NBA Basketball Pick Of The Day – Hornets @ Lakers – Who Covers The Spread

Friday, February 20th, 2009

FiveStarPick.com is on an unprecedented run of losses.  It happens from time to time in this business, but it’s depressing nonetheless.  Tonight we look to right the ship as we give our members the plays in 5 NBA matchups tonight.  Las Vegas sports books list the Lakers as 9-point home favorites with the total coming in around 207.

The Hornets are coming off a 117-85 shalacking of Orlando last Wednesday.  New Orleans has struggled to click on offense in this situation, scoring 90.9 PPG on offense for a point margin of minus -8.6 PPG (allowing 99.5 PPG). And coming off one-day of rest has the Hornets pulling in a skimp 10-13-1 ATS record.

New Orleans has covered six of the last 10 games against the Lakers and is 3-1 ATS in the last four games in Los Angeles.

The Lakers have won 13 of the last 15, but more importantly have gone 10-3 ATS in their last 13. In the last two games back from the break, L.A. has scored an average of 112.5 PPG, is hitting close to 47 percent of its shots and was able to hold Atlanta to 83 points on Tuesday (winning 96-83) before giving up 121 points in a win against Golden State (129-121) on Wednesday.

Scoring 108.3 PPG and returning money on the ‘over’ at 17-11-1 runs counterintuitive to a 5-2 ‘under’ run in the last seven at home for the Lake Show. Again, we have another trend that pulls total players the other way as L.A. is 17-9 on the ‘over’ coming off one day of rest. Off the short day without a game, the Lakers are scoring 108.2 PPG while allowing 103 PPG.

NBA Basketball Pick Of The Day – Lakers @ Warriors – Who Covers The Spread

Wednesday, February 18th, 2009

FiveStarPick.com is licking its wounds after taking a beating in its member plays over the last few nights.  Betting on sports is about weathering the storm and last night we hit an ice patch.  Tonight we look to melt the ice as we give our members the ATS winners in 3 games.  The focus of this preview is tonight’s game betweent the Los Angeles Lakers and the Golden State Warriors.  Las Vegas sports books list the Lakers as 5-point road favorites with the total hovering around 226.

The Lakers returned from the All-Star break by blowing out Atlanta last night and tonight they will face a very rested Pacific Division rival in the Golden State Warriors.  Los Angeles (43-10 SU, 28-25 ATS) pulled away from Atlanta with a 22-12 run in the second quarter last night, then used a 40-point third period to help build a 25-point lead.  Six (6) Los Angeles players reached double figures in scoring.  Kobe played 28-plus minutes and Pau Gasol recorded his 3rd career triple-double with 12 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists.  Lamar Odom added 15 points and 20 boards into the mix as well.

The Lakers hope they saved enough energy for what’s sure to be another fast-paced affair with the Warriors (19-35 SU, 25-26-3 ATS).  Los Angeles has beaten Golden State twice this year.  The first was a 130-113 victory at home on December 28th, then a 114-106 road win on January 7th.  Golden State is 14-12 SU in Oakland, but closed the first half of the season with home wins over Utah, New York and Portland…not easy wins.

NBA Basketball Picks – Lakers @ Heat – Who Covers The Spread

Friday, December 19th, 2008

FiveStarPick.com is excited about the next few weeks as bowl season and the NFL Playoffs begin, but tonight we will aim our focus on the NBA Friday night basketball game between the LA Lakers and the Miami Heat.  Las Vegas sportsbooks list the Lakers as 7.5-road favorites with the total set at 205.

Even with two of their top players feeling ill, the Lakers still find a way to keep winning.  Tonight, they open a four-game eastern road trip against a Miami Heat club that’s lost three in a row. Los Angeles (21-3 Straight Up, 11-12-1 Against The Spread) is looking for its 5th straight victory and 15th in 17 games following Tuesday night’s 116-114 home win over the New York Knicks.

Despite an upper respiratory infection, Lamar Odom recorded season highs of 17 points and 12 rebounds. Odom was making his first start of 2008-09 in place of Paul Gasol, who was sent home Tuesday night with strep throat.  Odom, who averaged 17.1 points, 9.7 rebounds and 4.1 assists with Miami in 2003-04, practiced Wednesday and is expected to play Friday.  That’s good news for Los Angeles, as Odom is averaging 13.3 points, 15.0 boards and 5.7 assists in three games in Miami with the Lakers. He had 15 points, 18 rebounds and six assists in a 104-94 win at AmericanAirlines Arena on Feb. 10.  Gasol didn’t practice Wednesday and is questionable for Friday. Tuesday was his first missed game since being sidelined for nine games with a sprained left ankle from March 16-30.  After shooting 39.7 percent over his previous six games, Kobe Bryant went 12-of-22 from the field against the Knicks and scored 28 points – nine in the final 7:33 of play.

