Patriots @ Saints – Monday Night Football Picks Against The Spread

Monday, November 30th, 2009

The pros at FiveStarPick.com, like many around the country, are really looking forward to this Monday Night matchup between two of the NFL’s top talents.  The undefeated New Orleans Saints are entering their toughest test of the season against a very skilled and crafty Patriots team.  Las Vegas sportsbooks list the Saints as 1.5 point home favorites with a total of 57.

The Saints have been lighting up defenses this year and have achieved their best start in franchise history at 10-0. They average 420.5 yards/game and are scoring 36.9 ppg. For our purposes, the Saints have been a double-digit favorite in each of their last four games, covering the spread in only one of the contests, a 31-7 blowout of the Bucs as 10-point road favorties.

As a single-digit favorite, the Saints are a perfect 5-0 against the spread and three of those victories came on the road in Philadelphia, Buffalo, and Miami. Very impressive.

When you think about the Saints, you automatically think Drew Brees and his 22 touchdown passes, but New Orleans really does have offensive balance. Pierre Thomas, Reggie Bush and Mike Bell have combined for 14 rushing touchdowns this year and their team is averaging 154.3 yards/game on the ground.

The Patriots have seven victories and six were in front of the home crowd, so the road hasn’t been that kind to this Patriots team. The Pats are 1-2-1 against the spread this year on the road, and thier lone cover came against the Bucs in London, 35-7.  Their last two losses on the road were kind of embarrassing for the Patriots coaching staff.  In Week 5 the Pats had a 17-7 halftime lead in Denver, then failed to score in the second half and lost 20-17 in overtime. And of course we all remember Week 10 at Indy…not only did the Pats have Fourth and Two Gate, but the Patriots turned the ball over twice in the end zone.  That game should have been a blowout, instead Peyton Manning led the Colts down for the go-ahead touchdown to keep the Colts unbeaten in a 35-34 winner.  Our members still managed the cover as the Pats were getting 2-points.

Amazingly, the Patriots have won 17 straight “regular season” games against the NFC dating back to 2005.  It was Carolina in Week 2 that managed their last regular season upset.

Steelers @ Ravens – Sunday Night NFL Picks Against The Spread

Sunday, November 29th, 2009

The pros at FiveStarPick.com are looking forward to another profitable day in the NFL and tonight’s division rivalry between the Pittsburgh Steelers and Baltimore Ravens will not dissapoint.  Las Vegas sportsbooks list the Ravens as 1-point home favorites with a total of 39.

The Steelers enter this divisional game with the Ravens on a two game losing streak and are currently sitting at 6-4 on the season. The Steelers lost last week, 27-24, in overtime to the Chiefs and it was a game where they out gained Kansas City 515 yards to 282. The Steelers committed 3 turnovers in the loss and deserved to lose.

A huge issue for the Steelers is the health of starting quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. Big Ben suffered a concussion last week and was forced to leave the game. As of right now, Roethlisberger is out for tonight’s game and Dixon will start in his place. The Steelers will be without their impact player on defense as Troy Polamalu is officially out of this game with a knee sprain.

The Steelers still have a solid defense allowing just 18 points a game and they are number one in the league against the run allowing just 69 yards per game and 3.4 yards per rush attempt. Through the air the Steelers are only giving up 9.8 yards per completion.

Baltimore sits at 5-5 on the season and cannot afford many more losses if they are to earn a post-season berth in the AFC. The Ravens have lost 5 of their last 7 decisions and were beaten 17-15 last week by Indy. Starting quarterback Joe Flacco is hitting on 65% of his passes with 19 touchdowns, but also has 13 interceptions on the year. The team has had little production from its receiving corps other than Derrick Mason this season. Running back Ray Rice has carried the load of the teams’ rushes on the ground with 5.0 yards a carry average on the season. The Ravens secondary have had its issues giving up big passing plays as the team allows 11.1 yards a completion ranking 21st in the league.

