FedEx BCS Championship Game Picks – Florida vs. Oklahoma – Who Covers The Spread

Thursday, January 8th, 2009

Well, this is it!  The college football season has come to an end and FiveStarPick.com is very sad to see it go.  The FedEx BCS Championship game will feature the nations top two scoring offenses in the Florida Gators and the Oklahoma Sooners.  Las Vegas sportsbooks list the Gators as 5-point favorites with the total currently at 70.

By the end of the FBS season, 7 teams had one loss at the top of the rankings; two more were undefeated.  What was the BCS to do?  They definately got it right this year with Oklahoma and Florida.  Each team sent a Heisman candidate to the podium in New York and one came away with the hardware.

Led by Tim Tebow, the Gators rebounded from their only loss (Ole Miss) to dominate their next 9 games.  In addition, they scored more than 49 points a game, then topped it off with a 31-20 victory over Alabama on Saturday for the SEC title.

Sam Bradford did the same for Oklahoma. The Sooners lost 45-35 to Texas in October, but still ended up with an NCAA-record 702 points this season. They ended the season by becoming the first team since 1919 to score 60-plus in five straight games.

This will be the first meeting between these two programs, each seeking their second national title this decade.  Florida was on the way up and Oklahoma was on the way down back in 1998, when Bob Stoops decided to leave as Gators defensive coordinator and take his first head-coaching job with the Sooners.  In 2000, Stoops helped Oklahoma to its 7th national title.   Still, when Steve Spurrier left Florida a year later, many Gators thought Stoops’ return was a lock.  But Stoops turned down the Gator job and they hired Ron Zook, then Urban Meyer.  Myer is trying for Florida’s second title in 3 seasons.

The Sooners rank No. 1 in scoring, averaging 54 points a game. The Gators are third, averaging 45.2 points.  Both teams are among college’s passing elite. Oklahoma is first, scoring 49 touchdowns through the air, with quarterback Sam Bradford accounting for all but one.  Bradford, third individually, has averaged 10.1 yards per pass. He threw six of the team’s seven interceptions en route to a 12-1 record.  Bradford recently had surgery on the left thumb of his non-throwing hand to repair torn ligaments suffered in the first quarter of Oklahoma’s thrashing of Missouri in the Big 12 title game for the second consecutive year. He should be ready to take snaps in practice well before the BCS face-off.

Florida is fifth in passing, with 31 touchdowns. Quarterback Tim Tebow accounted for 28 of those scores and was intercepted only twice. He averaged 9.4 yards a throw as the Gators won 12 of 13 games.

Neither team slacks off when it comes to ground attacks. Florida ranks ninth, averaging six yards a carry, with 41 TDs. Oklahoma is 12th, averaging 4.8 yards, but scored 45 times.

College Football Pick Of The Day – Florida vs. Alabama – Who Covers The Spread

Saturday, December 6th, 2008

Before you read this preview, take a minute to go to our home page and look at our recent plays.  FiveStarPick.com is on another hot streak winning 12 of our last 15 member plays.  For the 2008 season, our dime bettors are up $92,800; and that includes a 10% vig.  Several of our over 2300 members bet $10,000 a game and are up nearly $1 Million Dollars for the year.  Now that’s some real money and we couldn’t be happier for them.  Betting on sports is how we make our living and nothing makes us smile more than to see a sportsbook get rocked.

Today will be no different as we give out several strong member plays including the winner of the SEC Championship between the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Florida Gators.  Las Vegas sportsbooks opened Florida (11-1 straight up, 8-2 against the spread) as an 8.5-point favorite with a total of 50. As of early this morning, most spots had the Gators at 10 with the total set at 52.

The Gators have won 8 in a row by an average of 39.6 points per game. The Gators have averaged 51.7 PPG during this stretch and they have covered the spread in every lined game since their lone loss of the year against non-ranked Ole Miss on Sep. 27.

