NFL Monday Night Football Picks – Buccaneers @ Panthers – Who Covers The Spread

Monday, December 8th, 2008

It’s Monday Night Football tonight, so let’s talk about another win.  FiveStarPick.com is coming off a great winning run for it’s members and tonight our members will get the winner of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Carolina Panthers.  Las Vegas sportsbooks have listed the Panthers as 3-point home favorites with the total set at 38.

Tampa Bay (9-3 straight up, 7-5 against the spread) is only 3-3 SU and ATS on the road…the over is 4-2. The Bucs have come out on top alot this season and have outscored their opponents 280-200. On October 12th the Bucs crushed the Panthers as a 1.5-point home favorite, 27-3. The combined 30 points failed to go over 37-point closing total, cashing the under for bettors.

Carolina (9-3 SU, 6-5 ATS) is 6-0 SU this year at home. The Panthers have outscored their opponents 285-231 this season, but need a victory tonight after getting beaten by Tampa Bay earlier in the year. Carolina is 2-2 in the NFC South Division, while the Bucs are 3-1.

Tampa Bay is riding a four-game SU winning streak after barely getting by New Orleans last Sunday as a 4-point home favorite, 23-20. The Bucs had covered their last two games before facing the Saints. The combined 43 points fell just shy of the 44-point closing total, cashing the under and improving the under’s record to 6-2 in Tampa’s last 8 outings.

Carolina held off Green Bay last Sunday as a 3-point road dogs, 35-31. The Panthers had failed to cover their previous 2 games before beating the Packers. The combined 66 points went well over the 41-point closing total, helping the over cash in their third straight matchup.

Baltimore (8-4 straight up, 9-3 agaisnt the spread) deserve a lot of respect.  Linebacker Ray Lewis and safety Ed Reed lead the league’s 2nd best defense (253 YPG) in total yards and they’re third in points allowed (15.8)as well. The unit has played better at home, holding teams to 10 PPG, which has translated to a 4-1 record both SU and ATS. The 5 touchdowns scored by the defense is the second most in the NFL and we almost forgot to mention their 20 interceptions, which is the best amongst all 32 teams.

Rookie QB Joe Flacco (12 TDs, 61% completion percentage) has done an incredible job leading a team that looks to establish the run first. The Ravens rank third in rushing offense (143.8 YPG) but only 27th in passing (179.8 YPG).

Washington (7-5 SU, 5-7 ATS) has a rookie head coach as well, Jim Zorn. The former Seattle Seahawks quarterback coach was supposed to help the Redskins unproductive offense. Unfortunately, QB Jason Campbell (10 TDs) has only had 2 games of plus-300 yards this season and has been intercepted 4 times in the last four games (1-3 SU, 1-3 ATS), something he didn’t do in his first eight games (6-2 SU, 5-3 ATS). The offense is one of three teams (Lions, Bengals) not to score 30 or more points all year.

Running back Clinton Portis (neck, ribs, knee) is listed as ‘probable’ for the Redskins today. Portis is ranked second in the league with 1,228 rushing yards and has also caught 23 passes out of the backfield.

NFL Pick Of The Day – Raiders @ Chargers – Who Covers The Spread

Thursday, December 4th, 2008

Why would anyone care about tonight’s NFL Network matchup between the Oakland Raiders and the San Diego Chargers?  Easy, we are all sick, degenerate gamblers and we will bet on anything.  Having said that, read below to see FiveStarPick.com’s preview of tonight’s game.

Oakland (3-9 straight up, 5-7 against the spread) and San Diego (4-8 SU, 4-7 ATS) have posted less than stellar numbers this year. The Raiders are 1-4 ATS when listed as a road underdog, while the Chargers are 2-4 ATS as a home favorite.   Las Vegas sports books have listed San Diego as a 9-point home favorite over Oakland, with the total set at 43.

Oakland lost at home last week to Kansas City as a 3-point home favorite, 20-13 and the combined 33 points cashed the under for bettors for the fifth consecutive game.  The Raiders just can’t seem to score.  Oakland trailed Kansas City in first downs (17-14), rushing yards (145-139), passing yards (156-132), turnovers forced (2-1) and time of possession (35:11-24:49).  QB JaMarcus Russell was 10-28 for 132 yards, while Justin Fargas rushed for 82 yards and a TD on 18 carries.

San Diego hasn’t been much better.  They have now dropped 3 games in a row SU and consecutive outings ATS after losing to Atlanta at home last weekend, 22-16.  The Chargers are now 1-5 SU and ATS their last six games. The combined 38 points cashed the Under for bettors once again helping the Under improve to 7-1 in their last eight outings.

The Chargers have dominated Oakland the past few seasons, going 9-0 SU and 8-1 ATS.

