Colts @ Jaguars – Thursday Night NFL Football Picks Against The Spread

Thursday, December 17th, 2009

It’s Thursday Night, the holidays are fast approaching and the pros at FiveStarPick.com will be in the war room today crunching stats, trends and injury reports for tonight’s game in Jacksonville.  The Jaguars will have a lot to play for tonight as Indianapolis (13-0 straight up, 9-3-1 against the spread) will comes to Alltel Stadium. Las Vegas sportsbooks list the Colts as 3-point road favorites with a total of 43 which has been adjusted drastically from the 6 ½-point opening line on Monday with a total of 46 ½.

The Indianapolis Colts stayed perfect this past week by beating Denver 28-16 as a 6 ½-point home favorite. The Colts were up 21-0, but gave up 16 unanswered points that put the Broncos in position for a backdoor cover.  But then Manning led his high powered offense on a 14-play, 80-yard drive capped off by a one-yard touchdown pass to Dallas Clark with 2:25 remaining.

Jacksonville (7-6 SU, 5-8 against the spread) at the moment is in the playoffs as they have the tiebreaker over the Jets, Dolphins and Ravens.  The Jags had won four of their last five games before losing to Miami this past Sunday, 14-10, as 2.5-point home favorites. Garrard was less than stellar completing only 11-of-26 through the air for 139 yards and no TDs.  Jones-Drew rushed the ball 18 times for 59 yards and one touchdown.

But will the Colts pull their starters tonight?  Jim Caldwell told the Associated Press, “We’re going to approach the 14th game exactly like we did one through 13. We’ve got a great rhythm in terms of our preparation and we’re going to go out and play it just like we have done the previous 13.”

Peyton Manning has completed 68.1 percent of his passes for 3,905 yards with a 29/14 touchdown-interception ratio this year and Reggie Wayne has caught 87 balls for 1,078 yards and 9 touchdowns. Dallas Clark has 82 catches for 902 yards and eight TDs.  But will they play tonight???  We are working on that answer as I type.

Now let’s talk trends… Jacksonville has won twice this season as a home dog beating Tennessee and Houston in both spots.  Having said that, the Jags are just 2-5 against the spread at home despite winning five of their seven games. Indy is 6-0 both SU and against the spread on the road this year.  In their last meeting, the Colts beat the Jags 14-12, but the Jags covered the spread as 6.5-point road dogs. The ‘under’ has cashed in four consecutive Jacksonville games.  The ‘under’ is 7-6 overall for the Colts, 3-3 on the road.

Steelers @ Browns – Thursday Night NFL Football Picks Against The Spread

Thursday, December 10th, 2009

The pros at FiveStarPick.com have been working overtime to disect and break-down this bust of a game tonight between the Pittsburgh Steelers (6-6 SU, 4-8 against the spread) and the Cleveland Browns (1-11 SU, 6-6 against the spread.)  Las Vegas sportsbooks list the Steelers as 10-point road favorites with a total of 33.

Cleveland has been the laughing stock of the NFL this season, but for bettors they’ve cashed in their last three games including last week’s 30-23 loss to San Diego as a 13.5-point home dog. The Chargers were up 30-14 on a 22-yard field goal by Nate Kaeding with 4:16 remaining, but the Browns got the backdoor cover after an 8-yard TD pass from Brady Quinn to Jerome Harrison with two minutes to play.  The Browns got the ball back and tacked on a field goal to make it a one-possession game, but they would get no closer.

Quinn has looked solid as of late utilizing his two rookie recievers, Brian Robiskie and Mohamed Massoquoi. Last week Quinn completed 25-of-45 passes for 271 yards and three touchdowns without an interception. As a matter of fact, over the last three weeks Quinn has seven TD passes and no interceptions. The aforementioned Robiskie had four receptions for 69 yards against the Bolts, while Massaquoi had five catches for 115 yards in a 38-37 loss at Detroit three weeks ago.

The Steelers, on the other hand, really looked like crap last week falling to Oakland 27-24 at home as 14.5 point favorites. Ben & Co. might be without WR Hines Ward, who is listed as “questionable” with a hamstring injury. Ward and Ben Roethlisberger have combined to win two Super Bowls, but their personal history together has been suspect. Ward recently questioned Roethlisberger’s toughness in a loss at Baltimore a few weeks ago when he was scratched due to lingering concussion symptoms.

Pittsburgh is one of four teams who are one game back of the Jags for the AFC’s last wild-card spot. They are in this pickle mostly because of their road struggles, compliling a 2-4 record both SU and against the spread when away from Heinz Field.

Tomlin’s team has been a nightmare as a double-digit ‘chalk’ in 2009, going 0-4 against the spread. A big reason is the abscense of Pro-Bowl Safety Troy Polamalu, who will miss his fourth straight game tonight. The defense has given up fourth-quarter leads in each of the last three losses.

In their last meeting, the Steelers took a 27-14 decision, but Cleveland backers took the money as a 14-point underdog.

The conditions will be a major factor tonight with the low temperature at 14 degrees with heavy wind and snow. Winds could be in the 25-35 mph range.

NFL Thursday Night Football Picks – Saints @ Bears – Who Covers The Spread

Thursday, December 11th, 2008

The 2008 College and Pro football season is nearing a close.  Don’t miss out on another FiveStarPick.com win streak in both the College Football Bowls and the NFL Playoffs.  Winning at sports gambling is not easy…you owe it to yourself to get an edge and join the over 2300 FiveStarPick.com members who are collecting this year from their bookies.  Ok, ok…enough with the sales pitch.  Read below for a preview of tonight’s matchup between the New Orleans Saints and the Chicago Bears.

Las Vegas sports books have listed Chicago as 3-point home favorites with the total set at 46.  New Orleans (7-6 straight up, 9-4 against the spread) has a wining record, but finds itself in the cellar of the NFC South with a 1-5 SU and 3-3 ATS road record. The Saints have to win two of their final three games to have any shot at making the postseason.  New Orleans outlasted NFC South rival Atlanta last weekend as a three-point home favorite, 29-25. The combined 54 points went over the 51-point closing total.  The Saints were trailing before outscoring the Falcons in the fourth quarter, 13-8.

Chicago (7-6 SU, 6-6 ATS) is one game out of the NFC North lead, and still has a realistic shot of winning the division. The Bears are 4-2 SU and 3-3 ATS at home and the over has gone 4-2 in those 6 games.  Chicago upended Jacksonville last weekend as a 6.5-point home favorite, 23-10. The combined 33 points cashed the under for bettors and never seriously threatened the 40-point closing total.

Chicago is 3-0 SU and 2-0-1 ATS in their three previous outings with New Orleans after prevailing last season as a home pick’em, 33-25.  The Bears and Saints met on this field during the 2006-07 postseason, with Chicago rolling in the NFC Championship Game as a three-point home favorite, 39-14. The combined 53 points in that matchup cashed the over 43 for bettors.
