NBA Playoff Picks Game 6 – Lakers @ Nuggets – Covering The Spread

Thursday, May 28th, 2009

Well…our members lost last night taking the Magic +8, but the Cavs played tough in the final 3 minutes and covered the spread by 2.  Notwithstanding the foregoing, the pros at FiveStarPick.com are still a blistering 11-3 against the spread in their last 14 member plays.  Tonight we focus on Game 6 of the Western Conference Finals as the Lakers travel to Denver to take on the Nuggets.  Las Vegas sportsbooks list the Nuggets as 5-point favorites with the total coming in around 209.

Los Angeles comes into Game 6 holding a 3-2 advantage over the Nuggets. The Lakers haven’t lost a best-of-seven series that was tied at 2-2 after winning a Game 5 since the 1969 NBA Finals against Boston.  The Lakers (76-23 straight up, 51-48 against the spread) have the second-most NBA championships (14), and lead the NBA in Finals appearances (29). The Lakers advanced to the NBA Finals last season before ultimately falling to the Boston Celtics.

Denver, the second seed in the West, has never advanced to the NBA Finals since joining the league in 1976, but Denver’s fortunes changed when veteran point guard Chauncey Billups was added to their line-up.  The Nuggets (64-33 SU, 58-38 against the spread) made franchise history recording back-to-back 50-win seasons.

The Lakers took Game 5 as a six-point home favorite, 103-94…a FiveStarPick.com against the spread win.  The combined 197 points helped the ‘under’ improve to 4-1 in this series.  The game was tied after each of the first three quarters before Los Angeles went on a 21-3 run in the 4th quarter.  The Lakers were outrebounded by Denver, 43-42, but shot a solid 49 percent (37-of-76) from the field in the victory.  Kobe Bryant paced the offense with 22 points and eight assists, while power forward Lamar Odom had a phenomenal game adding 19 points and grabbing 14 rebounds.

Now let’s talk trends…Los Angeles is 32-16 SU and 26-22 against the spread on the road this year. The Lakers have been winning their road games this season by an average score of 104-100.  Denver maintains a 40-9 SU and 31-17 against the spread record at home.  The Nuggets have been winning their games at Pepsi Center this season by an average score of 108-100.

NBA Playoff Picks Game 5 – Nuggets @ Lakers – Covering The Spread

Wednesday, May 27th, 2009

FiveStarPick.com gave its members another against the spread winner last night with the Orlando Magic +2 for the game.  Tonight will be no different as we handicap Game 5 of the Western Conference Finals between the Denver Nuggets and the Los Angeles Lakers.  Las Vegas sportsbooks list the Lakers as 6-point home favorites with the total coming in around 210.

The Nuggets evened the series Monday night by beating the Lakers, 120-101, as a 4-point home favorite. Seven players were in double figures for the Nuggets.  Carmelo Anthony wasn’t at the top of his game because of a sprained ankle and a flu bug, but still managed 15 points and five assists.  The “Bigs” for the Nuggets stole the show.  Nene had 14 points, 13 rebounds and six assists, while Kenyon Martin finished with 13 points, 15 boards, two blocked shots and zero turnovers. Chris “The Bird Man” Andersen added six points, 14 rebounds and a pair of blocked shots.

The Lakers still rely heavily on Kobe Bryant who scored a game-high 34 points in the loss.  Bryant was 10-for-26 from the floor, had seven rebounds, five assists and one turnover. Pau Gasol finished with 21 points, 10 rebounds, four assists and three blocked shots. Andrew Bynum had 14 points and five boards in 23 minutes of playing time.

The Nuggets rested for a week after crushing Dallas in five games in the conference semi-finals. The Lakers, meanwhile, were pushed to seven games before escaping against Houston, and the fatigue appears to be showing.  The Lakers need a dose of energy and effort tonight at Staples Center if they want to avoid going down 3-2 in this series.

The NBA fined Lakers coach Phil Jackson and the team $25,000 on Tuesday for his post-game comments on the officiating in Game 4.  The fines were announced after the Lakers addressed the media, but Jackson was asked whether the Nuggets have shifted their play from physical to dirty.

NBA Playoff Picks Game 4 – Lakers @ Nuggets – Covering The Spread

Monday, May 25th, 2009

FiveStarPick.com hit another against the spread winner last night as the Magic covered the first half line by a point.  Don’t miss out on tonight’s against the spread winner as we give our members the ‘total’ in Game 4 of the Western Conference Finals between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Denver Nuggets.  Las Vegas sportsbooks list the Nuggets as 4-point favorites with the total coming in at 208.

The Lakers took Game 3 after Kobe Bryant drilled a clutch 3-pointer from the corner late in the game.  Kobe finished with 41 points, including 13 in the fourth quarter.  The Lakers covered as 3 ½-point underdogs.  The Nuggets looked like they were going to pull away in the second-half but were outscored 32-18 by the Lakers in the fourth quarter.   Ariza added 16 points including some big 3-pointers down the stretch and Pau Gasol was also in double digits with 20 points and 11 boards.

While Bryant did his thing for the Lakers, the Nuggets’ superstars Carmelo Anthony and Chauncey Billups failed to bring it in Game 3.  They combined for 9-of-28 (32%) shooting from the field and 3-of-14 (21%) from beyond the arc.  Anthony finished with 21 points but only 3 came in the second half, all from the free throw line.  Billups added 18 and seven assists.

