Florida State @ North Carolina – Winning College Football Picks Against The Spread

Thursday, October 22nd, 2009

The pros at FiveStarPick.com are looking forward to another winner tonight as the Florida State Seminoles travel to Chapel Hill to take on the North Carolina Tar Heels.  Las Vegas sportsbooks list the Tar Heels as 2.5-point home favorites with a total of 47.

The once proud Seminoles are now a crappy 2-4 on the season and the former Top 10 program that was always competing for National Championships has a defense ranked 107th in the nation.  As a matter of fact, the Noles are now scrambling to win games at home against Jacksonville State.  But they do have some of the hottest chicks on campus…Sorry, back to the preview.

The only positives with the Seminoles this season is that the offense seems to be progressing.  Against Miami, BYU and Georgia Tech, three tough programs, the Seminoles have averaged 44 points and 485 yards of total offense.  Against Jacksonville State, Boston College and South Florida that same unit averaged just 15 points and 367 yards total offense.  Can you say Jekyll and Hyde?

Whatever the reason for the production differences, QB Christian Ponder is one of the best signal callers in college football completing nearly 68% of his passes for 1,781 yards (10th in the nation) and a 9/1 TD-INT ratio. In addition, Ponder is throwing for just under 297 yards a game, the best in the ACC.  He has a number of talented receivers in the lineup including Bert Reed, Richard Goodman and Taiwan Easterling, but the FSU defense can’t seem to ever get off the field to let him do his thing.  As I mentioned earlier, the Seminoles rank 107th in the nation in total defense.  They have no pass rush and there corners couldn’t cover a dead guy in a morgue with a sheet.

But I have to say, North Carolina ain’t much better. What’s interesting is that the Heels have the opposite problems of the Nols.  North Carolina has a horrific offense that ranks 117th nationally, but their defense ranks 3rd in the nation.  The Tar Heels have held four of their six opponents to under 100 yards rushing. DE Robert Quinn has 7 sacks and 3 forced fumbles, while CB Charles Brown and FS Deunta Williams both have 2 interceptions on the season. Butch Davis thinks he has a star RB on offense in Ryan Houston (seven rushing touchdowns), but Tar Heel QB T.J. Yates is only throwing for 161 yards a game and has 6 touchdowns against 7 interceptions.

This game is not an easy game to handicap, but the pros at FiveStarPick.com have broken down every stat, trend, injury report and weather forcast on this game to provide our members with a winning play.  Try FiveStarPick.com tonight for only ($19.99) and see if our talent for picking college and pro football winners exceeds your expectations.  We are the only sports handicapping service in the business that documents our wins and losses, then displays them on our homepage for all to see.  It’s because we have nothing to hide…we just win games against the spread.  Join our family today and start your winning streak tonight.

Champs Sports Bowl Picks – Wisconsin vs. Florida State – Who Covers The Spread

Saturday, December 27th, 2008

The pros at FiveStarPick.com are starting on another hot streak and there has never been a better time to become a member of our family.  Today we are handicapping the Champs Sports Bowl which features the Wisconsin Badgers and the Florida State Seminoles.  Las Vegas sports books have listed the Seminoles as 6-point favorites with the total settling in around 52.

Wisconsin thought they were on their way back to Big 10 glory after defeating the Volunteers in last season’s Outback Bowl 21-17.  After all, they would be returning 15 starters from a squad that went 9-4 in 2007.  The Badger strategy has always been to run the ball and with RB P.J. Hill in the backfield and a starting offensive line averaging 316.2 pounds, Wisconsin believes they can do it.

Wisconsin currently ranks 14th in the nation on the ground with 212.0 yards per game.  And their 2nd string rusher, redshirt freshman John Clay, ran for 845 yards and 9 touchdowns this year.  But the Badgers can’t run it on every play and that seems to be their biggest problem.  Allan Evridge was benched after the Kansas Statae game because of production problems, so the Badgers enlisted Dustin Sherer under center.  Sherer hasn’t been that much better completing only 54.3 percent of his passes for 1,257 yards and a TD/INT ratio of 5:5.

The Seminoles are one of the best defensive programs in the country.  The defensive unit at FSU has only allowed 291.8 YPG this season, which ranks them 14th in the nation in total defense. And the ‘Noles have the 33rd ranked rush defense in the country, allowing only 126.8 YPG on the ground.  In addition, FSU is 2nd in the nation with an average of 8.6 tackles for loss per game in 2008.

FSU’s offense, however, isn’t the best.  The Seminoles are averaging 368.7 YPG on the attack this year, 55th in the country. While the running (182.8) and passing (185.8) games are about equal, the ‘Noles rely more on the ground game to help them win games.  And that means a lot of Antone Smith. The senior from Pahokee, Florida leads the program with 753 yards and 14 touchdowns on 161 carries this season.  QB Christian Ponder will get the start today for the Noles.  Ponder has thrown more interceptions (13) than touchdowns (12) this year, but he still was named the team’s offensive MVP this year.

Favorites in the Champs Sports Bowl have gone 10-7 straight up and 8-9 against the spread since the bowl was known as the Blockbuster Bowl in 1990.  The Seminoles are 11-5 SU as favorites this year, but 8-8 ATS.

