Jets @ Patriots – AFC Divisional Playoff Picks Against The Spread

Sunday, January 16th, 2011

The pros at FiveStarPick.com have been crunching stats, trends, key matchups and injury reports to give our members today’s winners in the AFC Divisional Playoffs.  The New England Patriots are favored by 9-points over the New York Jets with a total of 44.5.  This line is DEAD WRONG!

The smack has been thick this week leading up to the third round between these two teams. Actually, most of the trash talk has come from the Jets’ side, as New York tries for its fourth road playoff win in five tries after last Saturday’s last-second victory over the Colts.

Nick Folk’s 32-yard field goal as time expired gave the Jets a 17-16 victory over the Colts, avenging last season’s AFC Championship loss. LaDainian Tomlinson rushed for two touchdowns, while Mark Sanchez had limited mistakes to give the Jets another try at the Patriots.

New England has been sitting pretty over the last two months with eight consecutive wins; and their offense has delivered at least 31 points in each of the last eight victories, while knocking off the Steelers, Colts, Packers, Bears, and Jets during that stretch.

The Patriots’ 45-3 December smack down of the Jets on Monday night in Foxboro proved once again the Patriots won’t let up if given the opportunity. Especially agains a Rex Ryan team.  New England jumped out to a quick 17-0 first quarter lead, then Tom Brady went to work picking apart the Jets’ secondary with four touchdown passes. The Patriots’ defense confused Sanchez all night, while intercepting him three times to easily cover as four-point home favorites.

The Patriots are 9-1 on the ‘over’ the last 10 games, while allowing four of their last five opponents to seven points or less. For a team that finished the regular season at 14-2, New England was listed as a nine-point favorite only three times, including twice against the hapless Bills. The only other occurrence as a long favorite came in Week 15 when the Packers played without Aaron Rodgers and the Pats escaped with a 31-27 victory as 14-point favorite.

The low-scoring Wild Card win over the Colts was the first ‘under’ on the road for the Jets this season in nine tries. New York is a profitable 7-5 Against The Spread as a road underdog, but two of those losses have come in blowout fashion in Foxboro. Since a five-game Against The Spread winning streak through September and October, the Jets are just 5-6 Against The Spread, while going 1-4 Against The Spread off a cover the last two months.

The total is set between 44 and 44 ½, with temperatures hovering in the high 20’s and low 30’s around gametime. Things get underway at 4:30 PM EST at Gillette Stadium and will be televised nationally on CBS.

Patriots @ Saints – Monday Night Football Picks Against The Spread

Monday, November 30th, 2009

The pros at FiveStarPick.com, like many around the country, are really looking forward to this Monday Night matchup between two of the NFL’s top talents.  The undefeated New Orleans Saints are entering their toughest test of the season against a very skilled and crafty Patriots team.  Las Vegas sportsbooks list the Saints as 1.5 point home favorites with a total of 57.

The Saints have been lighting up defenses this year and have achieved their best start in franchise history at 10-0. They average 420.5 yards/game and are scoring 36.9 ppg. For our purposes, the Saints have been a double-digit favorite in each of their last four games, covering the spread in only one of the contests, a 31-7 blowout of the Bucs as 10-point road favorties.

As a single-digit favorite, the Saints are a perfect 5-0 against the spread and three of those victories came on the road in Philadelphia, Buffalo, and Miami. Very impressive.

When you think about the Saints, you automatically think Drew Brees and his 22 touchdown passes, but New Orleans really does have offensive balance. Pierre Thomas, Reggie Bush and Mike Bell have combined for 14 rushing touchdowns this year and their team is averaging 154.3 yards/game on the ground.

The Patriots have seven victories and six were in front of the home crowd, so the road hasn’t been that kind to this Patriots team. The Pats are 1-2-1 against the spread this year on the road, and thier lone cover came against the Bucs in London, 35-7.  Their last two losses on the road were kind of embarrassing for the Patriots coaching staff.  In Week 5 the Pats had a 17-7 halftime lead in Denver, then failed to score in the second half and lost 20-17 in overtime. And of course we all remember Week 10 at Indy…not only did the Pats have Fourth and Two Gate, but the Patriots turned the ball over twice in the end zone.  That game should have been a blowout, instead Peyton Manning led the Colts down for the go-ahead touchdown to keep the Colts unbeaten in a 35-34 winner.  Our members still managed the cover as the Pats were getting 2-points.

Amazingly, the Patriots have won 17 straight “regular season” games against the NFC dating back to 2005.  It was Carolina in Week 2 that managed their last regular season upset.

