Red Sox @ Yankees – FiveStarPick.com Has The Play On The Total

Saturday, August 7th, 2010

Congratuations to all our members on an incredible 22-6-1 run in Major League Baseball in our last 29 membership plays.  The month of July and so far into the first week of August have proven very profitable indeed.  Today we are hot on the ‘Run Total’  (8.5 runs) in the Red Sox (62-47) – Yankees (67-40) game today at 4:10 pm edt on FOX.

The American League East has been the benchmark for solid play this season as three of the best clubs in baseball are housed in that division. The Red Sox, however, have their backs against the wall sitting six games behind first-place New York.

Boston is on a bit of a run winning seven of its last 10 games, but the the loss of Kevin Youkilis for the remainder of the season with a torn muscle in his right thumb, lost the BoSox’s best bat against the Yankees.  Youkilis was hitting .462 with a pair of homers and nine runs batted in against the Yanks before his injury.

John Lackey (10-6, 4.48) had a lousy outing against the Indians on Aug. 2 (6 ER in 5.1 IP), but Lackey has looked quite sharp in his past two starts away from Fenway, pitching 15.1 innings and giving up two earned runs for wins against the Angels and Mariners. The right-hander also shut down the Yanks’ offense in his last outing against them…of course, that was back on April 7.

New York hit a snag recently while Alex Rodriguez was on his quest for his 600th home run, losing its first three games of the month. Now that A-Rod has put that honor to rest, the Yankees can continue their dogfight with Tampa Bay for the AL East lead.

C.C. Sabathia (13-5, 3.19) will get the nod today for the Yankees. The lefty has lost his last two starts, but he only had five earned runs in 13.2 innings of work. The problem there was that he got one run scored for him by his offense. Luckily for Yankees fans, Sabathia has been automatic at home this season, going 7-0 with a 2.69 ERA in 10 starts.

As you know we are hot on the ‘run total’ this afternoon.  The ‘over’ has cashed in the last 7 outings between these two clubs.  Boston has lost its last four games as a road pup in AL East battles this year with the ‘over’ going 3-1.  New York has won eight of its last 12 games as a home favorite against divisional foes.

So does the total come in over or under 8.5 runs today? The pros at FiveStarPick.com have the winning play.  Stop the guesswork and join forces with the professionals.  It’s not luck, but science.

MLB Winning Baseball Picks – Orioles @ Red Sox – Covering The Spread

Sunday, July 26th, 2009

Another win for the good guys last night as the Dodgers squeaked out a win over the streaking Marlins to maintain the best record in the Bigs.  But regardless of our current win streak, we are only as good as our next win to our membership.  Today we will be giving our members the winner of the Boston Red Sox and Baltimore Orioles.  Las Vegas sportsbooks list the Red Sox as -170 Money Line Favorites with a total set at 10 runs.

The Sox seem to be coming back into form and now they’re hoping John Smoltz can get his old ass arm back into form as well.  The 42-year-old will try to lead Boston to a three-game home sweep of the Orioles today and it may help that the Orioles have lost their last 11 games at Fenway Park.

Boston’s five-game losing streak to close its road trip dropped the club 2.5 games behind the Yankees in the AL East, but the Red Sox (57-39) picked up a game Saturday with their second straight win over the last-place Orioles.  After a lackluster showing from their normally potent starting lineup, Boston’s bats finally showed some life in Saturday’s 7-2 victory.  David Ortiz hit a three-run home run and newbee Adam LaRoche pounded a two-run shot for his first ever hit with the team.  It was the first time the Red Sox had scored more than four runs since their 6-0 win over the Royals on July 12th.

Boston has won five straight at Fenway and got a strong performance from left-hander Jon Lester on Saturday.  Smoltz is 1-3, with a 6.31 ERA in his first five starts with his new club and has often struggled to prevent a big inning since coming off the disabled list June 25th of this year. In his last outing Monday at Texas he allowed one run through the first five innings, then gave up five runs in the sixth.

The Red Sox have won 15 of their last 17 against Baltimore, including the last 11 meetings at Fenway Park.  The Orioles (41-55) has also lost five straight games overall to fall to an AL-worst 15-34 on the road. They will turn to rookie David Hernandez (2-2, 3.55) to try to snap their losing streak.  Hernandez is coming off three straight quality starts.  He gave up one run and three hits in six innings Monday at Yankee Stadium and he retired 16 of the final 17 batters he faced in that game, resulting in a 2-1 Orioles loss.

MLB Baseball Picks – Athletics @ Red Sox – Covering The Spread

Wednesday, July 8th, 2009

The pros at FiveStarPick.com hit another Money Line winner last night as we gave our members the Yankees over the Twins.  Today we switch gears in the American League handicapping tonight’s matchup between the Oakland Athletics and the Boston Red Sox.  Las Vegas Sportsbooks list the Red Sox as -167 Money Line favorites with a total of 9.

Tim Wakefield will try to help the Boston Red Sox to a victory in the final game of this three-game series with the A’s.  Boston will try to earn back-to-back wins for the first time in nearly two weeks and maintain its slim AL East lead.

In his 17th MLB season and 15th with the Boston Red Sox, Wakefield (10-3, 4.30 ERA) finally is finally an All-Star.  His strong first half of the season has included 10 quality starts. One of those came on April 15, when he took a no-hitter into the eighth inning in Oakland, settling for a complete game in Boston’s 8-2 victory.  Josh Beckett tied him for the team lead in victories in Tuesday’s 5-2 victory, but tonight the knuckleballer will have a chance to become the AL’s first 11-game winner.

Even after a 7-6, 11-inning loss to Seattle on Friday, the Red Sox are still 12-4 when Wakefield pitches. The right-hander allowed five runs in eight innings against the Mariners, but he’s still 8-0 with a 3.34 ERA in his last 11 home starts dating back to September.