Dwayne Wade and the Miami Heat haven’t enjoyed too many of those over the past week.  Miami (12-12 SU, 8-15-1 ATS) lost its third straight Monday night, 98-83 to Milwaukee as Wade missed 11 of 16 shots and finished with 15 points.  Wade averaged 34.8 points and hit 50.5 percent from the field during a four-game winning streak from Dec. 1-8, but is averaging 17.7 points and 33.9 percent shooting during the three-game slide.  Wade leads the league with 28.0 points per game. He averaged 18.5 in two losses to the Lakers last season, though.

NBA Basketball Picks – Pistons @ Lakers – Nuggets @ Celtics – Who Covers The Spread

Friday, November 14th, 2008

FiveStarPick will be giving its members a double header tonight in the NBA.  We will preview the early game first where the Denver Nuggets travel to Boston to face the Celtics.  Las Vegas sportsbooks opened Boston as a 10.5-point home favorite over Denver, with the total set at 195.

Denver (4-4 straight up, 6-2 against the spread) comes into Boston after Thursday night’s loss to Cleveland as 7-point road dogs, 110-99. The combined 209 points cashed the over 199 for bettors.  New Nugget guard Chauncey Billups led all scorers with 26 points and 6 assists.  The team shot 48 percent (35-of-73) from the field in the loss.

Boston (8-1 SU, 4-5 ATS) beat Atlanta Wednesday night, but failed to cover the 11-point spread as Forward Paul Pierce hit a shot at the buzzer to win 103-102. The combined 205 points cashed the over 184 for bettors.  Pierce finished the game with 36 points and 6 rebounds.

Denver forward Kenyon Martin is listed as ‘questionable’ against the Celtics.

Now let’s talk about the late game between the Pistons and Lakers.  Las Vegas sportsbooks list the Lakers as 10-point home favorites over Detroit, with the total set at 195.

Detroit (5-2 SU, 3-4 ATS) played Golden State last night and came away with the 107-102 road victory.  The Pistons Detroit have been winning their road games by an average score of 99-93 and the over is now 3-1 in those road matchups.

Los Angeles (7-0 SU, 6-1 ATS) is still the league’s only unbeaten team after beating New Orleans Wednesday as a 1-point road dog, 93-86. The combined 179 points cashed the under 196 for bettors ending a string of three straight over outings.  Kobe Bryant and Derek Fisher each scored 20 points in the victory, while center Andrew Bynum had 14 points and 8 rebounds.  Los Angeles is 3-0 SU and ATS at home and the over is 2-1 in those contests. The Lakers have been winning their home games by an average score of 104-82.

Detroit guard Rodney Stuckey (illness) is expected to miss this matchup with the Lakers.

NBA Pick Of The Day – Lakers @ Clippers – Who Covers The Spread

Wednesday, October 29th, 2008
The NBA is back and FiveStarPick.com is looking forward to bleeding the sportsbooks for more cash this season.  FiveStarPick’s featured matchup tonight is the Los Angeles Lakers on the road in the Staples Center?  It’s the Clippers!  Not much of a road game for the Lakers, but Las Vegas sportsbooks have listed the Clippers as 9-point home favorites with the total set at 202.5.

The Lakers (1-0 SU, 1-0 ATS) made it to the NBA finals last season before losing to Boston.  Kobe, Gasol and all the usual suspects are back this year  including the return of center Andrew Bynum, who didn’t play after mid-January last season due to a knee injury.  Bynum scored 8-points and grabbed 3 rebounds on Tuesday against the Trailblazers.

The Clippers have a number of new faces this season after Elton Brand signed a 5-year, $82 million deal with Philadelphia on July 9.  After losing their best player, the Clippers signed former All-Star Baron Davis who grew up in Los Angeles and went to UCLA.  Davis signed a 5-year, $65 million deal to give the Clippers a playmaker at point guard.

The Clippers can only hope Davis and the newly rebuilt team will have better luck against the Lakers than last year’s team. The Lakers won all 4 meetings with the Clippers last season by an average of 26.0 points.

So who covers the spread in tonight’s game?  Why not let FiveStarPick.com help you with the answer?  Aren’t you tired of getting cold called by services that tell you about their 750,000 star play that’s a guaranteed winner. Here is a bit of advice…NOTHING is guaranteed when you are betting on sports.  These so called “handicappers” call 500 people on a Saturday morning and give them all a free play; 250 people will get the Lakers +9 and 250 will get the Clippers -9.  After the game ends, they call back the 250 people who won and pitch them on charging thousands of dollars to their credit cards for more guaranteed winners.   We are not your typical sports handicapping service.  We care about our members and we live and die on every play. Why?  Because we are moving thousands of dollars of our own money on the same plays we give you. Gambling on sports is how we make our living.  Do we win every play?  Absolutely not and we will never pretend to.  Our plays are always posted for all to see, including our losing streaks. But by the end of the year we always seem to have a few hundred thousand dollars of the sportsbook’s money in our casino account.  Let us try and do the same for you.  Join our family of winners today and start your winning streak tonight.
