College Football Pick Of The Day – Colorado @ West Virginia – Who Covers The Spread

Thursday, October 1st, 2009

Another College Football cash for the pros at FiveStarPick.com last night as we gave our members LA Tech -5.  We told you this line was DEAD WRONG as LA Tech crushed Hawaii 27-6, covering the spread by 16.  Tonight we are focusing our skills on the Big 12/Big East matchup of Colorado and West Virginia.  Las Vegas sportsbooks list the Mountaineers as 17-point home favorites with a total of 54.5.

Everyone thought that Colorado’s acquisition of Dan Hawkins in 2005 was genius.  After coaching the Broncos to a 53-11 record during his tenure, many thought the Buffaloes would soon be BCS contenders.  That hasn’t happened.

In Hawkins’ first three years in the Rockies, the Buffaloes have gone 13-24 and the 2009 season is looking somewhat suspect as well.  In their first two games of the season, Colorado allowed 77 points and 1,000 yards in losing to Colorado State and Toledo.  Needless to say, Hawkins’ back is up agains the wall.  The question is how will he react?

The Buffaloes finally got on track drumming Wyoming, 24-0, but Colorado is still last in the Big 12 in total offense (342.7 ypg), in total defense (410 ypg), in scoring defense (25.7 ppg), and in rushing defense (183 ypg).

In 2008, Colorado held on to beat West Virginia with a 25-yard overtime field goal.  In that game, the Buffaloes scored two quick touchdowns and then held on for a 17-14 overtime victory.  That victory was the last win for Colorado against a ranked opponent.  Not an ideal stat considering that West Virginia is 29-5 at home since the start of the 2004 season.

The Mountaineers have started off solid with wins over Liberty and East Carolina and then last week on the road at Auburn they took an early 14-0 lead. Unfortunately six turnovers, including a fumble and four interceptions by QB Jarrett Brown, proved too much to overcome and the Mountaineers lost a heartbreaker against an SEC team, 41-30.

With Rich Rodriguez freezing up in Michigan, West Virginia has retooled its offense under Stewart.  Now the West Virginia offense is more balanced and Brown is thriving with consecutive 300 yard+ games and a total 798 passing yards…the most ever for a West Virginia quarterback through the first three games of the season.  But don’t forget about RB Noel Devine.  He might be smaller than Avon Cobourne, Amos Zereoue and Slaton, but he is faster than any West Virginia tailback in the record book.

So who covers the spread in this matchup?  It’s very easy to find out.  Try FiveStarPick.com tonight for only ($19.99) and see if our talent for picking college and pro football winners exceeds your expectations.  We are the only sports handicapping service in the business who documents wins and losses and displays them on our homepage for all to see.  It’s because we have nothing to hide…we just win games against the spread.  Join our family today and start your winning streak tonight.

College Football Pick Of The Day – Auburn @ West Virginia – Who Covers The Spread

Thursday, October 23rd, 2008
FiveStarPick.com is hot on another additon of Thursday Night College Football and tonight we will see the Auburn Tigers and the West Virginia Mountaineers square off at Milan Puskar Stadium.  Las Vegas sportsbooks have West Virginia listed as 3-point home favorites with the total set at 38.5.
Auburn was upset 25-22 by Arkansas as a 17-point favorite in Week 7. The game’s 47 points took the Over for bettors.  Kodi Burns ran for 38 yards and a TD for Auburn, while throwing for only 119 yards in the loss.
West Virginia’s Noel Devine ran for 188 yards on 18 carries with a touchdown to lead West Virginia past Syracuse 17-6 in Week 7.  West Virginia failed to cover as a 25-point home favorite and the games’s 48-points took the Under for bettors.
Let’s talk trends…
Auburn has lost 2 straight games against SEC opponents and West Virginia has won their last 3.  Both teams have abismal records against the spread with Auburn: 4-3 SU, 1-6 ATS and West Virginia: 4-2 SU, 1-4 ATS.
Auburn is 6-4 in the month of October and 7-2 when playing on turf.  They are 9-1 when playing outside the conference.  West Virginia is 10-0 in the month of October and 9-1 when playing on turf.  They are 8-2 against non-conference opponents.  Auburn is 15-4 SU in its last 19 games on the road and West Virginia is 11-1 SU in its last 12 games at home.

College Football Pick Of The Day – West Virginia @ Colorado – Who Covers The Spread

Thursday, September 18th, 2008

FiveStarPick.com is hot on another Thursday night college football game.  Tonight’s ESPN action features a powerhouse on the road against a fiesty, scrappy, gnat of a football team.  West Virginia (1-1 SU, 0-1 ATS) will travel a few thousand miles on the ground and a mile in the air to play the Big 12’s Colorado (2-0 SU, 1-0 ATS.)

This is coach Dan Hawkins’ 3rd year in Boulder and things seem to be shaping up for the Buffaloes.  Hawkins arrived on the scene after doing an incredible job at Boise State where he took it to old Bob Stoops and Oklahoma in one of the best college football games ever played.

This year the Buffaloes are off to a perfect 2-0 start, but it hasn’t been easy getting there. In the Buffaloes last outing they faced Division 1-AA Eastern Washington.  They were down 21-7 at the half, but Hawkins and his son, starting QB Cody Hawkins, got the offense moving and the Buffaloes rallied to a 31-24 win. Colorado cannot afford a slow start this week against West Virginia and QB Heisman candidate Pat White.

Most handicappers assumed the Mountaineers would continue their winning ways after beating Oklahoma in last year’s Fiesta Bowl, but Coach Stewart has been trying to change his former boss’ game plan a bit going to more of a pro-style offense. That all seemed like a good idea after WVA crushed Villanova in week one and White threw 5 touchdown passes in a 48-21 route. Then East Carolina (a really good football team) kept the Mountaineers from scoring a touchdown the entire game.  East Carolina coasted to a 24-3 win and the Mountaineers went back to the drawing board.