Wednesday, December 3rd, 2008

FiveStarPick.com is hot on another college basketball game as we give our members the winner of tonight’s ACC-Big 10 matchup between the Florida State Seminoles (7-0 SU, 3-0 ATS) and the Northwestern Wildcats (4-1 SU, 2-0-1 ATS).  Las Vegas sportsbooks opened the Wildcats as 2.5-point home favorites.

Northwestern is coming off a 59-43 win over UC-Irvine as a 15-point home favorites. Kevin Coble had a game-high 14 points for the Wildcats.  Bill Carmody is in his ninth season in Evanston and the pressure is on to produce a winner this year. The Wildcats’ lone loss to date was a 57-53 defeat at Butler as four-point underdogs.

The Seminoles beat Cincinnati 58-47 as 2 ½-point ‘dogs and California 80-77 as 3-point dogs. Senior guard Toney Douglas had a team-high 28 points in the win over the Golden Bears.  FSU’s Douglas, a shoot-first point guard who started his career at Auburn, is averaging a team-high 19.0 PPG.

College Football Pick Of The Day – Boston College @ Florida State – Who Covers The Spread

Saturday, November 15th, 2008

Now that we have your attention…FiveStarPick.com has been crunching stats, trends, injury and weather reports all week to give its members the winners of several college football games today.  But the focus of today’s preview is the game between Boston College and Florida State.  According to the latest AP Top 25 Poll, North Carolina (17) and Florida State (20) are the only two ranked schools from the ACC.  Not a great year for football this year in the ACC.  Las Vegas sportsbooks have listed the Seminoles as 6.5-point home favorites with the total set at 45.5.

The Seminoles (7-2 Straight Up, 4-3 Against the Spread) only two losses this year have come by a combined 12 points to Wake Forest (12-3) and Georgia Tech (31-28).  FSU committed 9 turnovers in those losses and basically dominated the time of posession. The Noles are tied with Wake Forest for first place in the division and hoping their strong rushing attack will carry them to their first ACC title game since 2005. The Noles haven’t finished a season averaging 200 rushing yards since 1995, but in 2008, Florida State is averaging 205.2 rushing yards, second-most in the ACC.

Boston College (6-3 SU, 4-4 ATS) will be trying to continue an interesting trend this week.  The visitor has won and covered the last three meetings between these two teams.  The Eagles avoided a third straight loss last Saturday with a 17-0 win over Notre Dame.  Boston College had given up 72 points in their previous two games, but had 4 interceptions and held the Irish to 66 rushing yards.  In their last four games, the Eagles have returned an interception, a fumble and two punts for touchdowns. They are among the nation’s leaders with 18 interceptions.

College Football Pick Of The Day – Florida State @ NC State – Who Covers The Spread

Thursday, October 16th, 2008

Now that we got your attention, do not miss out on tonight’s FiveStar winner between the Florida State Seminoles and the NC State Wolfpack.   Las Vegas sportsbooks have the Seminoles as 10 point favorites against the Wolfpack with the total set at 48.

Last season, the Seminoles whipped up on N.C. State at home 27-10, reversing FSU’s trend of getting manhandled by the Wolfpack in four of their last six meetings.  Florida St. comes into this game still high from a 41-39 win against Miami in a mud bowl.  The Seminoles are hopeful that things are now turning around with the addition of QB Christian Ponder and RB Antone Smith.

N.C. State coach Tom O’Brien is hoping LB Nate Irving will be able to play tonight.  Irving is one of the ACC’s top defensive players, but has missed the last two games with an ankle injury.  Irving is a game-time decision.

But defense is half the battle for the Wolfpack.  To have a chance tonight, the offense will have to make plays.  And big plays.  Running Backs, Jamelle Eugene and Andre Brown will shoulder much of the load and freshman QB Russell Wilson will have to avoid the “deer in headlights” look when he sees the speed of FSU’s defense.

The Seminoles are 2-1 against the spread to date.  The Wolfpack are 3-2 against the spread.

So who covers the spread in today’s game?  Why not let FiveStarPick.com help you with the answer?  Aren’t you tired of getting cold called by services that tell you about their 750,000 star play that’s a guaranteed winner. Here is a bit of advice…NOTHING is guaranteed when you are betting on sports.  These so called “handicappers” call 500 people on a Saturday morning and give them all a free play; 250 people will get FSU -10 and 250 will get NC State +10.  After the game ends, they call back the 250 people who won and pitch them on charging thousands of dollars on their credit cards for more guaranteed winners.  We are not your typical sports handicapping service.  We care about our members and we live and die on every play. Why?  Because we are moving thousands of dollars of our own money on the same plays we give you. Gambling on sports is how we make our living.  Do we win every play?  Absolutely not and we will never pretend to.  Our plays are always posted for all to see, including our losing streaks. But by the end of the year we always seem to have a few hundred thousand dollars of the sportsbook’s money in our casino account.  Let us try and do the same for you.  Join our family of winners today and start your winning streak tonight.