So who covers the spread in today’s game?  This game is way too close to call.  But why not let FiveStarPick.com help you make money on other games in the NFL today?  Aren’t you tired of getting cold called by services that tell you about their 750,000 star play that’s a guaranteed winner. Here is a bit of advice…NOTHING is guaranteed when you are betting on sports.  These so called “handicappers” call 500 people on a Saturday morning and give them all a free play; 250 people will get the Chargers -9 and 250 will get the Raiders +9.  After the game ends, they call back the 250 people who won and pitch them on charging thousands of dollars to their credit cards for more guaranteed winners.   We are not your typical sports handicapping service.  We care about our members and we live and die on every play. Why?  Because we are moving thousands of dollars of our own money on the same plays we give you. Gambling on sports is how we make our living.  Do we win every play?  Absolutely not and we will never pretend to.  Our plays are always posted for all to see, including our losing streaks. But by the end of the year we always seem to have a few hundred thousand dollars of the sportsbook’s money in our casino account.  Let us try and do the same for you.  Join our family of winners today and start your winning streak tonight.

NFL Monday Night Football Picks – Jaguars @ Texans – Who Covers The Spread

Monday, December 1st, 2008

FiveStarPick.com has been like the US stock market recently with some major ups and downs.  We will win 7 in a row, then lose 5.  Yesterday, was like kissing your sister as our member plays went a dismal 2-2-1 on the day.  Our dime bettors are still up $97,000 for the year, however, and our annual committment to them has always been at least 6 figures, so look for some solid wins as we get into bowl season.  Or focus for this edition is tonight’s Monday Night Football matchup between the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Houston Texans.  Las Vegas sportsbooks have listed Texans as 3-point home favorites with the total set at 48.

The Jaguars (4-7 SU, 3-8 ATS) have not looked good this year.  They have lost 4 of their last 5, are 2-6 ATS in their last 8.  To add insult to serious injury, they are a dismal 0-6 ATS in six home games. The Jags won 11 games last year, but this year is one which Jacksonville would like to forget.  Jaguar QB David Garrard got blown out by Minnesota last week despite throwing for 317-yards and a score.  It was the two interceptions and four sacks that day that prevented the Jags from ever seriously contending in the game.

The Texans (4-7 SU, 4-6-1 ATS) are coming off a Week 12 win beating the Browns 16-6 on the road. Houston was a 3-point dog and the Under cashed easily as the total was set at 50 points.  Since being named the starting QB in Week 8, Sage Rosenfels has thrown 8 interceptions, but his 81.4 QB rating is a surprise as he has completed 70 percent of his passes.  The Over has been the play this year when wagering on the Texans.  The big reason is that the Texans are allowing 26.6 PPG this season…25.4 PPG at home.  In addition, they score and average 26.4 PPG. Another Houston problem is that they hold a -10 turnover ratio  (27th worst) and the Texans two QBs have combined to throw 17 interceptions this season.

NFL Pick Of The Day – Falcons @ Chargers – Who Covers The Spread

Sunday, November 30th, 2008

Las Vegas sportsbooks opened San Diego (4-7 straight up, 4-6-1 against the spread) as a 4-point favorite with the total set at 48. As of early this morning, the Chargers were 4.5 at most books with the total adjusted to 49.

Atlanta (7-4 straight up, 7-4 against the spread) is off one of its best performances of the season, crushing Carolina 45-28 to stay in the NFC South race. The Falcons took the cash as 1-point home favorites, while the 73 combined points went way over the 41-point total. Michael Turner ran for 117 yards and 4-TDs.  Atlanta rookie wide receiver Harry Douglas scored the first two TDs of his career against the Panthers.  Douglas also had four receptions for 92 yards.

Michael Turner has escaped the shadow of LaDainian Tomlinson after signing with the Falcons as a free agent in the off-season. The former Charger has rushed for 1,088 yards and 13 touchdowns, averaging 4.3 yards per carry. As for Tomlinson, his production is down this year.  LT has 770 rushing yards and five TDs, averaging just 3.8 YPC.

San Diego has lost back-to-back games and four of its last five. Nevertheless, the Chargers still have plenty of hope as they trail the AFC West-leading Broncos by just two games. They will meet in San Diego in the regular-season finale for both squads.

Atlanta quarterback Matt Ryan appears to be on his way to earning Rookie of the Year honors. The Boston College product has demonstrated steady improvement on a weekly basis, prompting some to suggest he might be the best rookie QB in NFL history. Ryan has an 11/6 touchdown-interception ratio for the season, but he has only been picked off once in the last four games. He has 220 passing yards or more in each of the last six games.  San Diego QB Philip Rivers has completed 65.8 percent of his passes for 2,801 yards with a 23/10 TD-INT ratio.
