Last Thursday night in Game 5, Cleveland blew a 22-point lead even falling behind in the third quarter.  But LeBron wasn’t about to let his team lose at home.  King James roasted the fourth quarter with 17 points to will his team to a 112-102 victory.  For the first time in the series and in the last 10 head-to-head meetings against Orlando, the Cavs beat the spread as 8-point home favorites. The combined 214 points went over the 190 ½-point total.

The King ended up with his fourth career playoff triple-double with 37 points, 14 rebounds and 12 assists. NBA Playoff Picks Game 6 – Lakers @ Nuggets – Covering The Spread

Thursday, May 28th, 2009

Well…our members lost last night taking the Magic +8, but the Cavs played tough in the final 3 minutes and covered the spread by 2.  Notwithstanding the foregoing, the pros at FiveStarPick.com are still a blistering 11-3 against the spread in their last 14 member plays.  Tonight we focus on Game 6 of the Western Conference Finals as the Lakers travel to Denver to take on the Nuggets.  Las Vegas sportsbooks list the Nuggets as 5-point favorites with the total coming in around 209.

Los Angeles comes into Game 6 holding a 3-2 advantage over the Nuggets. The Lakers haven’t lost a best-of-seven series that was tied at 2-2 after winning a Game 5 since the 1969 NBA Finals against Boston.  The Lakers (76-23 straight up, 51-48 against the spread) have the second-most NBA championships (14), and lead the NBA in Finals appearances (29). The Lakers advanced to the NBA Finals last season before ultimately falling to the Boston Celtics.

Denver, the second seed in the West, has never advanced to the NBA Finals since joining the league in 1976, but Denver’s fortunes changed when veteran point guard Chauncey Billups was added to their line-up.  The Nuggets (64-33 SU, 58-38 against the spread) made franchise history recording back-to-back 50-win seasons.

The Lakers took Game 5 as a six-point home favorite, 103-94…a FiveStarPick.com against the spread win.  The combined 197 points helped the ‘under’ improve to 4-1 in this series.  The game was tied after each of the first three quarters before Los Angeles went on a 21-3 run in the 4th quarter.  The Lakers were outrebounded by Denver, 43-42, but shot a solid 49 percent (37-of-76) from the field in the victory.  Kobe Bryant paced the offense with 22 points and eight assists, while power forward Lamar Odom had a phenomenal game adding 19 points and grabbing 14 rebounds.

Now let’s talk trends…Los Angeles is 32-16 SU and 26-22 against the spread on the road this year. The Lakers have been winning their road games this season by an average score of 104-100.  Denver maintains a 40-9 SU and 31-17 against the spread record at home.  The Nuggets have been winning their games at Pepsi Center this season by an average score of 108-100.

NBA Playoff Picks Game 5 – Cavaliers @ Magic – Covering The Spread

Thursday, May 28th, 2009

FiveStarPick.com hits another huge against the spread winner for our members in the NBA Playoffs as we gave out the Lakers -5.5 for the game.  Winning games against the spread has nothing to do with luck…it’s about science and understanding statistical probabilities.  Don’t miss out on tonight’s against the spread winner in the Game 5 Eastern Conference Finals matchup between the Orlando Magic and the Cleveland Cavaliers.  Las Vegas sportsbooks list the Cavaliers as 8-point favorites with a total of 191.

The Orlando Magic took a 3-1 series lead thanks to Tuesday’s 116-114 overtime win as a 2-point home dog.  Dwight Howard scored 27 points in the win and pulled down 14 rebounds to go with four assists and three blocked shots.  The Cavs had a chance to win at the buzzer, but LeBron James’ 3-pointer at the horn was off the mark.   James finished the game with 44 points, 12 rebounds and seven assists and forced OT by hitting a pair of free throws with 0.5 seconds remaining in regulation.

Orlando (70-29 straight up, 59-39-1 against the spread) has now covered the number in nine consecutive head-to-head meetings against the Cavs.  In addition, the Magic have covered the spread in six straight games dating back to the Boston series.  Orlando’s Rafer Alston roasted the Cavs for 26 points on Tuesday night, knocking down 6-of-12 attempts from behind the arc.  As a matter of fact, the Magic have hit 17 of 44 shots from three-ville this series.

