Iowa vs. Georgia Tech – FedEx Orange Bowl Picks Against The Spread

Tuesday, January 5th, 2010

After another bowl win last night with Boise State +7, the 2010 Bowl Season continues tonight for the pros at FiveStarPick.com.  We have been working overtime to analyze tonight’s FedEx Orange Bowl between the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets and we look forward to another spread winner tonight.  Las Vegas Sportsbooks list  Georgia Tech as 5-point favorites with a total of 50. Georgia Tech opened in most books as a 3-point favorite back in December, but the betting public has moved the line up to 5.

Georgia Tech (11-2 SU, 8-4 ATS) boasts the second-best rushing attack in the country behind running back Jonathan Dwyer (1,346 yards, 14 TDs) and quarterback Josh Nesbitt (991 yards, 18 TDs). But the Iowa defense is only giving up 122 rushing yards per game and has a very solid secondary.

Iowa (10-2 straight up, 7-3 against the spread) will be rallying behind their quarterback Ricky Stanzi (2,186 yards, 15 TDs, 14 INTs).  Stanzi is back under center after a being out for the last half of the season due to an ankle injury and he will be facing a Georgia Tech defense (24.8 ppg) that was very suspect this year, especially against the pass.  Many Iowa fans believe that if Stanzi didn’t go down with the injury that Iowa may have been Rose Bowl bound.

What bettors want to know is whether or not the Jackets will be overlooking another “lack-luster” team from the Big Ten or will the Tech read-option offensive attack hold up? The Big Ten has gone 4-2 Against The Spread in this year’s bowls and the three losses came by 1, 3 and 10 points. The ACC has gone 3-3 Against The Spread in its six bowl appearances this season.

Last year, Georgia Tech met LSU in the Chick-fil-A Bowl but the Tigers pounced in a 35-3 victory. The loss extended the Jackets’ losing streak 0-4 in their last 4 bowl games. The Gerogia Tech defense has given up 38, 38, 40 and 35 during this losing stretch.

Last year, Iowa put the hammer down on South Carolina, 31-10, in the Outback Bowl.  In the Hawkeyes last seven bowl appearances, they are 6-1 Against The Spread with the one loss being against USC (38-17) in the 2002 Orange Bowl.

College Football Pick Of The Day – Georgia Tech @ Miami – Covering The Spread

Thursday, September 17th, 2009

The pros at FiveStarPick.com are giving our members another against the spread winner tonight as we handicap Thursday Night’s ESPN College Football ACC matchup between the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets and the Miami Hurricanes.  Las Vegas sportsbooks list the Hurricanes as 5.5-point home favorites with a total of 54.

Last week Georgia Tech went up early on Clemson, 21-0, thanks to a couple special teams plays.  But the Tigers came all the way back to tie the game and even take the lead.  In the end however, QB Josh Nesbitt made a couple of timely throws to get The Yellow Jackets into field goal range and Tech won the game 30-27.  The ground game was a huge part of the win, rushing for over 300 yards against Clemson, but bettors laying 5.5 on the Yellow Jackets didn’t care much about the straight up win.

For Georgia Tech to cover the spread tonight, head coach Paul Johnson will need to patch up some holes in his Georgia Tech defense.  Clemson redshirt freshman QB Kyle Parker threw for 261 yards and three (3) touchdowns last Thursday against GA Tech and you can be sure that Hurricanes quarterback Jacory Harris has been studying the film.

Harris, the sophomore signal caller making only his third career start, toppled the Florida State defense for 386 yards and two TDs.  Harris spread the ball around to eight (8) different receivers, but mostly to WRs Travis Benjamin and Leonard Hankerson.

Of course, Randy Shannon and the Miami defense certainly remembers the 2008 meeting between these two programs when the Yellow Jackets ran for 472 yards en route to a 41-23 victory.  The Georgia Tech defense must get effective pressure on Harris and the Hurricanes passing attack to escape South Florida with a win.

So who covers the spread tonight?  It’s very easy to find out.  Try FiveStarPick.com for a month ($99.99) and see if our talent for picking college and pro football winners exceeds your expectations.  We are the only sports handicapping service in the business who documents wins and losses and displays them on our homepage for all to witness.  It’s because we have nothing to hide…we just win games against the spread.  Join our family today and start your winning streak tonight.

College Football Pick Of The Day – Miami @ Georgia Tech – Who Covers The Spread

Thursday, November 20th, 2008

Who covers the spread in tonight’s game between the Miami Hurricanes and the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets?  Why not let FiveStarPick.com help you with the answer today?  Aren’t you tired of getting cold called by services that tell you about their 750,000 star play that’s a guaranteed winner?  Here is a bit of advice…NOTHING is guaranteed when you are betting on sports!  These so called “handicappers” call 500 people today and give them all a free play; 250 people will get the Georgia Tech -3 and 250 will get Miami +3.  After the game ends, they call back the 250 people who won and pitch them on charging thousands of dollars to their credit cards for more guaranteed winners.  FiveStarPick.com is not your typical sports handicapping service.  We care about our members and we live and die on every play. Why?  Because we are moving thousands of dollars of our own money on the same plays we give you. Gambling on sports is how we make our living.  Do we win every play?  Absolutely not and we will never pretend to.  Our plays are always posted for the world to see, including our losing streaks. But by the end of the year we always seem to have a few hundred thousand dollars of the sportsbook’s money in our casino account.  Let us try and do the same for you.  Read below for our breakdown of tonight’s Thursday Night Football showdown.

Miami (7-3 Straight Up, 5-4 Against the Spread) has been far from overwhelming this year.  Having said that, this young team shows tremendous promise with rotating QB’s Robert Marve and Jacory Harris and a pair of running backs in Graig Cooper and Javarris James.  Randy Shannon loves to run the ball, but when needed, his team has proven that they are more than capable of coming up with the big play through the air.

Georgia Tech (7-3 SU, 6-2 ATS) has been struggling on defense recently giving up 80 points in their last three games.  But starting LT left tackle Jason Fox is set to return tonight from an ankle injury and that should certainly help in protecting QB Josh Nesbitt.  Defense is just part of the current struggles for Georgia Tech.  The offense under coach Paul Johnson, can’t seem to hold onto the ball. The Yellow Jackets rank 118th of 119 Division 1-A teams with 17 fumbles.

One thing is for sure, when the Tech offense holds onto the ball, their spread offense can be very effective. Georgia Tech ranks is 2nd in the ACC with over 350 yards per game and 8th in the nation with over 250 rushing yards.

Now let’s talk trends…Georgia Tech has won 3 straight against Miami and lead the all-time series 9-4.  Miami is 3-1 SU and 3-0 ATS on the road this year.  The Yellow Jackets are 4-1 SU and 3-1 ATS at home.

Why not try our service out for 2-days and see if our talent for picking College Football winners exceeds your expectations?  With over 2300 active members, you owe it to yourself to find out why FiveStarPick.com is the most accurate sports handicapping service on the net.  Our dime bettors are up over $100K on the year.  Join today and start winning tonight.
