Jets @ Colts – AFC Championship Game Against The Spread

Sunday, January 24th, 2010

The pros at FiveStarPick.com are looking forward to another winning day in the NFL postseason. Today we are hot on the AFC Championship game between the New York Jets and the Indianapolis Colts.  Las Vegas sportsbooks list the Colts as 7-point home favorites with a total of 39.

The Colts (15-2 straight up, 10-4-1 against the spread) held onto a 15-10 lead over the Jets in Week 16 with just over five minutes left in the third quarter when they decided to pull their starters. Backup quarterback Curtis Painter was sacked by Calvin Pace, fumbled, and Marques Douglas ran the ball back for the go-head touchdown. The Jets (11-7 SU, 11-7 Against The Spread) won the game as 4-point road ‘dogs, 29-15.

Oh the irony. If the Colts had kept in their starters and won that game, the Jets would have been virtually eliminated from the playoff picture.  Now, Peyton Manning has to beat the Jets to get to the Super Bowl.  So cool.

New York has the best rushing offense in the NFL averaging 172.3 yards per game and Shonn Greene has been impressive in the playoffs with 263 rushing yards and two scores. The Jets have needed their rushing game to have a chance with Mark Sanchez under center. Sanchez has completed 63.2 percent of his passes for 282 yards and 2 touchdowns in the playoffs, but the rookie only had 23 pass attempts against the Chargers, completing 12 of them for 100 yards.  Sanchez has only five games this year where he has thrown the ball more than 30 times.

Sanchez should be pretty nervous today, because the Colts defese is playing with high intensity right now.  The Colts gave up just 87 yards on the ground and 183 through the air to Baltimore, winning 20-3 as 6.5-point home favorites.  Joe Flacco was picked twice in the final two minutes of the game.  The Colts are 14th in the league against the pass, giving up just 212.7 YPG.  Sanchez figured that out quickly as he only threw for 106 yards against them in Week 16. The Colt’s achilles heel is defending against the run. Indianapolis has the NFL’s 24th-ranked rush defense, allowing 126.5 rushing YPG.

What the Colt’s do have is the best quarterback the league has ever seen in Peyton Manning.  Manning has a relatively new receiveing corp since his last Super Bowl win, but he’s still getting major contribution out of Reggie Wayne (100 receptions, 1,264 yards, 10 TD) and Dallas Clark (100 catches, 1,106 yards, 10 TD).  He is also getting great performances out of second-year wideout Pierre Garcon (47 rec., 765 yards, 4 TD) and rookie Austin Collie (60 rec., 676 yards, 7 TD).

Indy needs the passing game to click because the Colts are the worst running attack in the NFL, gaining 80.9 YPG on the ground.  Joseph Addai has 828 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns and Donald Brown has 281 yards on the ground with three scores, but that’s it.

Success for the Colts on offense is definitely not a lock today. The Jets are giving up 312.5 YPG in the playoffs right now and Darrelle Revis anchors the best pass defense in the league with an average of 153.7 YPG during the regular season.

Recent history for the AFC Title Game shows the favorites have gone 4-3 Against The Spread in the last seven games. The ‘over’ has gone 5-2 in that stretch as well.

Ravens @ Colts – AFC Divisional Playoff Picks Against The Spread

Friday, January 15th, 2010

The pros at FiveStarPick.com are looking forward to another winning day in the NFL postseason. Today we are hot on the AFC Divisional Playoff game between Baltimore Ravens and the Indianapolis Colts.  Las Vegas sportsbooks list the Colts as 6.5-point home favorites with a total of 44.

Baltimore (10-7 SU, 9-7-1 Against The Spread) went on the road to Foxborough and whupped up on the Patirots, 33-14, as a 3-point dog. Ray Rice busted an 83-yard touchdown run on the first play of the game and the Ravens never looked back.  As a matter of fact, the Ravens were up 24-0 before the end of the first quarter. The Patriots could get no closer than 14 points for the rest of the game.