Mo Williams ‘guaranteed’ a Cavs’ victory, but he was just 5-for-15 from the floor finishing with 18 points and just two assists. Delonte West added 17 points and seven assists without committing a turnover.

The Cavs are 44-3 straight up and 32-15 against the spread at Quicken Loans Arena.  The Magic have compiled a 32-18 SU record and a 31-18-1 against the spread mark on the road.

NBA Playoff Picks Game 5 – Nuggets @ Lakers – Covering The Spread

Wednesday, May 27th, 2009

FiveStarPick.com gave its members another against the spread winner last night with the Orlando Magic +2 for the game.  Tonight will be no different as we handicap Game 5 of the Western Conference Finals between the Denver Nuggets and the Los Angeles Lakers.  Las Vegas sportsbooks list the Lakers as 6-point home favorites with the total coming in around 210.

The Nuggets evened the series Monday night by beating the Lakers, 120-101, as a 4-point home favorite. Seven players were in double figures for the Nuggets.  Carmelo Anthony wasn’t at the top of his game because of a sprained ankle and a flu bug, but still managed 15 points and five assists.  The “Bigs” for the Nuggets stole the show.  Nene had 14 points, 13 rebounds and six assists, while Kenyon Martin finished with 13 points, 15 boards, two blocked shots and zero turnovers. Chris “The Bird Man” Andersen added six points, 14 rebounds and a pair of blocked shots.

The Lakers still rely heavily on Kobe Bryant who scored a game-high 34 points in the loss.  Bryant was 10-for-26 from the floor, had seven rebounds, five assists and one turnover. Pau Gasol finished with 21 points, 10 rebounds, four assists and three blocked shots. Andrew Bynum had 14 points and five boards in 23 minutes of playing time.

The Nuggets rested for a week after crushing Dallas in five games in the conference semi-finals. The Lakers, meanwhile, were pushed to seven games before escaping against Houston, and the fatigue appears to be showing.  The Lakers need a dose of energy and effort tonight at Staples Center if they want to avoid going down 3-2 in this series.

The NBA fined Lakers coach Phil Jackson and the team $25,000 on Tuesday for his post-game comments on the officiating in Game 4.  The fines were announced after the Lakers addressed the media, but Jackson was asked whether the Nuggets have shifted their play from physical to dirty.

NBA Playoff Picks Game 4 – Cavaliers @ Magic – Covering The Spread

Tuesday, May 26th, 2009

Congratulations to our over 3000 members who hit the ‘Over 208′ in last night’s Nuggets/Lakers ‘Total’ play.  The win continues a streak of 9 out of 10 winners against the spread for our core of betting believers.  The focus of today’s preview is Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Finals which features the Cleveland Cavaliers on the road to face the Orlando Magic.  Las Vegas sportsbooks list the Cavaliers as 2-point road favorites with a total of 188.  We think this line is dead wrong!

Orlando won Game 3, 99-89, over Cleveland on Sunday giving the club a 2-1 series lead in the best-of-seven duel.  Dwight Howard scored 24 points and the Magic rebounded from LeBron James’ game-winning buzzer beater in Game 2.

King James finished with 41 points in the Game 3 loss, but neither LeBron (1-of-8) or his teammates (4-of-18) could hit anything from behind the arc.  The Cavs (other than LeBron) have got to step up and make shots if they want any chance of making it to this year’s Finals.  Mo Williams finished Game 3 going just 5-of-16 from the floor and is a dismal 25% from 3-land.  To make things worse, the first-year All-Star caught a nasty elbow from Orlando’s Anthony Johnson that left him bleeding from the head.

It’s obvious that the public and the NBA want to see the Lakers and Cavaliers meet in the NBA Finals.  With that being said, the fouls in Game 3 were questionable at best and you could make the argument that the refs were leaning hard towards LeBron and the Cavs.  Officials called 58 fouls resulting in 86 free throws in 48 minutes…that is a lot of whistle blowing.

The Magic have covered eight straight and they are 13-1 against the spreaad in their last 14 meetings with Cleveland.  Orlando has lost two games at home in the playoffs on buzzer-beaters.  One trend favoring Cleveland is how the team responds coming off a loss.  This year, the Cavs have gone 14-2 SU and 13-3 against the spread after a defeat and that includes Game 2’s comeback win at home against Orlando.
