Texas @ Missouri – Winning College Football Picks Against The Spread

Saturday, October 24th, 2009

The pros at FiveStarPick.com are looking forward to another profitable Saturday in College Football. The focus of today’s preview is the Big 12 matchup between the Texas Longhorns and the Missouri Tigers.  Las Vegas sportsbooks list the Longhorns as 13-point road favorites with a total of 49.

Texas (6-0 SU, 1-4 ATS) is coming off survival game beating Oklahoma 16-13 in the Red River Shootout. The Longhorns will face another tough test this week  as they head to Columbia to take on Missouri (4-2 SU, 2-3 ATS). Gary Pinkel’s Tigers weren’t expected to contend this year in the Big 12 after losing many key players to the NFL.  However, Missouri got off to a 4-0 start an showed that there is some depth in the Missouri roster.

This will be the third straight ranked opponent for the Longhorns and most bettors believe it will be another victory for Longhorn Quarterback Colt McCoy.  What is interesting is that this year, the Texas defense (246 YPG, 14.7 PPG) is getting all the press allowing only 36 YPG on the ground.  After averaging 36.8 PPG in the first four games, the Tigers and QB Blaine Gabbert have put up a total of only 29 in the last two.

College Football Pick Of The Day – Nebraska @ Missouri – Who Covers The Spread

Thursday, October 8th, 2009

The pros at FiveStarPick.com look forward to another win tonight as we give our members the against the spread winner of Nebraska and Missouri.  Las Vegas sportsbooks list the Cornhuskers as 3.5-point favorites with a total of 52.5.

Missouri has crushed Nebraska in their last two meetings by a combined score of 92-23.  This game, in our opinion, should have a much different feel. Missouri had six players selected in the 2009 NFL Draft including WR Jeremy Maclin (Philadelphia Eagles), DT Evander Hood (Pittsburgh Steelers), S William Moore (Atlanta Falcons), TE Chase Coffman (Cincinnati Bengals), OL Colin Brown (Kansas City Chiefs) and DE Stryker Sulak (Oakland Raiders). If you can believe it, the only player not drafted was Heisman Trophy candidate, QB Chase Daniel, who is currently sitting on the sidelines with New Orleans Saints.  Not many programs can lose 6 starters on offense and not lose production, but Gary Pinkel’s team is now a perfect 4-0 on the season with wins over Illinois, Bowling Green, Nevada and Furman.

Sophomore QB Blaine Gabbert has proven to be one of the most proficient passers in the country with a QB rating of 168.6 and he’s yet to throw an interception in 131 pass attempts. The sophomore has been connecting with receivers such as Danario Alexander and Jared Perry, while RB Derrick Washington is getting it done on the ground.

Nebraska is also starting to return to its old winning ways. In the 2007 season, the last for coach Bill Callahan, Nebraska gave up over 30 points in eight of its games, twice giving up over 60 points.  In 2009, the Huskers are ranked No. 3 nationally in scoring defense (7.0 points per game) and No. 23 in total defense (285 yards per game) led by a defensive line with All-America candidate Ndamukong Suh.

The offense is also showing signs of improvement.  Evidenced recently when RB Roy Helu lit up the Hokies defense for 169 rushing yards. The Cornhuskers eventually lost that game, 16-15, but it definately was a step in the right direction.  Helu, along with QB Zac Lee give opposing defenses plenty to prepare for.  Missouri’s defensive front gave up 218 rushing yards against Nevada, so adjustments will have to be made tonight against the run if they want to have a chance against Helu.

Nebraska is a perfect 4-0 against the spread this season while Missouri is 2-1 against the spread.

College Football Pick Of The Day – Missouri @ Nevada – Who Covers The Spread

Friday, September 25th, 2009

The pros at FiveStarPick.com continued their winning streak against the spread last night by giving our members South Carolina +5.  You got to love a home dog in the SEC on a Thursday Night.  Today we will be giving our members the against the spread winner of Missouri/Nevada.  Las Vegas sportsbooks list the Tigers as 7-point road favorites with a total of 60.

Many experts thought Nevada would be a buster for many teams this year, but watching pre-season film on how to defend the Wolfpack’s patented ‘Pistol’ offense has paid off so far for Nevada’s opponents.  Notre Dame certainly had the Wolf Pack’s style figured out when they crushed them 35-0 as a 14-point home favorite.

After the Notre Dame shalacking, Nevada went to Ft. Collins and lost 35-20 to Colorado St. as a 3.5-point road favorite.  The Wolf Pack had five turnovers in the game which greatly contibuted to their demise.

Nevada’s star running back, Taua, hasn’t been the issue.  He’s averaging 6.5 yards per carry (32 carries, 209 rushing yards).   The big problem problem so far has been Kaepernick, who had an outstanding 22/7 touchdown-interception ratio in ’08.  This year he has been intercepted four times already and has just one TD pass in his last two outings.

Gary Pinkel’s Missouri team, on the other hand, was dismissed by every touter in the business due to the loss of key playmakers like Chase Daniel, Jeremy Maclin, Chase Coffman and William Moore.  But the Tigers look like Big 12 contenders so far through three games going 3-0 SU and 1-1 against the spread.  Missouri dominated Illinois in their season opener, 37-9, as a seven-point dog.  The Tigers paid off money-line backers with a +240 payout.

