College Football Pick Of The Day – Baylor Bears @ UConn Huskies – Who Covers The Spread

Friday, September 19th, 2008

As Johnny Gill says, “It’s Friday night and I just got paid” and FiveStarPick.com is looking to get all of its members paid tonight.  Baylor (2-1 SU, 1-1 ATS) is listed as a 12 point dog against UConn tonight and money line bettors should find the line at +380 (risk $100 to win $380.)  UConn (3-0 SU, 1-1 ATS) will try to keep its perfect season together as a -480 home money line favorite (risk $480 to win $100.)

After getting stomped by Wake Forest in their home opener as a 12-point dog, Baylor has won back-to-back games against Northwestern St. (51-6) and Washington St. (45-17) as a 6-point home favorite. Their last two wins had a lot to do with true freshman quarterback Robert Griffin. Griffin was a 4-star recruit from Copperas Cove, TX., has been given the nod as the future of Baylor Bear football.

In Griffin’s second start last week against Washington State, he ran for a school-record 217 yards and 2 TDs on 11 carries. Griffin threw for 129 yards, 1 TD and had no interceptions. The Bears finished with 555 yards of total offense and scored 40 points in two consecutive games for the first time since 1994.  Griffin has completed 62.3 percent of his passes for 548 yards with a 4-0 touchdown to interception ratio.

Connecticut last week crushed Virginia (45-10) as an 11-point home favorite. RB Don Brown paced rushed for 206 yards and 3 TDs; Tyler Lorenzen went 13-15 for 129 yards with 1 TD and no interceptions.

Since 2003, the Huskies have been solid as a double-digit favorite going 9-4 against the spread. Since 2002, the Huskies are 14-7-1 ATS as a home chaulk.  Baylor on the other hand is 3-11 against the spread as a double-digit underdog since 2006.

2008 College Football Pick Of The Day – Wake Forest @ Baylor – Who Covers The Spread

Thursday, August 28th, 2008

FiveStarPick.com is so happy that college football is back and tonight’s game between the Wake Forest Demon Deacons and the Baylor Bears will be the start of another winning season.  College football picks are our specialty and with as much parity as there is in college football today, you will definatley need a helping hand come game night.  Read below to see our college football preview of tonight’s game.

The pros at FiveStarPick.com cannot remember the last time Wake Forest opened the season ranked in the top 25, but Coach Jim Grobe believes his team is ready for primetime.  Three years ago, Wake Forest finished dead last in the ACC’s Atlantic Division, but won an improbable ACC title in 2006.  The 2007 season was a so-so year for Coach Grobe as the Deacons finished 9-4; they did however beat the UConn Huskies 24-10 in the Meineke Bowl.

Nine (9) starters will be returning to Wake Forest’s defense in 2008.  Their defence was ranked 28th in the country in 2007 (340.4 yards per game) and it held its final six opponents to 20 points or less.

The offense returns running back Josh Adams and quarterback Riley Skinner.  Adams rushed for just under 1000 yards as a freshman last season and added 11 touchdowns.  Skinner threw for over 2000 yards and 12 touchdowns.

The Baylor Bears’ recent past as a football team has not been as bright.  Baylor was last in the Big 12 South last year and was winless in eight (8) conference games.  Baylor is trying to right the ship with a new coach…Coach Art Briles.  The program is returning nine (9) starters from the nation’s seventh-worst scoring offense (17.9 points per game), and six starters from the eighth-worst scoring defense (37.0).

Briles had been running the program for the Houston Cougars until taking the job in Waco.  Briles took the Cougars to four (4) bowl games and a Conference USA title. The Bears, prior to Briles arrival, couldn’t seem to get out of their own way losing 12 straight against ranked opponents since 1996.
