FiveStarPick.com looks forward to the MLB All Star Game every year because it means there is only two more months until the start of football season. But seeing that baseball is America’s pastime, we do what we can to keep your interest through a grueling 160 game season. Today we give our members another MLB All Star Game winner. Here is an amazing stat…FiveStarPick.com is 11-0-1 in money line winners for our membership over the last 12 MLB All Star games. Las Vegas sportsbooks list the American League as -111 money line favorites with the total of 9.5 runs.
It used to be that America really looked forward to the MLB All-Star Game. The best players from the National and American Leagues joined forces to put on a mid summer show. Today, while we still see top shelf players, the buzz circling the All Star Game has been diminished due to interleague play, free agency and performance enhancing drugs. Back in 2003 Bud Selig tried to add some meaning to the contest by awarding Wold Series home-field advantage to the winning club. That’s helped to a degree, but something is still not right.
As far as satisfying our gambling problem is concerned, this is always a tough game to handicap. Should you back the home league? What about riding the side with the league’s best record? Is it really worth playing the total?
If you’re going to be betting just on what you read in history books, then you’ll be wagering on the National League tonight. In the past 79 installments of the “Midsummer Classic,” the Senior Circuit holds a 40-37-2 edge. But looks can be deceiving.
The majority of the NL’s wins in this game came between 1950 and 1987. During that stretch, the National Leaguers posted a 33-6-1 record. I know you’re thinking my math is a bit off there with 40 games being played in 37 years. But there was a stretch there from 1959 and 1962 that there were two games All-Star Games played (one in each league).
Unfortunately for fans of the Senior Circuit, all they have is the past to look at for glory. The American League has won 11 straight exhibitions, with the tie in 2002.
So does the American League or the National League win the 2009 MLB All Star Game? Let the pros at FiveStarPick.com analyze the stats and trends and take some of the pressure off you tonight. This is our life and our living and FiveStarPick.com will take away the guesswork in betting MLB games and provide you with winning MLB Picks that beat the spread and get results. The pros at FiveStarPick.com hit another Money Line winner last night as we gave our members the Yankees over the Twins. Today we switch gears in the American League handicapping tonight’s matchup between the Oakland Athletics and the Boston Red Sox. Las Vegas Sportsbooks list the Red Sox as -167 Money Line favorites with a total of 9.
Tim Wakefield will try to help the Boston Red Sox to a victory in the final game of this three-game series with the A’s. Boston will try to earn back-to-back wins for the first time in nearly two weeks and maintain its slim AL East lead.
In his 17th MLB season and 15th with the Boston Red Sox, Wakefield (10-3, 4.30 ERA) finally is finally an All-Star. His strong first half of the season has included 10 quality starts. One of those came on April 15, when he took a no-hitter into the eighth inning in Oakland, settling for a complete game in Boston’s 8-2 victory. Josh Beckett tied him for the team lead in victories in Tuesday’s 5-2 victory, but tonight the knuckleballer will have a chance to become the AL’s first 11-game winner.
Even after a 7-6, 11-inning loss to Seattle on Friday, the Red Sox are still 12-4 when Wakefield pitches. The right-hander allowed five runs in eight innings against the Mariners, but he’s still 8-0 with a 3.34 ERA in his last 11 home starts dating back to September.

The pros at FiveStarPick.com are back from a much needed vacation and are ready to start a new winning streak in Major League Baseball betting. The focus of today’s preview is the American League matchup between the New York Yankees and the Minnesota Twins. Las Vegas sportsbooks list the Yankees as -127 Money Line favorites with the total of 9.
A winning streak will be on the line for the Minnesota Twins on Tuesday when they battle the New York Yankees at The Metrodome. Ace lefthander CC Sabathia will take the mound for the Yankees to start this game. Sabathia is 7-5 this season with a 3.85 ERA. The Twins will counter Sabathia with Scott Baker. Righthander Baker has a 4.99 ERA to go along with a 6-6 record this season.