After the opener, Missouri had somewhat of a letdown, finally rallying past Bowling Green for a 27-20 home win. The Tigers failed to cover the 18-point spread as home favorites against the Falcons. Last week they disposed of Furman early and often in a 52-12 victory in a non-lined matchup.

With both teams playing on a short week of preparation, the visiting team is usually at a disadvantage since it has to travel.  However, Pinkel and his Missouri Tigers have refuted any such notion this week.

So who covers the spread in this matchup?  It’s very easy to find out.  Try FiveStarPick.com for a month ($99.99) and see if our talent for picking college and pro football winners exceeds your expectations.  We are the only sports handicapping service in the business who documents wins and losses and displays them on our homepage for all to witness.  It’s because we have nothing to hide…we just win games against the spread.  Join our family today and start your winning streak tonight.

Alamo Bowl Picks – Northwestern vs. Missouri – Who Covers The Spread

Monday, December 29th, 2008

FiveStarPick.com looks to continue its college bowl dominance as we give our members the winner of today’s 2 bowl games.  The focus our our preview is the Alamo bowl which matches up the Missouri Tigers with the Northwestern Wildcats.  Las Vegas sportsbooks are listing the Tigers as 12 ½-point favorites with the total set at 66.

The Missouri Tiger Senior Chase Daniel is ranked 7th in the nation in passing efficiency with a rating of 164.8 in 2008 and his offense is 6th in the country with 497.5 yards per game. Daniel’s favorite targets are wide receiver Jeremy Maclin and tight end Chase Coffman.  Maclin boasts 95 catches for 1,221 yards and 12 touchdowns and Coffman has 83 catches this year for 920 yards and another 10 scores.

Those two receivers will be facing up against a Northwestern secondary that ranks 74th in the country giving up 215.3 YPG though the air.  But the Wildcats haven’t faced an attack this powerful all year.  The Wildcats will probably move out their linebackers to help cover Mizzou’s third and fourth receivers at the line, which will benefit Missouri’s RB Derrick Washington. The sophomore is averaging 76.3 YPG this season and 6.1 yards per carry.

This is actually the first time these two schools have met since splitting a home-and-home series, both straight up and against the spread, during the 1985 and 1987 seasons. Northwestern has seemingly forgotten how to win a bowl game, losing its last five postseason appearances since winning the 1948 Rose Bowl over California.

College Football Pick Of The Day – Missouri @ Texas – Who Covers The Spread

Saturday, October 18th, 2008

FiveStarPick.com is entering another unprecendented Saturday of college football and will be giving its members 8 plays today.  The most talked about play being tonight’s game between the Missouri Tigers and the Texas Longhorns.  Las Vegas sportsbooks opened the Longhorns as 7 point home favorites.  The betting public has moved the line down to 4 with the total set at 67.

College Football Pick Of The Day - Missouri @ Texas - Who Covers The SpreadThe Tigers have one of the most explosive offenses in the Big XII, but it got a wake-up call last weekend as they lost at home to Oklahoma State, 28-23.  FiveStarPick gave its members OK State, thank you very much.  Chase Daniel threw 3 interceptions in the 2nd half after having only one pick for the year prior to the Cowboy game.  The Tigers are going to be taking on a Longhorns’ defense that is even faster than what they saw last week. But Missouri uses the Spread Offense, which in the past has given the Horns’ secondary fits.  As a matter of fact, the Texas defense gives up an average 267.8 yards through the air.

Mizzou also has a good defense only allowing 21.3 points per game this season, but their numbers can cut both ways.  For example, look at their pass defense which is giving up 270.5 passing YPG. Texas should be able to throw for major yards against the Missouri D-Backs and Safteys under Heisman hopeful Colt McCoy.  In McCoy’s last outing against the Sooners he proved time and time again that the comeback was possible.  The Longhorns were down 14-3 and 21-10 at different stages of the game, but McCoy completed 80 percent of his passes for 277 yards to notch the victory both straight up and against the spread.  Oh, by the way, we gave our members Texas last week, plus the 7.

Now…let’s talk trends.  In Texas’ last 8 meetings with Mizzou the ‘Horns are 7-1 SU, but the Tigers are 5-2 ATS.  In 2008, Mack Brown’s club has covered the number in all six of their games despite an average spread of 21.

So who covers the spread in today’s game?  Why not let FiveStarPick.com help you with the answer?  Aren’t you tired of getting cold called by services that tell you about their 750,000 star play that’s a guaranteed winner. Here is a bit of advice…NOTHING is guaranteed when you are betting on sports.  These so called “handicappers” call 500 people on a Saturday morning and give them all a free play; 250 people will get Texas -4 and 250 will get Missouri +4.  After the game ends, they call back the 250 people who won and pitch them on charging thousands of dollars on their credit cards for more guaranteed winners.  We are not your typical sports handicapping service.  We care about our members and we live and die on every play. Why?  Because we are moving thousands of dollars of our own money on the same plays we give you. Gambling on sports is how we make our living.  Do we win every play?  Absolutely not and we will never pretend to.  Our plays are always posted for all to see, including our losing streaks. But by the end of the year we always seem to have a few hundred thousand dollars of the sportsbook’s money in our casino account.  Let us try and do the same for you.  Join our family of winners today and start your winning streak tonight.
