GMAC Bowl Picks – Tulsa vs. Ball State – Who Covers The Spread

Tuesday, January 6th, 2009

FiveStarPick.com looks to increase its stellar college bowl record by giving its members the ATS winner of the GMAC Bowl featuring the Tulsa Golden Hurricanes and the Ball State Cardinas.  Las Vegas sportsbooks list the Golden Hurricanes as 2.5-point favorites with the total listed at 75.

The Cardinals are hoping stud quarterback Nate Davis will return to campus next year, but Coach Brady Hoke has already made his decision to leave the Cards and head out to sunny San Diego to tackle the San Diego State program.  Hoke, posted a 34-38 record over his tenure of six seasons with Ball State, this year going 12-1.  But Stan Parrish, the team’s offensive coordinator, succeeds Hoke after signing a 4-year contract last month with Ball State and feels confident that he can lead the Cardinals to a victory tonight.

This will be a great matchup between two of the nation’s top quarterbacks.  David Johnson is having an outstanding season for the Golden Hurricane (10-3) and ranks among the top 10 in the nation in passing efficiency.  But both Davis and Johnson failed in their respective conference championship games.

Ball State had four fumbles in the MAC title game and cost the Cardinals a shot at a perfect season.  Buffalo returned two fumbles for touchdowns and the other two eventually turned into scores. Davis was also picked off once while throwing a TD pass and unfortunately it came with NFL scouts in the audience.

Johnson threw 5 INTs in the Golden Hurricane’s 27-24 loss to East Carolina in the Conference USA Championship.  Tulsa RB Tarrion Adams has rushed for 1,341 yard and 11 TDs ranking the Golden Hurricanes 8th in the nation in rushing, averaging 254.8 yards per game.  Tulsa is also 2nd in the nation in yards gained with 565.0 yards per game.

College Football Pick Of The Day – Ball State @ Miami Ohio – Who Covers The Spread

Tuesday, November 11th, 2008

FiveStarPick.com will be giving its members the ‘total’ in tonight’s game between the Ball State Cardinals and the Miami Ohio Redhawks.  Las Vegas sportsbooks have listed the Cardinals as 18.5-point road favorites with the total set at 54.

The Ball State Cardinals (9-0 Straight Up, 7-1 Against The Spread) crushed Northern Illinois last week, winning 45-14.  Ball State picked up 25 first downs and star QB Nate Davis completed 18 of 22 passes for 300 yards and 4 TDs. In addition, Davis’ TD-INT ratio is now 19:5. Cardinal RB MiQuale Lewis added 119 yards on the ground and one score on 19 carries.

Miami (OH) (2-7 SU, 3-5 ATS) lost another home game straight up and ATS last Tuesday night to the Buffalo Bulls as 8-point dogs.  The Red Hawks gave up 216 yards on the ground and 222 yards through the air, then four turnovers in the second half were converted into 10 points by Buffalo.  The Redhawks freshman QB Clay Belton is out tonight after injuring his left shoulder against Buffalo last week. Junior Daniel Raudabaugh will get the start in his place. Raudabaugh played in 11 games last season, completing 54.7 percent of his passes, but this will be his first ever start against Ball State.

Now let’s talk trends…The home team has gone 2-8 SU and ATS in this head-to-head series. The dog is 6-4 ATS and the under is 5-0.  Ball State is 7-1 SU and 6-2 ATS as a road favorite since Hoke became coach back in 2003. The Cards are 3-0 SU and ATS as road favorites in 2008.

College Football Pick Of The Day – Northern Illinois @ Ball State – Who Covers The Spread

Wednesday, November 5th, 2008

FiveStarPick.com will be giving its members the ‘total’ in tonight’s game between the Northern Illinois Huskies and the Ball State Cardinals.  Las Vegas sportsbooks have listed Ball State as 9-point favorites with the total set at 47.   The game will be televised on ESPN2 tonight at 8pm.

The Cardinals (8-0 Straight Up, 6-1 Against The Spread) will be dealing with the pressure of an unbeaten season tonight in addition to their longshot hopes of qualifying for a BCS game.  Last week, Ball State won easily over Eastern Michigan, 38-16.  Cardinals QB Nate Davis seemed to struggle against the Eagles completing only 17 of 31 passes for 241 yards and 2 TDs.  They failed to cover the 27-point spread which was their first non-cover of 2008.

Northern Illinois (5-3 SU, 5-2 ATS) hosted Bowling Green last week as 7-point home favorites.  Freshman QB Chandler Harnish went just 5-12 for 45 yards and 2 INTs.  Amazingly, the Huskies came away with a 16-13 win thanks to 2 Mike Salerno field goals in the fourth quarter.  But what the Huskies are really proud of is the top defense in the MAC.  They lead the conference in scoring (13.6 points per game), passing defense (161.6 yards per game) and stopping the run (104.4 YPG).

Now let’s talk trends.  The Cards are 10-3 SU and 8-4 ATS when favored since 2003.  The Huskies are 1-3 SU, but 4-0 ATS in their last 4 as road dogs.  The road team has gone 6-4 SU, but just 5-5 ATS in the last 10 head-to-head meetings between these two teams.

So who covers the spread in today’s game?  Why not let FiveStarPick.com help you with the answer?  Aren’t you tired of getting cold called by services that tell you about their 750,000 star play that’s a guaranteed winner?  Here is a bit of advice…NOTHING is guaranteed when you are betting on sports!  These so called “handicappers” call 500 people on a Saturday morning and give them all a free play; 250 people will get NIU +9 and 250 will get Ball State -9.  After the game ends, they call back the 250 people who won and pitch them on charging thousands of dollars to their credit cards for more guaranteed winners.   We are not your typical sports handicapping service.  We care about our members and we live and die on every play. Why?  Because we are moving thousands of dollars of our own money on the same plays we give you. Gambling on sports is how we make our living.  Do we win every play?  Absolutely not and we will never pretend to.  Our plays are always posted for all to see, including our losing streaks. But by the end of the year we always seem to have a few hundred thousand dollars of the sportsbook’s money in our casino account.  Let us try and do the same for you.  Join our family of winners today and start your winning streak tonight.