The Ravens ground attack set the tone for this game.  Ray Rice finished the day with 159 rushing yards and a pair of touchdowns on 22 carries, while Willis McGahee added 62 rushing yards and one touchdown.  Joe Flacco’s was kind of a non-factor completing only 4-of-10 throws for 34 yards and one interception.

Indianapolis (14-2 straight up, 10-5-1 Against The Spread) decided to rest its starters in the last two games of the regular-season after wrapping up home-field advantage throughout the playoffs.  The result was wins for both the Jets and Bills franchises; and a playoff birth for the Jets.

Manning had another incredible year capturing his fourth MVP trophy. For the season, Manning completed 68.8 percent of his passes for 4,500 yards and a 33/16 touchdown-to-interception ratio.

Reggie Wayne and Dallas Clark are Peyton’s top two targets and both caught 100 balls with 10 touchdowns apiece. Wayne had 1,264 receiving yards, while Clark had 1,106 receiving yards. RB Joseph Addai racked 828 rushing yards and 10 TDs.

The Colts have covered the number in their last six head-to-head meetings with the Ravens. When these teams met earlier this year, Indy won on the road, 17-15, as a one-point favorite.

Indy is just 3-4-1 Against The Spread at home this year, but 7-3-1 Against The Spread as single digit favorites. Baltimore is 3-2-1 Against The Spread as a dog on the road.

CBS will broadcast the kickoff in this game at 8:00 p.m. Eastern.

Colts @ Jaguars – Thursday Night NFL Football Picks Against The Spread

Thursday, December 17th, 2009

It’s Thursday Night, the holidays are fast approaching and the pros at FiveStarPick.com will be in the war room today crunching stats, trends and injury reports for tonight’s game in Jacksonville.  The Jaguars will have a lot to play for tonight as Indianapolis (13-0 straight up, 9-3-1 against the spread) will comes to Alltel Stadium. Las Vegas sportsbooks list the Colts as 3-point road favorites with a total of 43 which has been adjusted drastically from the 6 ½-point opening line on Monday with a total of 46 ½.

The Indianapolis Colts stayed perfect this past week by beating Denver 28-16 as a 6 ½-point home favorite. The Colts were up 21-0, but gave up 16 unanswered points that put the Broncos in position for a backdoor cover.  But then Manning led his high powered offense on a 14-play, 80-yard drive capped off by a one-yard touchdown pass to Dallas Clark with 2:25 remaining.

Jacksonville (7-6 SU, 5-8 against the spread) at the moment is in the playoffs as they have the tiebreaker over the Jets, Dolphins and Ravens.  The Jags had won four of their last five games before losing to Miami this past Sunday, 14-10, as 2.5-point home favorites. Garrard was less than stellar completing only 11-of-26 through the air for 139 yards and no TDs.  Jones-Drew rushed the ball 18 times for 59 yards and one touchdown.

But will the Colts pull their starters tonight?  Jim Caldwell told the Associated Press, “We’re going to approach the 14th game exactly like we did one through 13. We’ve got a great rhythm in terms of our preparation and we’re going to go out and play it just like we have done the previous 13.”

Peyton Manning has completed 68.1 percent of his passes for 3,905 yards with a 29/14 touchdown-interception ratio this year and Reggie Wayne has caught 87 balls for 1,078 yards and 9 touchdowns. Dallas Clark has 82 catches for 902 yards and eight TDs.  But will they play tonight???  We are working on that answer as I type.

Now let’s talk trends… Jacksonville has won twice this season as a home dog beating Tennessee and Houston in both spots.  Having said that, the Jags are just 2-5 against the spread at home despite winning five of their seven games. Indy is 6-0 both SU and against the spread on the road this year.  In their last meeting, the Colts beat the Jags 14-12, but the Jags covered the spread as 6.5-point road dogs. The ‘under’ has cashed in four consecutive Jacksonville games.  The ‘under’ is 7-6 overall for the Colts, 3-3 on the road.