Nick Swisher went 3-for-4 with two runs batted in for New York in its 7-6 loss to Toronto on Monday. Toronto cashed as +130 road underdogs as the teams played OVER the 9.5-run total listed by oddsmakers.
The Twins defeated Detroit 6-2 as a -145 favorite on Sunday. The eight runs scored fell UNDER the posted over/under total (9). Nick Blackburn pitched a complete-game seven-hitter, allowing only one earned run for Minnesota and Justin Morneau hit a two-run home run in the win.

The Tampa Bay Rays are in the World Series? The Tampa Bay Rays are favored to win the World Series? Did we read that right? Las Vegas sportsbooks have the Rays listed at -145 favorites to win the World Series (risk $145 to win $100) against a very stacked Philadelphia Phillies team.
The Phillies will be statring 24-year old left-hander Cole Hamels against Rays ace Scott Kazmir tonight at Tropicana Field. Hamels has been dominant throughout the playoffs and the key to the Phillies winning the NCLS, but it was Kazmir who gave Tampa Bay home-field advantage in this matchup. Kazmir was the winning pitcher in the All-Star game after working a scoreless 15th inning. Phillies closer Brad Lidge then gave up the winning run giving the American League home field advantage. Lidge has converted all 46 of his save opportunities – five in the postseason…the All-Star game was his only blown save this year.
Both teams have stacked line-ups and were among the leaders in “Runs Scored” this year. In addition, both teams are young, have speed and great starting rotations.
There are two Rays players to watch in this Series…Evan Longoria and BJ Upton. Longoria had 4 homers and 8 RBIs during the ALCS and Upton has hit 7 homers and driven in 15 runs in 11 playoff games. Only 4 Rays starters have faced Hamels (3-0, 1.23 ERA in postseason) in their carrer and Longoria and Upton aren’t on that list.
Kazmir (1-0, 4.02 in postseason) hasn’t been as dominant as Hamels in the postseason, but a strong Game 5 performance prompted Skipper Maddon to start him in Game 1 of the World Series instead of Shields. Left-handed batters are 3-for-19 (.158) against Kazmir in the playoffs, but lefty-hitting stars Ryan Howard and Chase Utley plan to change that percentage.
So who wins Game 1 of the 2008 World Series? Look no further for the answer. FiveStarPick has been on fire with their American and National League Playoff Picks and the 2008 World Series will be no different. It is so inexpensive to become a member, what are you waiting for? Coming off a ‘run total’ win last night for its members, FiveStarPick.com will be giving out the ‘run total’ winner of tonight’s game between the Philadelphia Phillies and the Los Angeles Dodgers. Las Vegas sportsbooks have favored the Phillies at -118 on the money line (risk $118 to win $100) while the Dodgers are listed at +108 (risk $100 to win $108.) The ‘run total’ is set at 7.5. Vegas obviously is not sure of the outcome of this game, but FiveStarPick.com is certainly confident about the ‘run total’.
Chad Billingsley 1-1, 8.00 Postseason ERA) will get the start tonight for the Dodgers on 4 days rest. Billingsly was pulled after 2 1/2 innings when he gave up 8 hits and 8 runs on just 59 pitches. In tonight’s game he will definately need to watch out for Philly’s left-handed hitters, Howard, Utley and Rollins.
Cole Hamels (2-0, 1.20 Postseason ERA) will get the start tonight for the Phillies. Hamels has recorded 17 strikeouts and only 3 walks. He beat the Dodgers in Game 1 after only giving up 6 hits and 2 runs on 105 pitches.
Now let’s look at some trends. L.A. has gone 9-2 in its last 11 games following a defeat. Philadelphia is 7-1 in their last 8 head-to-head meetings with L.A.. The Phillies are 12-3 in their last 15 games following a day of rest. The Dodgers are 1-10 in their last 11 versus National League East opponents.
