MLB Pick Of The Day – Marlins @ Nationals – Who Covers The Spread

Tuesday, September 23rd, 2008
The Florida Marlins are starting to worry about their chances of making playoff run.  After losing the last 2 games of their 3-game weekend, their chances of capturing the wild card got a little harder.  And after losing their makeup game against the Reds on Monday, it’s become nearly impossible.

If there is a silver lining in this it’s that the Marlins get to play the Nationals over the next 3 games who are nearing their 100th loss of the season.  On September 9th, Florida (81-75) was 10 games out of the wild card.  The Marlins then won 9 straight to pull within 4.5 games of the Phillies. The Marlins went to Philadelphia and lost 2 of 3…not good.  Philadelphia’s wins vaulted them ahead of New York in the NL East and brought the Brewers and the Astros further into the chase.

The Marlins start a 3-game series against the league-worst Nationals (58-98) tonight before heading to take on the Mets for their final 3 regular-season games at Shea Stadium.  As bad as Washington has been this season, they have been their worst against the Marlins.  They are 2-13 against the Marlins this year and have been outscored 47-21 at Nationals Park.

Scott Olsen (8-10, 4.20 ERA) will get the start for Florida tonight.  Olsen has won his last 2 starts after going 0-6 with a 5.74 ERA in his last 9 outings.  Olsen is 3-0 with a 3.04 ERA in 4 starts against Washington this season.

Rookie Shairon Martis (0-3, 6.23) will get the start tonight for the Nationals. Martis gave up 6 runs in 3 innings Wednesday losing to the Mets 9-7.

MLB Pick Of The Day – Astros @ Marlins – Who Covers The Spread

Tuesday, September 16th, 2008

FiveStarPick.com is looking hard at tonight’s matchup between the Houston Astros and the Florida Marlins.  Hurricane Ike forced the relocation of their last two games from Chicago to Milwaukee, both of which were lacluster to say the least.  Houston got no-hit by Carlos Zambrano in the opener and lost 5-0, then lost 6-1 on Monday.

The Astros hope to right the ship as hurler Roy Oswalt tries to extend his scoreless innings streak tonight at Dolphin Stadium.  The Astros (80-69) have won 34 of their last 46 games, including 14 of 15 as of last weekend.

Roy Oswalt (15-9, 3.54 ERA) will take the mound tonight for the Stros. The right-hander, who has lasted at least 8 innings in 5 of his last 6 starts, hasn’t allowed a run in 32.33 innings.  Oswalt is 5-3 with a 2.85 ERA in 10 career starts against the Marlins.

The Marlins (77-72) have been on a roller coaster ride most of the second half of the season, but they are still only 5.5 games back in the wild-card race.  Chris Volstad (4-3, 3.31 ERA) will get the start for the Marlins.  In his last outing, the rookie allowed 1 run in 3 innings for a 10-8 win over Philadelphia.  He was hit in the shoulder with a ground ball up the middle and left the game. He has never faced Houston.

MLB Pick Of The Day – Chicago Cubs @ Florida Marlins – Run Totals

Saturday, August 16th, 2008

FiveStarPick.com feels confident about a win in tonight’s game between the Chicago Cubs and the Florida Marlins.  The ‘run total’ is set at 9 runs, but we expect that number to increase before game-time.  For a preview of tonight’s game read below.

The Chicago Cubs are atop the NL Central and tonight look to win their 10th road game in against the Florida Marlins.  Chicago (75-47) used to be terrible away from Wrigley, but something has changed their luck and now they can’t seem to lose.  What’s weird is that until last night, Chicago has not been able to win in Florida.  As a matter of fact, until last night, they had not won a game in Florida since 2005.

The one thing the Cubs seem to do very well is score runs.  They have scored the most runs in the NL at 662 and have scored 76 runs in their last nine road games.  That’s a lot of offense.

Sean Marshall (2-2, 3.55 ERA) will get the start Saturday for Chicago and Anibal Sanchez (1-2, 4.08) will get the start for the Fish.

So does the ‘over’ or the ‘under’ cash in today’s game?  It is real easy to get the answer.  At www.fivestarpick.com you can monitor our daily plays on our homepage and see for yourself if our talent for picking MLB winners exceeds your expectations.  MLB picks are not easy, but FiveStarPick.com’s proprietary sports handicapping software program coupled with two of the top sports handicappers in the business have proven a winning combination at nearly 70% against the spread.  You owe it to yourself to become a member of our family.  Join today and start winning tonight.

MLB Pick Of The Day – Marlins @ Phillies – Run Totals

Wednesday, August 6th, 2008

FiveStarPick.com gave its members and guests the ‘Over’ in the Marlins-Phillies matchup last night and logged another win for the family.  It’s very rare that we give out a free play, but we were feeling frisky yesterday and decided to throw our guest visitors a bone.  FiveStarPick.com continues to like the ‘run total’ in tonight’s matchup between the Florida Marlins and the Philadelphia Phillies.

Anibal Sanchez (1-0, 3.18 ERA) is getting the start tonight for the Marlins.  In his last start, Sanchez crushed the Colorado Rockies 12-2 as a -120 home favorite and the ‘Over’ cashed easily with a 9.5 run ‘run total’.

Philadelphia will start right-hander Kyle Kendrick (9-5, 4.59 ERA) tonight.  Kendrick got a win last Thursday when the Phillies stomped on Washington Thursday 8-4.   The combined 12 runs went ‘over’ the 8 ½ run total for the 4th time in as many starts.

Does the ‘over’ or the ‘under’ cash in today’s game?  FiveStarPick.com has the answer.  At www.fivestarpick.com you can monitor our daily plays on the homepage.  You will quickly see that our talent for picking MLB winners is off the charts.

Tuesday, August 5th, 2008

The Marlins take on the Phillies tonight in a NL East showdown and FiveStarPick.com is hot on the run totals.  Vegas has set the line at 9.5. The Marlins enter the first game of this 3 game series crushing the money line and run totals.  The main reason for so much success…155 homeruns.

The Marlins are scoring almost 5 runs a game this season and giving up almost 5.  So it should be no surprise that the ‘over’ is 63-42-7 in Marlins games this year.  The Phillies bats are nothing to sneeze at either driving in 5 runs per game this season and giving up an average of 4.

Now add to these trends the stats of Marlins’ starter Josh Johnson (1-0, 4.18) and Phillies’ southpaw veteran Jaime Moyer (10-6, 3.79) and you have yourself an Over play.  FiveStarPick.com vary rarely gives away a free play…but every once in a while you have to give back to the community.

And one more free tidbit… The Phillies are a perfect 10-0 in Moyer’s last 10 starts versus the Marlins.

So that’s a lot of useless information I just gave you…or is it?   FiveStarPick.com is the most accurate sports handicapping service on the net and one of the only services that allows non-members to monitor our daily plays on the home page.  Betting on baseball can be difficult, but if you follow our daily plays to the letter, your bookie will pay…and pay dearly.  Join today and start your winning streak tonight.