NFL Sunday Night Football Pick – Colts @ Titans – Who Covers The Spread

Sunday, October 11th, 2009

The pros at FiveStarPick.com had a monster Saturday in College Football going 6-2 against the spread for our members.  Tonight we are focused on the Sunday Night Football Game featuring the Indianapolis Colts and the Tennessee Titans. Las Vegas sportsbooks list the Colts as 3.5-point road favorites with a total of 44.5.

The Titans opened the season with a road loss in Pittsburgh, 13-10.  They had every chance to win that game, but even though it was the first game of the season, it set the tone for the weeks to follow.  Since that loss, they’ve been beaten by the Texans, Jets and Jaguars and now find themselves in a position they haven’t seen in a while…an 0-4 start.

Injuries have taken their toll on the Titans’ secondary. Safety Vincent Fuller is out until November and cornerbacks Cortland Finnegan and Nick Harper are both listed as questionable for tonight’s game. Those injuries might be the reason why the Titans went from giving up 199.8 passing yards per game last season to a league worst 282.3 YPG so far in 2009.  Then take away Albert Hainesworth and you have yourself an issue.

It is going to be a tough task to stop Indy (4-0 SU, 3-0 against the spread). The Colts are sixth in scoring offense (26.5 points per game) and lead the league in passing offense (334.0 YPG).  Stats like those make you figure out reall quick why Manning leads the league with a 114.5 QB rating.  And he doesn’t have Marvin Harrison or Anthony Gonzalez as targets.  Dallas Clark, Pierre Garcon (10 receptions, 207 yards, 2 TD) and Austin Collie (12 receptions, 131 yards, 1 TD) are picking up the slack for the Colts in a big way.  The Colts’ have scored 11 touchdowns in their last three games.

Indianapolis has dominated this series with a 7-3 SU mark, but they’re just 5-5 against the spread. The Titans have gone 5-1 against the spread in the last six meetings.

Monday Night Football Picks – Colts @ Dolphins – Who Covers The Spread

Monday, September 21st, 2009

The pros at FiveStarPick.com are coming off a sizzling weekend of college and pro football as we have given our members winners in 10 of our last 12 picks against the spread.  Tonight will be no different as we handicap the Monday Night Football matchup between the Indianapolis Colts and the Miami Dolphins.  Las Vegas sportsbooks list the Colts as 3-point road favorites with a total of 42.

The Colts didn’t look great in their 14-12 victory over the Jaguars last Sunday but they did get head a win. Peyton Manning was efficient (28-of-38 for 301 yards) and Wide receiver Reggie Wayne (10 catches, 162 yards) became the main option for Manning after Anthony Gonzalez went down early with a knee injury early in the game.  Gonzalez could miss up to eight weeks, so the Colts signed WR Hank Baskett who was cut by the Eagles last week.  Jacksonville lost at 31-17 at home on Sunday to Arizona, so it’s hard to tell if the Colts’ defense is any good, especially without the duties of safety Bob Sanders.

Miami looked like shit last week on the road in Atlanta and lost 19-7 . The Dolphins’ offense (259 yards) struggled from the start and they failed to convert on third downs (4-of-11) all game long.  Plus, the Fins had four costly turnovers. Defensively, the Dolphins were great against the run (68 yards) but QB Matt Ryan (229 yards, 2 TDs) crushed the Fins secondary.

The Dolphins’ secondary will be on the ropes again this week as Peyton Manning tests rookiesVontae Davis and Sean Smith.  Even though Manning will be shorthanded without the crafty Gonzalez, tight end Dallas Clark could roam the middle freely like the Falcons’ Tony Gonzalez (5 catches, 73 yards) did last Sunday.

Indianapolis went 6-3 SU on the road last year but was only 2-3-1 ATS as a road favorite.

So who covers the spread in tonight’s Monday Night Football matchup?  It’s very easy to find out.  Try FiveStarPick.com tonight for just ($19.99) and see if our talent for picking college and pro football winners exceeds your expectations.  We are the only sports handicapping service in the business who documents wins and losses and displays them on our homepage for all to witness.  It’s because we have nothing to hide…we just win games against the spread.  Join our family today and start your winning streak tonight.
