Alabama @ Arkansas – College Football Picks Against The Spread

Saturday, September 25th, 2010

Congratulations to all our members on another solid win last night in college football as the SMU Mustangs held on to cover the 18-point spread by 1-point over the TCU Horned Frogs 41-24. Tonight, the pros at FivStarPick.com have been crunching stats, trends, key matchups and injury reports to give our members another winner tonight in college football.  The Alabama Crimson Tide are favored by 7- points on the road over the Arkansas Razorbacks. This line is DEAD WRONG!

Alabama (3-0 straight up, 3-0 against the spread) has won 27 straight regular-season games going into tonight’s SEC West rivalry against Arkansas.

The Razorbacks, under Bobby Petrino, hope that their 3-0 SU, 1-1 Against The Spread team can produce one of the biggest wins in school history against the number one team in the country.

The Tide has been blowing out teams so far this seaon with wins over San Jose St. (48-3), Penn St. (24-3) and Duke (62-13).  Their first two wins were without reigning Heisman Trophy winner Mark Ingram.  When Ingram returned last week at Duke, he busted a 48-yard run on his first touch. Ingram eventually finished with nine carries for 151 yards and two touchdowns in the win over Duke.

Arkansas beat up on Tennessee Tech and UL Monroe at home before going on the road to face the Georgia Bulldogs last week. The Hogs jumped out to a 24-10 lead, only to watch the Georgia tie it up late in the fourth quarter. UGA actually had a chance to go ahead before their drive stalled near midfield with a minute remaining.  Georgia punted and Razorback QB Ryan Mallett found Greg Childs streaking down the left sideline for a 40-yard pass to give Arkansas a 31-24 win as a one-point road dog.

Mallett has completed 70 percent of his passes this year for 1,081 yards with a 9/2 touchdown-to-interception ratio.  McElroy, the Tide signal caller, has connected on 71.7 percent of his attempts for 705 yards with a 6/1 TD-INT ratio.

Both QBs have big weapons.  The Hogs’ have D.J. Williams, one of the nation’s premier tight ends with 14 catches for 173 yards.  The Tide has junior WR Julio Jones, who has 15 receptions for 248 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Jones averages 16.5 yards per catch.

When these schools met last season, McElroy threw for 291 yards and three TDs to lead the Tide to a 35-7 victory as a 17.5-point home favorite.

TCU @ SMU – College Football Picks Against The Spread

Thursday, September 23rd, 2010

Congratulations to all our members on a blow-out win last night in college football as the Miami Hurricanes crushed the Pitt Panthers 31-3.  Tonight, the pros at FivStarPick.com have been crunching stats, trends, key matchups and injury reports to give our members another winner tonight in college football.  The Horned Frogs of TCU are favored by 17.5 points on the road over the SMU Mustangs with a total of 55 points. This line is DEAD WRONG!

SMU (2-1 SU, 2-1 Against The Spread) opened the season with a 35-27 loss at Texas Tech, but the Mustangs cashed a ticket as 13-point road dogs. Since that loss, SMU has won two straight games, including a 28-7 win over UAB in Week 2. SMU took the cash against the Blazers as an 11.5-point home favorite.  Running Back Zach Line ran for 122 yards and two touchdowns, while QB Kyle Padron threw for 145 yards, two TD’s and no interceptions.

In Week 3, SMU failed to cover the 24-point home spread against Washington State. Padron connected on 19-of-34 passes for 280 yards and four touchdowns without an interception, while Aldrick Robinson had four receptions for 111 yards and three TDs.

Texas Christian (3-0 straight up, 1-1 against the spread) opened the season at Cowboys Stadium, beating Oregon St. 30-21 as a 13.5-point favorite. The Horned Frogs gained 453 yards compared to the 255 yards gained by the Beavers. TCU quarterback Andy Dalton threw two picks, but he did rush for a pair of scores, while throwing a TD pass to Jeremy Kerley. Ed Wesley gained 134 yards on 17 carries with 1 touchdown.

For the season, Dalton has completed 74.6 percent of his throws for 624 yards with a 4/2 touchdown-to-interception ratio. He also has three rushing TDs.  Top wideout Kerley has 13 catches for 134 yards and three TDs including one on the ground.

Since throwing three interceptions in the season-opening loss at Texas Tech, SMU’s Padron has been sensational. In the last two games, he has six TD passes without a pick to improve his TD/INT ratio to 8/3 for the year.

In last year’s meeting, SMU led 7-0 in the second quarter before giving up 25 unanswered points. The Horned Frogs eventually came away with a 39-14 win that wasn’t enough to cash a ticket as 28-point home favorites.

Miami (FL) @ Pittsburgh – College Football Picks Against The Spread

Thursday, September 23rd, 2010

The pros at FivStarPick.com have been crunching stats, trends, key matchups and injury reports to give our members another winner tonight.  The Miami Hurricanes are favored by 3 points over the Pittsburgh Panthers with a total of 50 points.