Alabama (12-0 SU, 9-3 ATS) hasn’t been particularly pretty in their 12 wins, but 9-3 ATS is nothing to sneeze at.  In fact, they have taken the cash in five consecutive games, including last week’s 36-0 win over Auburn as 14.5-point favorites.  The win snapped a six-game losing streak for ‘Bama in the Iron Bowl. Glen Coffee rushed for 144 yards on 20 carries, while Mark Ingram had a pair of scores on 64 rushing yards.

This rushing attack is large in part due to Alabama’s offensive line, who might be the best in the country. Junior OT Andre Smith is a layup for All-American and Senior Antoine Caldwell is one of the SEC’s top centers. Coffee has rushed for 1,235 yards and 9 touchdowns for the season, averaging 6.2 yards per carry. Ingram has 11 rushing TDs and averages 5.4 YPC.  It will be a lot for Florida to prepare for.

Senior QB John Parker Wilson hasn’t been that impressive with a 9/5 touchdown-interception ratio, but he has done everything Nick Saban has asked of him.  The Tide has one of the best wide receivers in the country in freshman Julio Jones, who has 46 receptions for 723 yards and four TDs.

Florida’s offense gets most of the press, but the Gators have one of the nation’s premier defenses. UF is second in the SEC in scoring defense, allowing just 12.2 PPG. This unit is led by All-American middle linebacker Brandon Spikes, who has 80 tackles, 2 sacks and 4 interceptions.

And then there’s Tim Tebow.  The reigning Heisman Trophy winner has an incredible 25/2 TD-INT ratio. He also has 507 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns. UF’s offense goes through Tebow, but he has weapons galore at his disposal in Jeff Demps, Percy Harvin, Chris Rainey and Brandon James.  All are capable of taking it to the house on any given play.

Harvin has scored a touchdown in 14 consecutive games. He has nine rushing TDs and averages 8.8 YPC. Harvin also has a team-high 35 receptions for 595 yards and seven TDs.  Harvin sprained his ankle against the Seminoles and hasn’t practiced all week. UF is hoping he can play and the guess here is that he will. Who knows how effective he will be.

So who covers the spread in today’s game?  Why not let FiveStarPick.com get rid of the guesswork.  For only $99 a month you will get a professional team of handicappers behind you that give you daily plays that beat the spread and get results.  Please note that it is impossible to win every game, but if you only bet our daily plays you will come out way ahead for the year.  We are 120 games over .500 this year, so join today and start winning tonight!

College Football Pick Of The Day – Florida vs. Georgia – Who Covers The Spread

Saturday, November 1st, 2008

This game is what college football is all about.  If you haven’t been to Jacksonville for the Georgia/Florida game, mark it down on your list of things to do before you die.  First of all, it’s the largest cocktail party on the planet and second, the women walking the streets of Jacksonville this weekend will make you wonder why you even thought about having a wife or girlfriend.  But we digress…

Florida (6-1 straight up, 5-2 against the spread) has won their last 3 games both SU and ATS.  In their last 135 minutes of play the Gators have looked unstoppable on offense.  Weirdly enough, they have scored 135 points during that stretch, putting up 51 and 63 on LSU and Kentucky, respectively.  Tim Tebow has been throwing and running for TDs, Percy Harvin is scoring TDs both rushing and receiving and Jeff Demps has been electrifying the Swamp crowd with his dazzling speed.

Georgia (7-1 SU, 3-4) crushed LSU last week 52-38 (a FiveStarPick Win). Moreno rushed for 166 yards including a 68-yard touchdown jaunt late in the third quarter to put the game away. Stafford threw for 2 TDs and ran for a 3rd.  Stafford has passed for 1,946 yards this season with a 12/5 touchdown-interception ratio.  True freshman A.J. Green has 39 receptions for 662 yards and 5 TDs.  Massaquoi has 28 catches for 366 yards and 4 TDs.  Pretty impressive stuff in the SEC.