Packers @ Lions – Thanksgiving Day NFL Picks Against The Spread

Thursday, November 26th, 2009

Happy Thanksgiving to all our members and friends. We all have a tremendous amount to be thankful for this year and we want you to know that we are most thankful for you.  You, the sports betting enthusiast, have made FiveStarPick.com the most dominant sports information site on the planet…and we are very appreciative.  Alright, alright…you’re shedding a tear…we get it.

Las Vegas sportsbooks list Green Bay (6-4 straight up, 5-4-1 against the spread) as a 11-point favorite with a total of 49.

Detroit (2-8 straight up, 2-7-1 against the spread) beat Cleveland last week in a come-from-behind shootout, 38-37, as a three-point home favorite.  The Lions failed to cover the spread, but freshman QB Matthew Stafford completed a one-yard touchdown pass to another rookie, tight end Brandon Pettigrew, as time expired sealing the victory for the Lions.

On the 2nd to last play of the game, Stafford suffered a dislocated left shoulder.  Stafford is listed as “doubtful” for today’s game, so veteran QB Daunte Culpepper will get the start.  It will be his third start of the year. Culpepper has completed 35-of-62 throws for 384 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions.  Another devistating injury for the Lions is WR Calvin Johnson, who is suffering from knee and hand injuries. Johnson is listed as questionable for today’s game.

Green Bay is in a three-way tie with the Eagles and Giants in the NFC wild-card hunt.  The Packers beat San Francisco last week 30-24 as a six-point favorite, but were leading 23-3 at halftime. Aaron Rodgers threw for 344 yards and two touchdowns in the victory, but failed to cash many backers who got the Packers at -6.5.  The line went to 6 just before gametime…yikes. Green Bay’s defense lost two veteran starters for the remainder of the season in cornerback Al Harris and LB Aaron Kampman, both to ACL tears.

Now let’s talk trends…Green Bay is 2-1 against the spread this year as a road favorite with victories at St. Louis (36-17) and at Cleveland (31-3), but they lost 38-28 at Tampa Bay as 9 ½-point favorites.  Detroit is 2-1 against the spread as a home underdog and 2-3 against the spread in their last five home games.

On October 18th, Green Bay destroyed Detroit 26-0 as a 14-point home favorite. Rodgers threw for 358 yards and a pair of TDs and Grant rushed for 90 yards on the day. Stafford was injured that day and did not play, so Dante Culpepper started and threw for 105 yards and three interceptions.

So who covers the spread in this Thanksgiving Day game?  Log on to FiveStarPick.com and find out.  For only ($19.99) you will get today’s games and Friday’s games and you will soon see if our talent for picking college and pro football winners exceeds your expectations.  We are the only sports handicapping service in the business who documents wins and losses and displays them on our homepage for all to see.  It’s because we have nothing to hide…we just win games against the spread.  Join our family today and start your winning streak tonight.

Titans @ Texans – Monday Night Football Picks Against The Spread

Monday, November 23rd, 2009

The pros at FiveStarPick.com are always amped up for Monday Night Football and tonight we preview the H-town rivalry between the old Houston Oilers and the new Houston Texans.  Las Vegas sportsbooks list the Texans as 4.5-point home favorites with a total of 48.

This will not be an easy game to handicap for most bettors as the Titans (3-6 straight up, 4-5 against the spread) have won 3 straight, while the Texans (5-4 straight up, 5-4 against the spread) are coming off a tough loss and are hungry for a win in front of the home crowd on Monday night.

After a 13-3 season last year under Kerry Collins, the Titans opened the year with six straight losses. Titans head coach Jeff Fisher was forced to start the highly paid Vince Young at quarterback by owner Bud Adams and now Tennessee has rattled off three straight wins.  Young has been impressive under center completing 71 percent of his passes for 507 yards and 2 touchdowns since he regained his starting job, but Chris Johnson has been the spark that has kept the offense firing.  Johnson has carried the ball 75 times for 495 rushing yards and six touchdowns during the Titan’s stretch of wins.

