TCU @ SMU – College Football Picks Against The Spread

Thursday, September 23rd, 2010

Congratulations to all our members on a blow-out win last night in college football as the Miami Hurricanes crushed the Pitt Panthers 31-3.  Tonight, the pros at FivStarPick.com have been crunching stats, trends, key matchups and injury reports to give our members another winner tonight in college football.  The Horned Frogs of TCU are favored by 17.5 points on the road over the SMU Mustangs with a total of 55 points. This line is DEAD WRONG!

SMU (2-1 SU, 2-1 Against The Spread) opened the season with a 35-27 loss at Texas Tech, but the Mustangs cashed a ticket as 13-point road dogs. Since that loss, SMU has won two straight games, including a 28-7 win over UAB in Week 2. SMU took the cash against the Blazers as an 11.5-point home favorite.  Running Back Zach Line ran for 122 yards and two touchdowns, while QB Kyle Padron threw for 145 yards, two TD’s and no interceptions.

In Week 3, SMU failed to cover the 24-point home spread against Washington State. Padron connected on 19-of-34 passes for 280 yards and four touchdowns without an interception, while Aldrick Robinson had four receptions for 111 yards and three TDs.

Texas Christian (3-0 straight up, 1-1 against the spread) opened the season at Cowboys Stadium, beating Oregon St. 30-21 as a 13.5-point favorite. The Horned Frogs gained 453 yards compared to the 255 yards gained by the Beavers. TCU quarterback Andy Dalton threw two picks, but he did rush for a pair of scores, while throwing a TD pass to Jeremy Kerley. Ed Wesley gained 134 yards on 17 carries with 1 touchdown.

For the season, Dalton has completed 74.6 percent of his throws for 624 yards with a 4/2 touchdown-to-interception ratio. He also has three rushing TDs.  Top wideout Kerley has 13 catches for 134 yards and three TDs including one on the ground.

Since throwing three interceptions in the season-opening loss at Texas Tech, SMU’s Padron has been sensational. In the last two games, he has six TD passes without a pick to improve his TD/INT ratio to 8/3 for the year.

In last year’s meeting, SMU led 7-0 in the second quarter before giving up 25 unanswered points. The Horned Frogs eventually came away with a 39-14 win that wasn’t enough to cash a ticket as 28-point home favorites.

TCU vs. Boise State – Fiesta Bowl Picks Against The Spread

Sunday, January 3rd, 2010

The 2010 Bowl Season continues on January 4th and the pros at FiveStarPick.com are working overtime to analyze the  Fiesta Bowl between the TCU Horned Frogs and the Boise State Broncos.  Las Vegas Sportsbooks list  TCU as 7.5-point favorites with a total of 55.

TCU (12-0 straight up, 8-3 against the spread) believed they would have a shot at the National Title game with a Texas loss, but they fell behind the Bearcats in the final BCS standings.

Boise State (13-0 SU, 8-4 Against The Spread) is looking to pick up its second BCS victory.  The Broncos averaged 42 ppg over their last seven wins this season and covered spreads as high as 30-points twice. The Broncos have an offensive line that has given up the fewest sacks in the nation (5) and their offensive unit leads the FBS in scoring (44.2 points per game). That kind of protection has allowed QB Kellen Moore to complete 65 percent of his passes for 3,325 yards, 39 touchdowns and only three interceptions.  Moore is tops in the nation in quarterback rating (167.4).

Boise State’s O Line doesn’t just prevent sacks, they also provide the blocking for the 20th most productive ground game in the nation (194.5 Rushing YPG). Their two stud running backs help as well.  Jeremy Avery has rushed for 1,131 yards and six scores, while Doug Martin has 723 yards and 14 touchdowns.

Last year these two teams met in the Poinsettia Bowl where TCU came away with a 17-16 win as a 3.5-point favorite. The Broncos were only able to muster 250 yards of total offense in that game, so Boise State will need to watch a lot of film and learn from last year’s mistakes to come away with a win in the Fiesta Bowl.

Texas Christian has one of the elite defenses in the country.  The Horned Frogs are 3rd in the country against the run (80.5 YPG) and 4th in the country defending the pass (152.8 YPG).  Their defensive line is averaging 2.7 sacks per game and TCU defensive end Jerry Hughes leads the nation with 11 ½ sacks.

TCU’s offense has playmakers too.  The Horned Frogs ranked 4th in the country in yards per game (469.1) this year. QB Andy Dalton was the Mountain West Conference’s Offensive Player of the Year completing 62 percent of his passes for 2,484 yards, 22 touchdowns and a passer rating of 159.6.

Dalton also has a good running game behind him.  The TCU rushing unit ranks 5th in the nation (256.5 YPG) on the ground behind 4 running backs.  Joseph Turner leads that crew with 732 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns.

Now let’s talk trends…The Broncos have been dogs only 7 times in the last 5 years going 2-4-1 Against The Spread in those meetings. TCU is 34-15 Against The Spread as a favorite under Gary Patterson. The Horned Frogs are 5-2 Against The Spread in the postseason since 2002. Boise State is 3-2 Against The Spread in its last five bowls appearances. TCU is 18-9 Against The Spread dating back to 1996 against the WAC, while Boise State is 4-0 Against The Spread in its 4 games as a dog against the Mountain West.