This will be the 2nd week in a row that UGA will be listed as the underdog.  After covering last week at LSU the Dawgs now own a 10-4-1 spread record as a dog. Urban Meyer is 2-1 against Richt, but the Dawgs are 2-0-1 ATS since Meyer’s arrival at Florida.

So who covers the spread in today’s game?  Why not let FiveStarPick.com help you with the answer?  Aren’t you tired of getting cold called by services that tell you about their 750,000 star play that’s a guaranteed winner?  Here is a bit of advice…NOTHING is guaranteed when you are betting on sports!  These so called “handicappers” call 500 people on a Saturday morning and give them all a free play; 250 people will get Florida -6 and 250 will get Georgia +6.  After the game ends, they call back the 250 people who won and pitch them on charging thousands of dollars to their credit cards for more guaranteed winners.   We are not your typical sports handicapping service.  We care about our members and we live and die on every play. Why?  Because we are moving thousands of dollars of our own money on the same plays we give you. Gambling on sports is how we make our living.  Do we win every play?  Absolutely not and we will never pretend to.  Our plays are always posted for all to see, including our losing streaks. But by the end of the year we always seem to have a few hundred thousand dollars of the sportsbook’s money in our casino account.  Let us try and do the same for you.  Join our family of winners today and start your winning streak tonight.

College Football Pick Of The Day – Florida @ Arkansas – Who Covers The Spread

Friday, October 3rd, 2008
FiveStarPick.com loves Saturdays and this Saturday is no different.  With 8 wins in our last 11 plays, the members of FiveStarPick.com will look to extend their winning streak with FiveStar’s Florida – Arkansas college football pick of the day.

Tim Tebow and the 12th-ranked Gators are coming off one of the worst upsets of the year and Urban Meyer is pissed.  Florida (3-1 SU, 2-2 ATS) was 4th in the AP Top 25 before losing to Mississippi last Saturday and they look to right the ship against a Razorback team that has struggled since losing Darren McFadden to the NFL.

The Razorbacks (2-2 SU, 1-2 ATS) have lost their last two games by a combined 77 points and new head coach Bobby Petrino is doing all he can to instill his philosophy in his first year with the team.

Two-time Heisman hopeful Tim Tebow ran for 2 TDs against Ole Miss and completed 24 of 38 passes for 319 yards, but his offensive line will have to do a better job of protecting him.  Tebow was sacked 3 times and hit 10.  Tebow has been sacked 6 times in 4 games;  He was sacked only 13 times all last year.

Arkansas, meanwhile, got stomped by Texas 52-10 last Saturday.   The Razoracks were held to 191 yards of total offense.  Last year they averaged 160.2 yards on the ground alone.  Razorbacks quarterbacks Casey Dick and Tyler Wilson have been sacked 17 times.  Bobby Patrino…you got some splaining to do.  Petrino comes to Arkansas having lost two straight games as a college coach only twice in his career.  Not to mention, went 41-9 in 4 seasons at Louisville.  He’s not happy… this pick is a lead pipe lock.

So who covers the spread in today’s game?  Become a member today and find out.  FiveStarPick.com loves to handicap college football.  It is our specialty and we have been steadily getting more proficient every year since we got into the business in 1990.  Was that really 18 years ago?  Time flies when you’re making money.  Our membership has jumped from 600 off-season members to over 1900 this football season and it’s for one reason and one reason only…we win!  We are the most accurate sports handicapping service on the net and we will never give you a play that we are not heavily on ourselves.  As a matter of fact, our NFL Picks are so strong that they can move the line up to a full point within seconds of being published to our members.  It’s time to come down off the fence and join for 1 year.  A one year membership is only $99.00 and it will pay for itself in the 1st week.  We are nearly 65% against the spread in 2008 and our forte, College and NFL Football Picks, are just beginning.  You owe it to yourself to discover the benefits of membership.  Join today and start winning tonight.
