College Football Pick Of The Day – Pittsburgh @ Louisville – Who Covers The Spread

Friday, October 2nd, 2009

The pros at fivestarpick.com suffered a heartbreaking loss last night as we gave our members West Virginia -16.5.  The Mountaineers were up 35-17 with 2 minutes remaining and fell victim to a back door cover via a meaningless Colorado TD with time expiring.  Tonight we look to get back on track as we give our members the winner of Pitt @ Louisville.  Las Vegas sportsbooks list Pitt as 6.5 point road favorites with a total of 53.5

Louisville’s program (1-2 straight up, 1-1 against the spread) has been on a downward spiral since Bobby Petrino (41-9) left and Pittsburgh (3-1 SU, 2-1 against the spread) has shared in the same dissapointment under Dave Wannstedt.

Pitt is playing its second road game in as many weeks and took a 31-17 lead late in the third quarter last week at North Carolina State. But Russell Wilson threw a pair of fourth-quarter touchdown passes to spark a North Carolina St. comeback victory, 38-31.  The Wolfpack covered as a 1 ½-point home dog.

In Pitt’s losing effort, Bill Stull threw for 206 yards and two TD passes without an interception. On the season, Stull has completed 65.6 percent of his throws for 746 yards with an outstanding 8/1 touchdown-interception ratio.  Pitt was not high on anyone’s depth chart this season with RB’s LeSean McCoy and LaRod Stephens-Howling going to the NFL, but redshirt freshman RB Dion Lewis has rushed for 493 yards and seven TDs and is averaging 5.7 yards per carry.

Louisville started off the season with a 30-10 home win over Indiana St. in a non-lined game.  The Cardinals then had a great shot at pulling an upset at Kentucky, but the Wildcats rallied in the fourth quarter to capture the victory.  Louisville still covered the spread as a 13-point road dog.  On the road at Utah last week, Louisville lost a 30-14 decision. The Utes covered as 14-point home favorites.

This is the 5th home dog spot for Louisville under Kragthorpe’s tenure. The Cards are 2-2 against the spread winning outright twice against Kansas St. and USF last season.  The Panthers are 5-6 ATS as road favorites under Wannstedt.

Louisville starting safety Terrence Simien remains “out” after suffering a kidney laceration in the loss at UK.  Starting LB Brandon Heath is “probable” after leaving last week’s game with a sprained ankle.  Pitt starting MLB Adam Gunn (ankle) is “probable” this week, reserve DE Tyler Tkach is “doubtful” with a foot injury and starting free safety Andrew Taglianetti is done for the season after tearing his ACL.

College Football Pick Of The Day – Louisville @ Memphis – Who Covers The Spread

Friday, October 10th, 2008

FiveStarPick.com loves Friday Night Lights on ESPN as two great College Basketball giants square off on the gridiron at the Liberty Bowl in Memphis. Las Vegas sportsbooks opened Louisville (2-2 straight up, 1-2 against the spread) as 5-point favorites with the total set at 55.  As of Thursday afternoon, most books had pushed the Cardinals up to 6.5-point favorites.

Bettors can back Memphis (3-3 SU, 2-2-1 ATS) on the money line for a +200 return (risk $100 to win $200). Memphis lost its first 3 games but recently have rattled off 3 straight wins. Their last game was a push for bettors as Memphis beat UAB 33-30 last Thursday as 3-point road favorites. The win came as Memphis kicked a 25-yard field goal with two seconds left in the game.

Memphis’ QB Arkelon Hall threw for 209 yards and 4 touchdowns.  Curtis Steele ran 101 yards on just 14 carries giving him his 3rd 100 yard rushing game of the season.

Louisville lost two weeks ago on Friday night to UConn 26-21 as 3.5-point favorites. The Cardinals had a 21-10 lead late in the 3rd quarter, then UConn scored 16 unanswered points to win by 5.  Louisville had 508 yards of total offense compared to the Huskies’ 279, but turnovers were costly for the Cards.  Cantwell has completed 57.8 percent of his passes for 876 yards and a 5/5 TD-INT ratio.  This is the Cardinals’ first road game of the season. They are 1-2 ATS in three games as road favorites.

Memphis is 2-1 SU and 1-1 ATS at home this year. The Tigers lost to Rice 42-35 as 2.5-point favorites, but they beat Arkansas St. 29-17 as 2-point home ‘dogs.

College Football Pick Of The Day – UConn @ Louisville – Who Covers The Spread

Friday, September 26th, 2008

FiveStarPick.com has been crunching stats, trends, injury reports and weather forcasts all night and plans to give its members the winner and total for tonight’s game between the UConn Huskies and the Louisville Cardinals.  Connecticut (4-0 straight up, 1-2 against the spread) will return to the national stage tonight on the road having almost lost to Baylor last Friday and failing to cover in their 2nd game in 3 starts.  The over for UConn this season is a solid 3-0-1.

Louisville (2-1 straight up, 1-1 against the spread) started the year losing at home to Kentucky as a 4 point favorite 27-2.  That loss lit a fire under the Cardinals respondeing favorably with back-to-back victories. The Cardinals crushed Tennessee Tech 51-10, then beat Kansas State 38-29 last Wednesday as a 6 point home dog. The combined 67 points cashed over players on the 56-point total.

Las Vegas sportsbooks opened Louisville as a 2 ½-point favorite with the total set at 53. The line has been moving and most spots have adjusted the Cardinals to 3 ½ and the total has moved to 50.