If you are wondering who will cover the spread in the Fiesta Bowl, try FiveStarPick.com and eliminate the guesswork. For only $19.99 you can test us out and see if our talent for picking college and pro football winners exceeds your expectations.  We are the only sports handicapping service in the business who documents wins and losses and displays them on our homepage for all to witness.  It’s because we have nothing to hide…we just win games against the spread.  Join our family today and start your winning streak tonight.

Poinsettia Bowl Picks – TCU vs. Boise State – Who Covers The Spread

Tuesday, December 23rd, 2008

FiveStarPick.com is looking forward to winning another bowl game tonight as we give our members the winner of the Poinsettia Bowl featuring the No. 9 Broncos of Boise State and No. 11 Horned Frogs of TCU at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego, California.  Las Vegas sports books list TCU as 2.5-point favorites with the total set at 46.

After winning the best College Football Bowl Game ever, the Mustangs can no longer fly under the radar.  The trick-play filled Fiesta Bowl victory over Oklahoma to cap off an undefeated season will go down in history as legend and replays will be on ESPN forever.  Unfortunately for the Broncos, Utah also went 12-0 during the year to garner the automatic bid for the “mid-major” conference to a BCS bowl this season.

Boise State currently averages 456.8 yards per game on offense this year, 13th in the nation overall.  The defenses they have faced, however, are another story.  These defenses average around 71st in the nation.  Regardless, Boise State’s talent is deep, especially in the backfield.  Ian Johnson led the offense with 738 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns.  Tandem RB Jeremy Avery gained 613 yards on the ground and reached the endzone 4 times.  Take into account the poise of Bronco QB Kellen Moore under center along with 9 receivers having with at least 10 catches in 2008 and you got yourself an offense.  Moore’s favorite target is Junior WR Jeremy Childs who caught 65 passes for 741 yards and 7 touchdowns this season.

The Horned Frogs of TCU have one of the nation’s best defenses.  TCU is second only to Southern California in scoring defense (10.9 points per game) and overall defense (215.1 YPG).  Texas Christian has only allowed 48.7 YPG on the ground and has an average of 7.8 tackles for a loss in each game.

But this team isn’t all defense, the offense is averaging 417.1 YPG.  The rushing tandem of Aaron Brown and Joseph Turner has helped Texas Christian gain 215.7 YPG on the ground this season.   In the air, QB Andy Dalton has completed 58.8 percent of his passes this year for 2,045 yards.  Dalton was able to keep his mistakes to a minimum as his TD-to-INT was only 11:4.   Dalton’s top receiver has been Jimmy Young, grabbing 54 passes for 926 yards and five scores.

So who covers the spread in tonight’s game?  FiveStarPick.com is here to help. Aren’t you tired of getting cold called by services that tell you about their 750,000 star play that’s a guaranteed winner. Here is a bit of advice…NOTHING is guaranteed when you are betting on sports.  These so called “handicappers” call 500 people a day and give them all a free play; 250 people will get the TCU -2.5 and 250 will get the Boise State +2.5.  After the game ends, they call back the 250 people who won and pitch them on charging thousands of dollars to their credit cards for more guaranteed winners.   We are not your typical sports handicapping service.  We care about our members and we live and die on every play. Why?  Because we are moving thousands of dollars of our own money on the same plays we give you. Gambling on sports is how we make our living.  Do we win every play?  Absolutely not and we will never pretend to.  Our plays are always posted for all to see, including our losing streaks. But by the end of the year we always seem to have a few hundred thousand dollars of the sportsbook’s money in our casino account.  Let us try and do the same for you.  Join our family of winners today and start your winning streak tonight.

College Football Pick Of The Day – TCU @ Utah – Who Covers The Spread

Thursday, November 6th, 2008

FiveStarPick.com has won 7 of its last 9 and looks to continue its hot-streak when we give our members the winner of tonight’s TCU/Utah clash.  Las Vegas sportsbooks have listed the Horned Frogs as 2-point favorites with the total set at 42.  It should be a nice night in Utah tonight with light winds and a gametime temperature of 40 degrees.  This game will not dissapoint the betting public and could give one of these teams a possible BCS birth.

The Utes (9-0 Straight Up, 4-4 Against The Spread) will look to continue its perfect record under QB Brian Johnson (1,480 yards, 66% competion percentage), but it must be said…the school hasn’t faced a team comparable to TCU.

TCU (9-1 SU, 7-2 ATS) enters this battle with the best scoring offense (36.6 PPG) and the best defense (10.8 PPGA) in the conference. The Horned Frogs defense has 34 sacks and a turnover margin of +15.  On offense, Sophomore QB Andy Dalton (1,473 yards) has a very solid group of receivers and has only thrown 2 INTs all year.

Now let’s talk trends…Utah has won two straight against TCU, including a 27-20 victory last year in Fort Worth.  The Under has cashed in 4 of the last 5 head-to-head meetings. Having said that, Utah has seen the Over go 7-1 this year.  Utah is 4-0 ATS in its last four games as a home dog.

So who covers the spread in today’s game?  Why not let FiveStarPick.com help you with the answer?  Aren’t you tired of getting cold called by services that tell you about their 750,000 star play that’s a guaranteed winner?  Here is a bit of advice…NOTHING is guaranteed when you are betting on sports!  These so called “handicappers” call 500 people on a Saturday morning and give them all a free play; 250 people will get Utah +2 and 250 will get TCU -2.  After the game ends, they call back the 250 people who won and pitch them on charging thousands of dollars to their credit cards for more guaranteed winners.   We are not your typical sports handicapping service.  We care about our members and we live and die on every play.
