Duke vs. Butler – NCAA Championship Game Picks Against The Spread

Monday, April 5th, 2010

Few experts, including us, felt the Blue Devils were going to be playing for the national title in Indianapolis this season. They lost by double digits at North Carolina St. on January 20th and got pumeled at Georgetown this season, but Krzyzewski’s team has turned it on after winning the ACC Tournament. Duke failed to cover the spread in all three of those games, but the Blue Devils have now covered in all five of their NCAA Tournament games.

Jon Scheyer, Kyle Singler and Nolan Smith crushed West Virginia, 78-57, and hooked our members up as 2-point favorites.  The ‘over’ hit when the 135 combined points eclipsed 131-point closing total.

Scheyer scored 23 points while dishing out six assists and had zero turnovers. Singler score 21 points, grabbed nine rebounds and dished out five assists. Smith also finished with 19 points, with six assists to zero turnovers.  What’s more, Duke set a Final Four record by bottoming 13 attempts from 3-point range. The WVU defense could not recover.

On the other side of the bracket, Butler beat Michigan St. 52-50 in a real defensive battle. Even though the Bulldogs had to play at crunch time without two of its best players in Matt Howard (concussion) and Shelvin Mack (thigh cramps), they collected the victory thanks to Gordon Hayward’s mad skills.

Hayward scored 10 of his team’s first 11 points, knocking down his first four shots.  He would go on to finish with 19 points, nine rebounds, two steals and a pair of blocked shots. His money ball at the 1:40 mark put the Bulldogs ahead by a 50-46 score, and he sealed the victory by rebounding an intentional miss by Michigan St. at the foul line with two ticks left.

Las Vegas sportsbooks opened Duke (34-5 straight up, 23-12-2 against the spread) as a five-point favorite with a total of 129. However, the number was up to 7 ½ at most spots as of early this morning.

College Basketball Pick Of The Day – Duke @ Wake Forest – Who Covers The Spread

Wednesday, January 28th, 2009

FiveStarPick.com had a split decision last night as Lebron James and the Cavs missed out on a sure home court cover as 13-point favorites.  The Kings kept it close in a 117-110 loss.  Purdue covered, but the night ended up like kissing your sister.  We hate that!  Today we are previewing tonight’s ACC matchup between two of the nation’s top 10 teams as the Duke Blue Devils make the short road trip to Winston-Salem to take on the Wake Forest Demon Deacons.  Las Vegas sportsbooks list the Dukies as 1-point road favorites with the total currently hovering around 152.

Duke (18-1 straight up, 11-7 against the spread) crushed Maryland Saturday as a 15.5-point home favorite, 85-44. The Blue Devils are now 3-1 ATS in their last 4 outings with that victory and the Under is 5-1-1 in their last seven.  The Blue Devils are 5-1 SU and 4-2 ATS on the road, but Duke’s lone loss of the season occurred at Michigan December 6th when they lost 81-73 as a 10-point road favorite.

Wake Forest (16-1 SU, 8-5 ATS) fell to Virginia Tech last Wednesday as a 13-point home favorite, 78-71. That loss broke a five-game winning streak ATS. The combined 149 points went over the 144-point closing total, ending back-to-back Under outings.

Now let’s talk trends…Wake Forest is 8-1 SU at home but just 3-2 ATS, winning those affairs by an average score of 84-62. Duke and Wake Forest have split the last two meetings SU and ATS, with the home team prevailing each time.