Pittsburgh was the favorite to win the Big East in the preseason, but the Panthers opened on the road at Utah and it wasn’t good.  Maybe it was the altitude, maybe not.  The result was Pitt losing its national ranking (#15) and tailback Dion Lewis dropping out of the Heisman conversation to start the year.

It all started with the overtime loss at Utah to open the season; then a very uninspiring win over New Hampshire in which Lewis gained just 27 yards on 10 carries; then 2009 Big East co-defensive player of the year, Greg Romeus, will likely miss the rest of the season after having back surgery; and now running back Jason Douglas and offensive lineman Keith Coleman were suspended indefinitely after being arrested for a DUI and aggravated assault respectively.  Not a good start to the year.

Coach Randy Shannon is hoping his team to get his team headed back in the right direction after a big loss at Ohio State.  Miami squandered some big opportunities in their 36-24 defeat at OSU in which QB Jacory Harris was intercepted four times, a career-high for the junior.

The Panthers will look to Lewis, and his backup Ray Graham, to drive the offense but they will need help from QB Tino Sunseri who is starting just his third collegiate game .

If Jacory Harris can eliminate mistakes, and get the ball to WR’s Leonard Hankerson and LaRon Byrd, then Miami can pile up points at a fast clip. Already this season the Hurricanes have four touchdown drives that have lasted less than two minutes, including one against Ohio State.

Pittsburgh and Miami haven’t played since 2003, but the Hurricanes are on a six-game winning streak in this series. The Panthers are 1-10 against ranked, non-conference opponents since 1996.

California @ Nevada – College Football Picks Against The Spread

Friday, September 17th, 2010

The pros at FivStarPick.com have been crunching stats, trends, key matchups and injury reports to give our members another winner tonight.  The California Golden Bears are favored by 3.5 points over the Nevada Wolfpack with a total of 65.5.

As of Thursday morning, most books were listing California (2-0 SU, 1-0 Against The Spread) as a three-point road favorite with a total of 66.  This line should continue to move up until game time.

Nevada (2-0 SU, 1-0 Against The Spread) has lost seven straight games against BCS teams by an average margin of 22 points per game. Since 2005, the Wolf Pack is winless Against The Spread in three home games versus BCS competition.

Nevada is led by senior quarterback Colin Kaeparnick, who put up more than 400 yards and four touchdowns in last week’s 51-6 win over Colorado St. The Wolf Pack easily cashed while laying 24.5 points. Kaepernick went 21-of-29 for 241 yards and two TDs with no interceptions. He also rushed 161 yards and two scores on 11 carries.  The Pack totalled 631 total yards against the Rams. Senior RB Vai Taua rushed 15 times for 118 yards and one TD.

Cal opened up their season with a 52-3 embarassment of UC Davis.  Then, the Bears crushed Colorado, 52-7.  Cal scored the first 31 points against the Buffaloes and never looked back.  Senior QB Kevin Riley threw for 197 yards and four touchdowns. He has zero interceptions this year and seven TD passes. The Bears D also played well scoring a pair of TDs off of two interceptions.

Now let’s talk trends…Chris Ault’s Nevada team has compiled a 4-6 against the spread record in 10 games as a home underdog.  Cal owns an 11-15 against the spread record in 26 games as a road favorite during Coach Tedford’s nine-year tenure.

West Virginia @ Marshall – College Football Picks Against The Spread

Thursday, September 9th, 2010

Congratulations to all our members on a solid cash last night with the Auburn Tigers -1.5.  The pros at FivStarPick.com are hard at work again today crunching stats, trends, key matchups and injury reports to give our members the against the spread winner of West Virginia at Marshall.  The Mountaineers  are favored by 12-points over the Marshall Thundering Herd with a total of 46.5.

Since 2006 West Virginia has gone 3-1 against the spread against Marshall, winning by margins of 32, 25, 24 and 17.

The WVU squad might not be as good as the they have been over the last few seasons, but they do still have some horses in the stable. Running back Noel Devine is the star on offense and he showed that in last week’s 31-0 stomping of Coastal Carolina with 111 yards and one touchdown.

Geno Smith is the new WVU signal caller and he completed 20-of-27 passes for 216 yards and two touchdowns. Geno Smith is no Pat White in the fact that he’s not much of a runner, carrying four times for six yards last week, but he can throw the ball down field and has the touch of a pervert.

Defensively, the Mountaineers held Coastal Carolina to 186 yards and only nine first downs. Most would expect a tougher test tonight against the Thundering Herd, but I think we can all agree that The Herd looked terrible against Ohio State last Thursday.

The Buckeyes crushed The Herd 45-7 and held Marshall to 199 yards on offense and just 11 first downs. QB Brian Anderson saw most of the action and he completed 17-of-28 passes for 135 yards and an interception. The lone touchdown for the Herd came on a blocked field goal return.

Last year, WVU went 3-3 against the spread on the road, but only 1-3 against the spread as a double digit favorite. Marshall was 2-3 against the spread at home last season.  For you total players, clear skies and temperatures in the low seventies are expected at kickoff.  Could be a great night for scoring, but we just don’t know which Marshall will show up.  The free advice for tonight is to stay away from the Total.