Houston, on the whole, has played very well this season. In their last game against the Colts they held their own, losing to Indy as 7 ½-point road dogs, 20-17.  Matt Schaub and Andre Johnson are the anchors of the Texans offense.  Johnson had 10 receptions for 103 yards against the Colts, but hasn’t scored a TD in his last 4 games.

Now let’s talk trends…Houston is 1-3 against the spread at home this year. The Titans are 2-3 against the spread on the road. The home team trend has not meant much in this series going 5-5 against the spread.  The ‘Over’ is 8-2 in the last 10 head-to-head meetings between these two clubs.  The ‘Over’ is 8-3 on Monday Night this season, but the ‘Under’ is on a two-game win streak. The road team is 8-3 against the spread on Mondays.

So who covers the spread in tonight’s Monday Night Football matchup?  It’s very easy to find out.  Try FiveStarPick.com tonight for just ($19.99) and see if our talent for picking college and pro football winners exceeds your expectations.  We are the only sports handicapping service in the business who documents wins and losses and displays them on our homepage for all to witness.  It’s because we have nothing to hide…we just win games against the spread.  Join our family today and start your winning streak tonight.

Steelers @ Chiefs – Winning NFL Picks Against The Spread

Sunday, November 22nd, 2009

The pros at FiveStarPick.com are looking forward to another stellar day in the NFL as we give our members 3 plays on today’s board.  The focus of this preview is the AFC matchup between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Kansas City Chiefs and it has been written by NFL expert analyst Jordan Starling.  Enjoy…

Pittsburgh Steelers @ Kansas City Chiefs — 1 PM/ET

Projected Forecast at Kickoff : Mostly to Partly Cloudy (0% Rain Chance) – High 63 – Winds SSE 5-10 MPH

This matchup on Sunday should prove to be a major one-sided affair. Pittsburgh will roll into Kansas City Sunday to take on a dismal Chiefs team that has seen the bad go to worse in just a week’s time. Just a short time after RB Larry Johnson was released from the team, leading Chiefs WR Dwayne Bowe learned that he will begin the first of a four game suspension handed down by the NFL for violating the league drug policy. To make matters worse, LB Mike Vrabel will be sidelined with a Knee Injury he incurred @ Oakland last week.

Coming into this week’s matchup the Chiefs are ranked 30th overall in the NFL in Total Offense averaging only 264 yards per game. Matt Cassel won’t get much help improving on that number without star WR Dwayne Bowe in the Lineup for Sundays Game against the Steelers, whose stingy 2nd ranked defense only allows 275 YPG, but will play without S Troy Polamalu and DE Travis Kirschke.

While the offense carries their struggles, the Defense doesn’t prove to be much better for Kansas City. They come into this game giving up 376 YPG and will have to find someone good enough to step into the shoes of injured LB Mike Vrabel. The Steelers 9th ranked Offense continues to produce under QB Ben Roethlisberger, and with a bad Kansas City defense gone to worse, look for the Steelers to continue this trend. I look for Pittsburgh’s offense to eclipse the 400 yard mark this week with big outings from WR Heinz Ward, Santonio Holmes and RB Rashard Mendenhall.

Something to keep in mind is Kansas City’s last home game came about a month ago when they hosted the San Diego Chargers. The Chargers destroyed the Chiefs 37-7 in a game in which Kansas City would have been considered “full strength”. The Steelers are ranked higher in Total Offense & Total Defense than the Chargers (18 T.O & 14 T.D).

*Kansas City is 1-4 ATS in their Last 5 Home Games

*Kansas City is 3-7 ATS in their Last 10 Games on Grass

*Kansas City is 1-3 ATS at Home this Season.

*Kansas City is 0-4 SU at Home this Season

Something has to give in this matchup. With the absence of WR Dwayne Bowe and LB Mike Vrabel, I think an already bad Kansas City team will unravel.