With the win last Saturday, Los Angeles improved its record as a road underdog to 8-2 against the spread in the playoffs.  Also, the Lakers have now captured seven straight road playoff wins in Denver.   The loss for Denver snapped a 16-game home winning streak for the club.  In the playoffs, Denver was 6-0 both SU and against the spread in the New Orleans and Dallas series.  The Nuggets have yet to suffer back-to-back losses at home this year.

The under is 9-1 in the last 10 meetings between these clubs, including a 3-0 in this series. The Lakers have seen the under go 11-5 this postseason, which includes seven straight unders.

NBA Western Conference Finals Game 3 – Lakers @ Nuggets – Cover The Spread

Saturday, May 23rd, 2009

FiveStarPick.com has won 7 of our last 8 member plays against the spread and look to extend the streak tonight as we give our members the against the spread winner of tonight’s Game 3 matchup between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Denver Nuggets.  Las Vegas sportsbooks list the Nuggets as 3-point favorites with the total coming in at 211.

After choking in Game 1, the Nuggets bounced back to win Game 2 in Los Angeles, 106-103. The Nuggets tied the series at 1 game a piece by winning outright as 5.5-point dogs.  Carmelo Anthony is rocking the Lakers this series scoring 34 points and grabbing 9 rebounds in Game 2.  Chauncey Billups added 27 points and four assists with only one turnover, while Kenyon Martin finished with 17 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the floor.

The Lakers jumped out to a double-digit lead in the first half, only to allow the Nuggets to rally and trim their deficit to just one at halftime. The Lakers were up 7 by the middle of the third quarter, but that was the largest lead they could muster before the Nuggets made a run.  Kobe Bryant tied the game in the 4th, 101-101, when he buried a fadeaway jumper with 49 seconds remaining. On the next possession, Nene made a nice pass under the basket to Kenyon Martin whose bucket put the Nuggets back in front at the 32-second mark.

A few moments later, Pau Gasol hit a pair of freethrows to make it 105-103, but with four ticks left, Billups made just one of two at the line to give the Lakers a chance to tie.  Derek Fisher had one last chance for the win with a 3-pointer at the buzzer, but it was no good.

Now let’s talk trends…Denver is 39-8 SU and a 29-17-1 against the spread at the Pepsi Center. In fact, they are now 11-0-1 against the spread in the postseason.  In six home games during the playoffs, the Nuggets are 6-0 both SU and against the spread, winning each by 12 points or more.

The Lakers are 31-15 SU and 25-21 against the spread on the road this year. During the playoffs, the Lakers are 2-3 both SU and against the spread in five road games against Utah (twice, 1-1 both SU and against the spread) and Houston (1-2 both SU and against the spread).  L.A. has only been an underdog 7 times all season long. The Lakers have thrived as a dog, going 5-2 SU and 6-1 against the spread. Denver has been a single-digit home favorite 28 times, posting an 18-9-1 against the spread record.

So what does all this mean?  It is not your job to analyze these stats and trends, it’s ours.  This is our life and our living.  Let FiveStarPick.com take away the guesswork in the NBA Conference Finals and provide you with winning NBA Conference Finals Picks that beat the spread and get results.  We are consistently providing over 3000 members with NBA Picks that cover the spread and get results.  If you’re skeptical, monitor our plays from our homepage and see if our talent for picking winners exceeds your expectations.  Or join for two days…it’s only $19.99.  Join our family today and start winning tonight.

NBA Playoff Picks Game 5 – Mavericks @ Nuggets – Cover The Spread

Wednesday, May 13th, 2009

FiveStarPick.com hit our 13th win out of our last 15 picks against the spread last night as the Boston Celtics came back from 15 down to defeat the Orlando Magic in a very nice backdoor cover.  Today we turn our sights to Game 5 of the Western Conference semi-finals between the Dallas Mavericks and the Denver Nuggets.  Las Vegas sports books list the Nuggets as 9-point home favorites with a total of 213.

Denver has closed 15 straight victories at home, with their last loss coming on March 9th against Houston, 97-95.  What’s more, 14 of their last 15 wins have come by double digit margins.  The average point-spread over this stretch was Denver -10.5 and when the number dipped below 10, the Nuggets have gone 5-1 Against The Spread, including a perfect 5-0 against the spread in the postseason.

Denver definately stole Game 3 with the no-call on Carmelo Anthony, but Dallas really played like crap on Monday and shouldn’t have kept it that close.  The Mavericks trailed by 10 points at halftime and Dirk Nowitzki (44 points and 13 rebounds) went to work.  Nowitzki has been the best player on the court this entire series with the exception of Denver’s Carmelo Anthony.  Mellow has averaged 30 PPG, 7.3 boards and 3.5 assists, all three above his season averages.

So what does all this mean?  It is not your job to analyze these stats and trends, it’s ours.  This is our life and our living.  Let FiveStarPick.com take away the guesswork this NBA Playoffs and provide you with winning NBA Playoff Picks that beat the spread and get results.  We are consistently providing over 3000 members with NBA Picks that cover the spread and get results.  If you’re skeptical, monitor our plays from our homepage and see if our talent for picking winners exceeds your expectations.  Join our family today and start winning tonight.
