Vikings @ Saints – NFC Championship Picks Against The Spread

Sunday, January 24th, 2010

The pros at FiveStarPick.com are looking forward to another winning day in the NFL postseason. Today we are hot on the NFC Championship game between the Minnesota Vikings and the New Orleans Saints.  Las Vegas sportsbooks list the Saints as 4-point home favorites with a total of 53.

Both teams looked impressive in blowout victories in the Divisional Playoff round. New Orleans beat Arizona, 45-14, and Minnesota crushed Dallas, 34-3.

Minnesota was listed as an underdog twice this season, going 1-1 against the spread. The Vikings lost to Pittsburgh as six-point ‘dogs, while winning at Lambeau Field over the Packers as 3-point ‘dogs.

New Orleans has seen some huge numbers this year. They are 4-7 Against The Spread laying at least a touchdown, but 5-0 Against The Spread as a favorite of six points or less.  Since 2008, the Saints are 10-1 Against The Spread as a favorite of less than six points. The one lone loss?  The Vikings on Monday Night last October.  Minnesota held off New Orleans, 30-27 as 3-point ‘dogs…And that was without Brett Farve.

This will be Favre’s fifth conference championship appearance in his career, going 2-2 with the Packers. Location didn’t matter, with Favre compiling a 1-1 record each at home and on the road in conference title games. Brees owns a 2-2 career playoff record, with three of those games coming at home.

The game kicks off at 6:30 PM EST and will be televised nationally on FOX.

NFL Monday Night Football Picks – Packers @ Vikings – Who Covers The Spread

Monday, October 5th, 2009

The pros at FiveStarPick.com had a MONSTER weekend going 5-0 against the spread in both college and pro football.  Tonight we look to expand on that record as we give our members the winner of tonight’s highly anticipated Monday Night Football matchup between the Green Bay Packers and the Minnesota Vikings.  Las Vegas sportsbooks opened the Vikings as 3-point favorites, but the public has chased this line up to 4.5.  Total players can expect a gametime number between 45-46.5.

I have a feeling…and I am just spitballing here…that the CheeseHeads will be disgusted to see their hero, Brett Favre, in Viking purple tonight at 8:35pm on ESPN.  But Favre gave them a reason to be nervous last week as he pulled off an improbable last-second win over San Francisco. With no timeouts left trailing 24-20, Favre put together a game-winning drive that was capped off with one of the best plays in NFL history.  Farve connected with Greg Lewis on a remarkable 32-yard touchdown with two seconds remaining to seal the win and yet another chapter in Brett Farve lore.  The Vikings won the game, but the 49ers took the cash as 7-point road dogs. Favre threw for a season-high 301 yards and two TDs, while RB Adrian Peterson rushed 19 times for 85 yards.

Green Bay (2-1 SU, 2-1 against the spread) bounced back from a home loss to the Bengals by beating St. Louis, 36-17, as a 6.5-point road favorite.  Aaron Rodgers threw for 269 yards, 2 TD passes and no interceptions.  Rodgers had 38 rushing yards, including a four-yard touchdown run. Ryan Grant had 99 rushing yards against the Rams.

Rodgers has two playmakers in Donald Driver and Greg Jennings. Driver had four receptions for 95 yards and one TD at St. Louis, bringing his season tally to 14 grabs for 233 yards and two TDs. Jennings has had eight catches for 209 yards on the season.

Farve has something that he has never had in his career, Adrian Peterson in the backfield.  Peterson is sporting an NFL-best 357 rushing yards and 4 touchdowns this year along with averaging 6.1 yards per carry.  In addition, the Vikings also have rookie playmaker Percy Harvin, who helped the Gators to a pair of national titles in his three seasons in Gainesville. Harvin has had a touchdown in all three of his games this year, finding the end zone last week on a 101-yard kick return.  He also had four receptions for 51 yards against the 49ers, including a pair of grabs on the game-winning drive.

NFL Pick Of The Day – Vikings @ Browns – Cover The Spread

Sunday, September 13th, 2009

FiveStarPick.com is coming off a blistering 3-0 start to the NFL season as we gave our over 3000 members two 1st half against the spread winners and a parlay winner in Thursday night’s opener.  Today we look to continue the trend as we give against the spread winners in two NFL matchups.  The focus of this preview is today’s 1:00pm game between the Minnesota Vikings and the Cleveland Browns.  Las Vegas sportsbooks list the Vikings as 3.5-point road favorites with a total of 40.  THIS LINE IS DEAD WRONG!!!

The Vikings went 10-6 last year to win the NFC North, but quickly bowed out of the playoffs with a Wild Card-round loss to Philadelphia.  With a potent running game led by Adrian Peterson and a solid defense, Minnesota went in search of an upgrade at quarterback this off-season.  First, they traded for Sage Rosenfels, but mid-way through the exhibition season the Vikes talked Favre into coming back, and he is fully expected to be the starter the rest of this year.

In 2006 the Browns went 4-12. Then, with QB Derek Anderson throwing the ball all over the field, Cleveland went 10-6 in ‘07 and nearly made the playoffs. But last year, playing with the expectation of a post-season appearance, Cleveland collapsed, won just four games, and parted ways with head coach Romeo Crennel. They then replaced him with another Belichick disciple, Eric Mangini, who went 23-25 in three years as head man with the Jets, and got canned after going 9-7 and missing the playoffs last year.  And although he tried to keep it a secret, Mangini has supposedly decided that former Golden Domer Brady Quinn will start at QB for the Browns Sunday.

Minnesota went just 6-10 against the spread last season, and 3-5 against the spread on the road.  The Browns went 7-9 against the spread last year and 3-1 against the spread as home dogs.

The Vikes went 3-1 both SU and against the spread during this just-completed exhibition season, beating the Colts, Chiefs and Texans, and losing to the Cowboys. Cleveland, meanwhile, just went 2-2 both SU and against the spread this preseason, beating the Lions and Titans and losing to the Packers and Bears.

So who covers the spread today?  It’s very easy to find out.  Try FiveStarPick.com for a month ($99.99) and see if our talent for picking college and pro football winners exceeds your expectations.  We are the only sports handicapping service in the business who documents wins and losses and displays them on our homepage for all to witness.  It’s because we have nothing to hide…we just win games against the spread.  Join our family today and start your winning streak tonight.