So who covers the spread in tonight’s Monday Night Football matchup?  It’s very easy to find out.  Try FiveStarPick.com tonight for just ($19.99) and see if our talent for picking college and pro football winners exceeds your expectations.  We are the only sports handicapping service in the business who documents wins and losses and displays them on our homepage for all to witness.  It’s because we have nothing to hide…we just win games against the spread.  Join our family today and start your winning streak tonight.

Dolphins @ Patriots – Winning NFL Picks Against The Spread

Friday, November 6th, 2009

The pros at FiveStarPick.com are looking forward to a solid day for our membership today in the NFL as we give our members the ’spread’ and ‘total’ winner in today’s AFC rivalry game between the Dolphins and Patriots.  Las Vegas sportsbooks list the Patriots as 11-point home favorites with a total of 46.  THIS LINE IS DEAD WRONG!

Last week, Miami’s special teams got the job done against the Jets as Ted Ginn, Jr. ran two kickoffs back for touchdowns in a 30-25 victory.  The Dolphins produced just over 100 yards of offense against the Jets, but got the ‘W’ and improved to 3-4 on the season.  If Miami can play their game, they could beat New England for the second time in two years at Gillette Stadium.  Their last trip to Foxboro resulted in a “Wildcat” offense 38-13 blowout.  The Patriots dusted the worthless Bucs in jolly ole England two weeks ago and are coming off a bye.

We have analyzed a lot of trends this week and here is what we know…New England has not been profitable in this spot, going 1-8 against the spread as a double-digit home favorite since 2007.  In addition, the Pats are 6-8 against the spread in their last 14 coming off a double digit cover.

The Dolphins are a perfect 5-0 ATS under Sparano on the road off a SU win, while going 6-1 against the spread in their last seven as a double-digit road underdog. Miami is 5-1-1 against the spread in their last seven on the road against division opponents, including a pair of covers in their previous two trips to Foxboro.

So who covers the spread in Sunday’s game?  It’s very easy to find out.  Try FiveStarPick.com tonight for only ($19.99) and get all of our Sunday NFL winners as well as tomorrow night’s Monday Night Football play.  See if our talent for picking college and pro football winners exceeds your expectations.  We are the only sports handicapping service in the business who documents wins and losses and displays them on our homepage for all to see.  It’s because we have nothing to hide…we just win games against the spread.  Join our family today and start your winning streak tonight.

NFL Pick Of The Day – Ravens @ Patriots – Who Covers The Spread

Sunday, October 4th, 2009

WOW! What a heater we are on.  Yesterday a 3-0 College Football Saturday as we gave our members USC-4, Miami +7 and Oregon -34. So we are now 22-4 against the spread in our last 26. Today we are giving our members two (2) plays in the NFL.  The focus of this preview is the play on our 1:00pm game between the Baltimore Ravens and the New England Patriots.  Las Vegas sportsbooks list the Patriots as 1.5-point home favorites with a total of 45.

This is a weird line, isn’t it?  The boys at the Las Vegas Hilton tried to come out with the right line by opening at NE -3, but the betting public have jumped on the Ravens and chased the line down to NE -1.  Are the Ravens the newest “Elite” of the NFL?  Maybe, but who have they played this year?  They opened the season by beating KC at home easily, 38-24, laying 13.  Then they came out on top of a hard fought road battle in San Diego 31-26.  Most recently they crushed the poor Cleveland Browns 34-3 as a 14-point road favorite.   Now they head into Foxborough to face a team whose quarterback is getting sharper and healthier every week.   It will be interesting to see how they handle the rest of their schedule.  They only have 3 “soft” spots left: Cleveland, Detroit & Oakland.

It is interesting to note that the Ravens haven’t lost a game this season including a pre-season sweep.  As a matter of fact they haven’t lost since Pittsburgh knocked them out of the playoffs in the AFC championship game; that’s 7 in a row.  Also note that the Ravens gave up 26 & 24 to the Chargers and Chiefs.  So that begs the question of which Baltimore defense will show up today; and can Joe Flacco and his offense continue to score at the rate of 34 ppg? I guess we will find out today at 1pm on CBS.

So who covers the spread in today’s matchup?  It’s very easy to find out.  Try FiveStarPick.com tonight for just ($19.99) and see if our talent for picking college and pro football winners exceeds your expectations.  We are the only sports handicapping service in the business who documents wins and losses and displays them on our homepage for all to witness.  It’s because we have nothing to hide…we just win games against the spread.  Join our family today and start your winning streak tonight.
