Cincinnati vs. Florida – AllState Sugar Bowl Picks Against The Spread

Thursday, December 31st, 2009

Happy New Year to all our members and congratulations on another winning season.  It’s now 2010 as the Bowl Season continues and the pros at FiveStarPick.com have been working overtime to analyze tonight’s AllState Sugar Bowl between the Cincinnati Bearcats and the Florida Gators.  Las Vegas Sportsbooks list Florida as 13-point favorites with a total of 62.

Earlier this month, Cincinnati and Florida both were unbeaten and jockying for the chance at a spot in the national championship game.  Now both clubs are in turmoil as two of the nation’s premier coaches in Brian Kelly and Urban Meyer have caused college football chatrooms and ESPN analysts to act like gossip hunters on TMZ.  First the news that Kelly was leaving Cincinnati to take the head coaching job at Notre Dame and then a breaking story that Meyer might not make it to his 46th birthday due to a heart condition.

So then the announcement that Steve Adazzio is now UF’s interim head coach, while Jeff Quinn takes over the reigns for the Bearcats tonight.  To add to the drama, Quinn was just named the new head coach at Buffalo, so he’s bailing n Cincy after the game.  Then you have the story line of new Cincinnati head coach Butch Jones who was hired just days after Kelly announced his departure for South Bend.  Jones has said he plans to retain only one assistant currently on the Bearcats’ staff.  Then you have a story about UF defensive coordinator Charlie Strong being named the new head coach at Louisville and Billy Gonzalez, UF’s wide receivers coach and recruiting coordinator, announce he is leaving UF to help out Les Miles at LSU.

Oh the drama which is college football…

Florida’s national championship hopes were crushed in the Georgia Dome earlier this month when Alabama took them to the woodshed with a 32-13 victory as a 5-point dog.  Florida had not given up more than 20 points (Arkansas) all year long and tonight will face a Bearcat offense with some firepower. In addition, the Gators will be without defensive starter in LB A.J. Jones (knee), however DE Carlos “DUI” Dunlap has been reistated for tonight’s game.  The big question on everyone’s mind here inVegas is whether or not Florida will suffer from a SEC Championship hangover. Only time will tell.

Cincinnati (12-0 SU, 6-6 Against The Spread) continued their unbeaten regular season by rallying in the final seconds to beat Pitt, 45-44.  Pitt took a 44-38 lead with 1:30 left in the fourth quarter, but Tony Pike threw a touchdown pass in the corner of the endzone to Armon Binns on a double move with 33 seconds remaining.

Pike finished his injury plagued season with a 26/6 touchdown-to-interception ratio and has one of the country’s top wide receivers in Mardy Gilyard.  The NFL scouts will be watching Gilyard a lot tonight as he will be matched up against UF junior CB Joe Haden, another projected early first-round pick.  Gilyard has a team-high 80 receptions for 1,150 yards and 11 touchdowns.

Now let’s talk trends…Obviously the Bearcats do not have the same strength of schedule the Gators have, but they beat Oregon St., 28-8, as one-point road favorites. Other notable wins included a 49-36 win over Illinois and 28-20 home win over Fresno St.

Florida was a double-digit favorite in every game they played except the Alabama game and ended the regular season with a 6-5 against the spread record.  The Bearcats were underdogs just once in 2009 beating Rutgers 47-15 as 4.5-point ‘dogs in their season opener.  Cincy was 6-6 in their over/under campaign, while the ‘under’ was 8-4 overall for the Gators.

Florida vs. Alabama – SEC Championship Picks Against The Spread

Saturday, December 5th, 2009

Its Championship Saturday and the pros at FiveStarPick.com are pumped about today’s SEC Championship game between the #1 Ranked Florida Gators and the #2 Ranked Alabama Crimson Tide.  Las Vegas sportsbooks list the Gators as 5.5-point favorites with at total of 43.

Alabama (12-0 SU, 7-5 ATS) is fresh off a 26-21 road win at Auburn as 10-point favorites. The Tide were looking like they were going to go down, but somehow rallied and took the lead in the final minute on QB Greg McElroy’s 4-yard touchdown pass to Roy Upchurch.  Heisman candidate Mark Ingram definately hurt his chances for the award with a 30 yard performance on 16 carries.  McElroy, on the other hand, showed some confidence completing 21-of-31 passes for 218 yards and 2 TDs.

McElroy had never started a game until this year and played great at the beginning of this season. Then against Tennessee, Ole Miss and LSU, McElroy started looking like a rookie.  Having said that, Nick Saban’s Tide continue to find ways to get the ‘W’. Since then, McElroy has thrown five TD passes with no interceptions.

Florida (12-0 straight up, 6-5 against the spread) has a ”semi-good” quarterback with a Heisman Trophy and a pair of national titles.  Last week in The Swamp Tim Tebow connected on 17-of-21 passes for 214 yards, 3 touchdowns and no interceptions. By the way, he also rushed 15 times for 90 yards and 2 more TDs.

The Gators embarrased FSU, 37-10, as 25-point home favorites. Urban Meyer didn’t want to run up the score on legendary coach Bobby Bowden, so he pulled his starters late in the 3rd quarter and still took them to the wood shed.

