Haynesworth, many thought the Redskins were making all the right moves for a title run. However, the season began with a loss to the Giants in the Meadowlands and hasn’t gotten much better since.  A week later the Redskins pulled out an ugly 9-7 decision over the winless Rams and then managed to give Detroit their first victory since 2007 losing to the Lions 19-14 on the road. Redskin fans wanted blood!  Both of Washington’s victories have come over teams that are still winless, with the other being the Tampa Bay Bucs.  After the 16-13 win over the Bucs, the ‘Skins lost 20-17 at Carolina.

The Redskin offense has really sucked this year, failing to score more than 17 points through six games. Jason Campbell was benched last week and although he’ll start tonight, he could once again be on a short leash.  Campbell has a 65.6 percent completion rate, has thrown for 1,197 passing yards and has a 6/6 touchdown-interception ratio. Backup Todd Collins wasn’t much better completing 6-of-14 passes for 75 yards, with no TD’s or interceptions. Santana Moss seems to be the only playmaker with 22 receptions for 379 yards and two TDs this year. Clinton Portis is recovering from an ankle injury, but he went at full speed in Saturday’s practice and will start according to sources within the Redskin organization. Portis averages 4.2 yards per carry and has 447 rushing yards and one rushing TD this season.

Philadelphia is coming off it’s worst game of the season, a 13-9 loss to the Raiders as 14-point road favorites.  Donovan McNabb was sacked six times by Oakland and only threw for 269 yards.  The offense had to settle for five field-goal attempts, but converted only three.

McNabb cracked a rib in the season opener with Carolina, but appeared to be back to 100 percent in practice this week.  For the season, McNabb has a 5/1 touchdown-interception ratio and his team leads the NFL in passing yards per game (340.7). The Eagles are 3rd in the league in total offense (409 YPG) and will be facing a Washington pass defense that is ranked 24th, giving up 241.3 yards per game through the air.

Redskins DT Albert Haynesworth is listed as “questionable” with an ankle injury for tonight’s game and offensive lineman, Chris Samuels, is out for the year with a neck injury.

Now let’s talk trends…the ‘Skins are 6-2-1 against the spread in their last nine games against the Eagles. The ‘over’ is 4-1 overall for the Eagles, 1-1 in their road games.  Washington has seen the ‘under’ go 5-1 overall, 3-0 in its home outings.  The ‘under’ is 8-2-1 in the last 11 head-to-head meetings between these two teams.

So who covers the spread in tonight’s Monday Night Football matchup?  It’s very easy to find out.  Try FiveStarPick.com tonight for just ($19.99) and see if our talent for picking college and pro football winners exceeds your expectations.  We are the only sports handicapping service in the business who documents wins and losses and displays them on our homepage for all to witness.  It’s because we have nothing to hide…we just win games against the spread.  Join our family today and start your winning streak tonight.