On a side-bar…UF lost Junior All-American DE Carlos Dunlap after he was arrested Tuesday morning for DUI. Meyer says he is out for today’s game, but might re-instate him for the National Title Game should he prove his worth over the next few weeks. Dunlap was named the Defensive MVP of last year’s win over Oklahoma in the BCS Championship Game and he lead the SEC in sacks in 2008.  Needless to say he will be sorely missed.

Florida vs. Georgia – Winning College Football Picks Against The Spread

Saturday, October 31st, 2009

The pros at FiveStarPick.com are back in action today as we give our members the winner of “The World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party.”  The Georgia Bulldogs will travel to Jacksonville to take on the #1 Ranked Florida Gators and Las Vegas sportsbooks list the Gators as 15.5-point favorites with at total of 49.5.

This year Florida (7-0 SU, 2-3 ATS) will try to hold on to their #1 spot and work toward another National Championship, while Georgia (4-3 SU, 2-5 ATS) would love nothing more than to be spoilers in this spot.  A victory for Urban Meyer would lock up a spot in the SEC Championship, his third in the last four seasons.  However, the Gators offense hasn’t been clicking like the 2008 squad, so opposing defenses have been getting a steady dose of Tim Tebow.  The defense is coming off a performance of four sacks and three interceptions against Mississippi State. Florida has won three of the last four meetings between these two teams (2-2 against the spread), including a 49-10 blowout win last year to avenge the 2007 team Georgia end zone dance.

This game is not an easy game to handicap, but the pros at FiveStarPick.com have broken down every stat, trend, injury report and weather forcast on this game to provide our members with a winning play.  Try FiveStarPick.com today for only ($19.99) and see if our talent for picking college and pro football winners exceeds your expectations.  We are the only sports handicapping service in the business that documents our wins and losses, then displays them on our homepage for all to see.  It’s because we have nothing to hide…we just win games against the spread.  Join our family today and start your winning streak tonight.

Arkansas @ Florida – Winning College Football Picks Against The Spread

Friday, October 16th, 2009

The pros at FiveStarPick.com are coming off another great win last night as Pitt covered the 6-point spread on the road at Rutgers. That makes it a cool 12-1 against the spread in our last 13. Today should be no different as we give our members new winners in three (3) lined affairs.  The focus of this preview is the 3:30pm game on CBS where the top-ranked Florida Gators(5-0 SU, 2-1 Against The Spread) take on the Arkansas Razorbacks (3-2 SU, 2-2 Against The Spread).  Las Vegas sportsbooks list the Gators as 25-point home favorites with a total of 58.

With or without QB Tim Tebow, Florida has dominated the Razorbacks in this series. UF has won and covered their last seven in a row against Arkansas and by big margins. Last year, the Gators beat Arkansas 38-7 as 26 ½-point road favorites and this season, the Gators own the best defense in the country (202 YPG, 6.4 PPG).

But if there is a team that might challenge the #1 team in the country, then this year’s Arkansas Razorbacks might be the team.  The Hogs are putting up staggering numbers averaging 451 YPG and 37 PPG on the season. The only game they have struggled with was at Alabama, losing 35-7.  Florida is 11-3 Against The Spread as home favorites in their last three seasons.

Five Star College Football Picks – Who Covers The Spread – Florida @ LSU

Saturday, October 10th, 2009

The pros at FiveStarPick.com are looking forward to another winning Saturday in college football.  Today we will be giving our members several plays on the board, but the focus of today’s preview is the SEC showdown in Baton Rouge between the Florida Gators and the LSU Tigers.  Las Vegas sportsbooks list the Gators as 7.5-point road favorties with a total of 43 and that line will continue to fluctuate until the big question is anwered…Will Tim Tebow play?

The last time the Gators came to Baton Rouge as the No. 1 team in the country was in 1997.  Steve Spurrier abandoned the Fred Taylor rushing attack and gave QB Doug Johnson 50-plus pass attempts.  Kevin Faulk lit it up for LSU and the Tigers were able to pull out a 28-21 upset.

Meyer has lost both games at Tiger Stadium since taking over for Ron Zook at UF.  In 2005, LSU captured a 21-17 victory, but the Gators again hooked up their backers as 6-point dogs.

During UF’s bye week, Tebow didn’t practice, but underwent a series of post-concussion tests with the school’s medical staff. He returned to practice on Tuesday and Wednesday, but wore a non-contact jersey.  Meyer says Tebow’s status will be a gametime decision.

LSU (5-0 SU, 2-2-1 ATS) returns home after beating Georgia, 20-13.  Scott, LSU’s stud running back rushed 19 times for 95 yards and a pair of touchdowns, including the game winner from 33 yards out with :46 remaining on the clock. During the Les Miles era, LSU has only been a home dog once…when Nick Saban made his return to Tiger Stadium and led Alabama to a 27-21 overtime win as a 3-point favorite.

So who covers the spread tonight?  It’s very easy to find out.  Try FiveStarPick.com tonight for only ($19.99) and get all of our Saturday action plus our Sunday NFL winners.  Come see if our talent for picking college and pro football winners exceeds your expectations.  We are the only sports handicapping service in the business who documents wins and losses and displays them on our homepage for all to see.  It’s because we have nothing to hide…we just win games against the spread.  Join our family today and start your winning streak tonight.
